N64 need help with lost connections

Okay, i have a server set up and both of my computers can connect fine, its just that when i start a game either both or one of them loses the connection, i looked at the server log and it says it is because of a ping timeout, i have no idea what that is, im sure it isn't because of the type of connection i have because they both have little to no ping at all. what could be causing the lost connection?
