Comments about the ET logo contest

not to be an asshole.. coz i'm just being honest here.. but i might hurt some pplz feelings ..



nice logos.. i liked dougs too.. real nice.. only problem is.. i don't see one logo here.. that works with the site.. i would make something now myself too.. but i wo't be back home untill saturday.. and this puter don't got PS .. i think if i installed it into this one it would prolly puke it .. hehe.. and to be honest that old one that i made long ago don't fitt with the site at all any more.. i don't think the new one that's up there right now fitts eather.. but also i think the design of emutalk has lost grace :/.. showed the site to other webdesigners i know online and they asked what the hell.. lol.. they all said pretty much the same.. it's way to inconsequent.. lines here.. no lines there.. white here.. baby blue there.. it really needs some work but could look good..

imo.. this is just my opinion though.. and i mean.. MY opinion :p.. the emutalk board should have a new design instead of just a new logo.. a nice clean but emulation oriented look.. something that screems emulation and still is clean.. that's the only way to be able to make cool logos for it.. untill that happends the logos will have to be kept kinda dull or else they won't fitt with the site.. and even then they'll look abit dickless :/..

OI! Missed this one. I'm sure your l33t webdesign friends think it's pants, but if so, create a better one. Not that I can't take bad feedback but if it's so bad I think you should do some work on it. :colgate:

IMO, it looks almost the same as before, except for some gradients and new graphics.

the other thing is.. i don't think you know what my style is :p.. you only know the style the ppl i've made sites for want.. they allways tell me.. "something like the apollo site would be nice".. and i'm like.. "you sure?.. how bout something diferent.. etc etc etc".. but they want it.. so that's what they get.. wich is not the same ..

i'm not saying my friends who are webdesigners are the bomb or they know everything.. it's an opinion.. i allways ask their opinion.. i'm sure you ask others for opinions as well and i was sharing what they said..

if you don't agree with me on that:.. to have a let's say a cool cool logo.. let's say doug's logo number 1.. i liked it.. although way to flashy.. it's cool.. new for him.. lets say it was just a logo we all liked.. even though that might not be the case..

to use it?.. we would need a totally diferent design.. true?..

to have good logos.. wich MOST ppl would like.. (coz you can never satisfie everyone)..

you would need a pretty nice look on the site in the first place.. don't you agree?..

ok.. let's say there was a really nice design on the board.. and you guys put up a contest.. i think most ppl would be alot more motivated.. and you would get a result increase in everything.. amount of logos submitted.. quality.. diversity.. etc etc..

as it is now.. well.. for example like i was telling Redah online.. the logo that was there b4.. the one i made.. suckd ass.. with the changes that have been made..

you say it's very litle changes.. but for example.. it was the first thing i noticed real quick and told you bout last night on IRC remember Martin?.. the change is VERY easy to spot..

then the new logo.. when Redah showed up on IRC just now when i got on and posted bout the thread on Redahs logo that good old Quvack had started i think.. i went there.. and lookd around for the new logo.. i could'nt see it.. it was invisible to me.. untill.. i noticed it.. and i didn't need to reload or anything.. i just had not seen it.. coz it's to shy.. know what i mean?.. it don't call you out.. it's like the banner takes hold of the eyes and the logo becomes invisible.. that's not all the logos fault.. it's also the baby blue color.. least i think so.. might be wrong there.. but i think it's the combination.. also the www in the background is not real white is it?.. maybe it's this screen.. i'm on a laptop .. but i don't know.. maybe it's coz of the baby blue color and the gamma making it look abit less strong :/.. i know this is alot of negativity.. but i'm just being honest i hope you guys don't really think i'm just saying stuff to look superior coz i'm not.. i don't know if i could do better myself.. but this is what i see.. and i hope you guys don't get to offended or anything ..

i disagree with you rattrap about the site design, i think its functional and tasteful, the blue might be a bit boring on its own but it doesnt need to be amazingly decorative. the only thing i think makes this design any worse than the old one is the logo being on the right and the advert/menu being on the left, to me this makes the advert seem more important than the site

i didn't say we have to have a new website design.. or maybe i did but it wasn't what i was aiming at.. i was trying to explain.. why no logo will work with the site.. i bet alot of ppl liked dougs logos.. and all i said to those and the other logos was that i liked them alot too.. AND.. that they would'nt fitt the site.. at all.. so it's why i was saying that i don't think it's a good idea to have a contest with the current design.. coz you can't be very creative with it..

then about the design being decorative or not.. i'm not saying it needs to be eather.. it just needs an edge.. something that is more consistant.. something you can almost grab and say.. ok.. this is clean and sharp and works.. something that gives it a bigger individuality to other forums.. you catch my drift?.. i believe it could be donne with simple lines.. and maybe some more simple ASCII art that i think Martin has been kind of implementing ..

i agree with you on the logo being in the wrong side.. this is something that the teachers at design courses blabb for hours about.. there are ppl that live on showing website and newspapers designers how and where to place things..

the problem is.. the eyes/head/neck work in a sertain way.. and you read.. from left to right.. unless your chinese or whatever :p.. this is a very important thing they teach you at design schools.. hard to explain what i mean.. it's like sometimes when you read.. you don't read the entire words.. you just read the beginning and move on.. when you watch a website.. it's automatic.. you start at top left.. and if you find irrelevant info.. you just move down.. and don't continue looking at the right top of the site.. wich is why having a logo up there is a bad plan..

also if your reading.. you'll notice that you don't really likes to move your head from side to side.. wich is why paper articles are written in columns.. coz using your eyes to move thru the text from left to right and your neck to tilt your head down is more natural.. i mean.. imagine if the artickles on papers where from left to right in one entire page (i've seen that happen).. it's uncomfortable.. at least if it's a longer article..

i feel your thinking this has nothing to do with this.. but it does.. we simply look alot more into the left top side of a website once we browse it.. then the eyes focus on what it's looking for.. but also in parts of a site where there's something that looks more special.. it's automaticall.. it's why you rarelly see menus on the right side of a website..

so to pull the "having the logo on the right side"-thing off.. it needs to be more alive.. or else it's just disapiaring..
