User CP -> Edit Options -> Send you an email when you receive a Private Message? Set to "No"

is there anyway of turning it off by default or do people prefer it? since I turned that option off when I reregistered.

yeah i turned it off too, twas very annoying, i still get emails about the "gamecube l33tness" topic and i havent posted in their for aaaaages???

Go to User CP and unsubscribe to any of the topics it says you are subscribed to.
