right next thing - right click anywhere on the desktop and click on properties, and then the settings tab.
Underneathe the picture of the monitor will be the name of the graphics card you have. what does it say?
It will be something like defult monitor on NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (which is what i have)

thats it right there. thats the problem. i dont know much about it, but i know its a slow card, and that it only has 8mb of memory - the reason why a lot of 3d object are all white instead of textured - the card doesnt have enough memory.
luckily, the card appears to be AGP, so it should be easy for you to upgrade it
