I am planning to release Dreamemu soon, but as a "Public Alpha". Regular releases of both the emulator and plugins should be occuring here soon, so make sure u check back in a few weeks or so.

I never actually played on a real Dreamcast, so I'm not familiar with the emu-scene of this console either. But I saw Soul Reaver and Dead or Alive and it looked very good. Wasn't the Dreamcast out of business?

About emulation64.com: you should change the icon of the last message into a dreamcast icon instead of putting a N64 icon there ;)

hehe, i doubt soul calibur is going to run, but i havnt tried it so i dont know :) id put my money on no though. Dreamcast rocks - one of the best consoles of all time

Does the display list support work for everything and not just that demo? If so can I ask what's stopping it from working on more than that?

Oh, Hickarus.. . It's only screenshots pack for me. :D

Why there's no public beta to run'n'see, like Fabien does with Satourne ?
Maybe Cyrus works for 3DRealms - "When it's done..." ? :D :D :D

He is not obliged to release!!! It is his decision! Yeah it is nice seeing what fabian is doing but it was also nice with the project64 1.5 surprise!!!

Grant64: Firstly I actually got namco museum to run first. Then Smash Pack. Then Snow Surfers. Then even reports from gfx renderer of Unreal Tournament working but being very fucked-up ;)
And of course Headhunter main 'press start' menu,
http://icarus.boob.co.uk/gallery/June02/headhunter.jpg
But its not solid emulation atm, so dont expect anything. Its still somewhat hit-and-miss with those kind of commercial games, and rendering needs to be improved much. (thats one reason immediaitely why a release is out of the question right now)

However there is no way dreamemu can run anything commercial, expect perhaps namco, without lrdcheese emulating g2 dma, which requires some reversing since the info isnt public yet :)

As for Icarus' state, well I've been figuring out a lot more about how sweet the dreamcast is and some of its very neat features/abilities, and thus am rewriting certain parts, but as for improved compatibility we'll just have to wait and see...
I'm very busy with uni also, so I have to juggle the two (well 3, +coding for dc) appropriately.

CyRUS

Sure. But if he will release it will be great.

Commercial games ? Why some people making noise here ? If even Icarus or Dreamemu will run Sonic Adventure, i'm
not so sure if anybody here have enough cpu horsepower to get more than 5 fps. Maybe me, but running dc emu on pc emu that runs on huge mainframe...
It's for masochists only... and i can't put mainframe in my pocket and bring it home :)

I need DC emu for testing some homebrew stuff before burning cds. :

CyRUS64
October 5th, 2002, 03:29
I was doing a bit of testing actually of a couple of games I have around today and the 'Now Loading' screen from Jet Grind radio displays, and puyo puyo, aqua gt, unreal tournament and a couple of others 'work' and should display with improved rendering ;)
Other than nba2k2, which has some extra protection on it it seemed, with a bit of work I can hopefully get some improved results out of these and other games. (I sort of know what is needed for them and they arent crashing out unusually requiring tiring bughunts)

Is it possible that the emu coders will join power ? Boobcast (icarus) and Dreamemu ? I would like to see that ;) Could bring some interesting results.

I also have a silly question - coz i never wrote an emu before and i would like to know - that - once you guys have the specs of the chips of the console or arcade board - what do you do next ? And if u have all the specs for all the chips wouldnt the emu run all the games ?

jhonny
October 5th, 2002, 14:57
I was also wondering will we (the users) need to use the DC boot cd by Utopia to play DC games on the emu ?

and Cyrus64 - can you please post some new screens and update your site !!! Im a huge fan !!! And i would like to see some new screens - even if little progress has been made ;)

B T W - KEEP IT UP DUDES !!! U R THE GUYS WHO SHOULD BE WORKING FOR BIG ASS COMPANIES AND EARNING LOTS OF $$$$ - U SMART GUYS !!! I wish i had the brains to write an emulator ;) BTW - is there a guide for that ? LOL - i would love to write my own ;)

Stezo2k
October 5th, 2002, 15:34
nope we wouldnt need the boot cd and only the copied games would work on it, due to the pc not being able to read GD-roms

Stez

Grant64
October 5th, 2002, 16:14
Ripped GD roms could be played as ISOs

Jhonny : I spoke to lordcheese and he said this is a project he is working on alone in his spare time! Besides I like to see 2 emu's progressing their different ways!

CyRUS64
October 5th, 2002, 17:31
jhonny: Firstly there is no way Icarus and Dreamemu would ever join. It wouldnt at all give interesting results either.

Secondly although a few games are certainly 'running' in a sense, the problem is that the rendering isnt very stable and the results can often look very messed up due to lack of omplementation for certain compression schemes. Anyhow, if i get a chance ill take a pic of the now loading screen from jet grind radio, and perhaps even a pic of how messed up unreal tournament is looking!

Also, one of the methods for testing original gdroms in Icarus will be to hook up the dreamcast to your pc via broadband adaptor or lan adaptor, and with appropriate server software running on the dreamcast dynamically load data from the gdrom as is needed. This way, you have no need to spend a long time 'dumping' a gdrom, and it completely avoids legality issues of providing ppl with methods to create isos of games.

Slougi
October 5th, 2002, 17:33
Actually some Yamaha CD Drive could read GD-Roms, I read about that on some site. I woder if it's true....

Grant64
October 5th, 2002, 19:06
Is it possible to get a driver that allows you to put your DC GD drive in a PC in order to play games??? I have a spare DC and am willing to dismantle it for emulation purposes???

Slougi
October 5th, 2002, 22:52
Well, it might be possible to hack up a pci card that lets you connect the GD-Rom drive to it, or if the interface is similar to IDE/SCSI some interface between the two could be built. I doubt it's worth the effort, as it would take a hell of a lot of hacking. Basically: NO.
