errr....help please

I'm using NesterDC_7.1pb, at some points games work just fine but here is the problem...sometimes the only button that works is Y; AKA select, nothing else will work, its not the rom, I've tested it, I played Mario 3 and it worked fine, went to play Dr. Mario it didn't work, tried playing Mario 3 again and it didn't work....what the heck could possibly be causing this? is there a way I can configure the controls myself? Or anyone got any idea what could be wrong?

Mabye the rom isnt fully compatible. Try a few more games and if it doesnt happen on them you will know its just that indvidual game.
