What's new
  • Most issues reported these days stem from users not enabling their emulators to use the required amount of RAM.
We also tend not to use the search feature but post our issues within the texture pack release page.
Failure to load a texture pack should not be posted in the release thread unless you have already patched the emulator.

If you don't have the resources to use Large/HD texture packs please do not attempt to do so.
Users should have a minimum amount of System RAM not less then 4GB's.
If you have less then 4GB's of RAM do not post about how your emulator crashes,
RAM is dirt cheap so invest some money into your PC.

I would like to say thanks to squall_leonhart

Original Texture Problem

The first one is a Hero's Shield texture that I made in Illustrator a few days ago. This texture works as a Hylian Shield texture in Ocarina of Time (1.1).

The second one is still a Hero's Shield texture, but I made this one last night. It's an updated version, and considerably more detailed. I want to use it, but the game refuses to load it.

I have it saved as a PNG-24 and I have it named correctly--in the Link directory, but not here. Everything is the same but the size, which leads me to my question: does size matter? Is the reason this more detailed version won't load because its size is too big?

Well I answered my own question. I went back and decreased the color depth to 256. It really didn't decrease the quality that much to be noticed. This decreased the file size to 12.2 KB, which is considerably smaller then the first Hero's Shield texture I made. The first one works, but the new one doesn't. Why? I don't understand.

Edit: Changed the second image because it was an outdated version. The new one has the most recent version.

Umm... what do you mean? If it's 32-bit, 24-bit, etc.? Well, I saved them both as 24-bit PNG. The first one worked. I saved the other one the same way, it didn't work.

Edit: I just tried loading the original Hero's Shield texture I made, and that one doesn't load anymore either. Neither does any hi-res shield I made or anyone else made.

They aren't loading because you're saving them in the wrong format. You need to be saving them as 24 bit PNG files + an alpha layer (32-bit). If you're working in fireworks or freehand, you can click a check box in the export preview window to add alpha. I'd asume it works the same way in the adobe apps, but I don't use them much so I can't say for sure.

I thought I did do that, went back and checked and they did have alpha channels. I went back into Illustrator and saved them again with new alpha channels. It didn't work.

It was a good guess, if you ignore that the default hi-res textures aren't working anymore either. Last time this happened, I had to go re-extract everything then the shield textures loaded again.

Maybe I have too many images in the Link folder?

Edit: Restoring the Link folder worked. I can use textures again. For now on, I'll keep the folder organized and only have in what I need.

Here's a screenshot of the shield. If anyone wants to use it, be my guest. The reason why I have so many hearts is because I was playing with the "Receive a Heart Container (C or A)" code.
