Update, 12th May 2003 - I've added an interesting cheat code to the end of this thread (page 5), also i'm looking to revive interest in the rdb, i have already make a lot of changes to the file and am going to release an updated file soon (within a week). So this is a good opportunity to get any changes you have made to YOUR rdb into the next official release. Many thanks in advance for you help!
OK so what's this thread about? Simply, if the browser says a game works, but it doesn't, I want you to tell me about it here :)
========================================
1) AutoDetect errors
ok let's start with a little lesson about how PJ works and how it's different in 1.5. in v1.0-1.4, the video plugin would calculate a CRC once per boot and once per state load, look this up in its internal database and (hopefully) select the correct RSP code simulation. There was a menu to let you pick incase this failed. The RDB could also force a particular ROM to use a particular uCode if this failed. Fast forward to 1.5. Jabo found that correct emulation of some games required him to allow a game to switch uCodes, whenever and as often as it likes. The upside of allowing this is that you've lots more graphics showing up, downside is that now uCode detection can fail anywhere during execution and we had a hell of time trying to cram all the references in before release. The result is inevitably that the internal database is not quite complete. This is not the disaster it would seem because the RDB can (as some astute folks have noticed thanks to my one example in the file) give these references, but now they are done per calculated-CRC not per ROM, in the header, meaning one line will fix all instances of that CRC being found, and a game can still change uCodes as it likes. Hurrah.
Now could people post any and all detect failures they find in this thread. I need to know:
1) The Good Name of the game
2) The calculated CRC (that's the 8 digit number with $ sign in front)
3) Please describe where in the game this happens, or provide a state save if the point is difficult to get to.
4) Have a go at assigning the correct uCode if you want, use the chart below to help you.
Video plugin uCode detect key
uCode ID#
RSPSW 0
RSPSW_EXT 1
RSPSW_GE 2
RSPSW_PD 3
RSPSW_DKR 4
RSPSW_RARE4 5
S1DEX 6
F3DEX1 7
F3DEX2 8
F3DZEX2 9
F3DEXGB2 10
S2DEX 11
The most common are 0,7,8.
6,11 are the new sprite microcodes.
If you choose the wrong uCode, one of these things could happen:
- Immediate plugin Access Violation
- Graphics will look very messed up
- Game will run with some graphics missing
Don't worry, just try a different one and reset the game (you may need to end and start emulation (F12-F11)).
========================================
2) Resolution detection problems
Pretty easy to understand this, a game is squished or stretched, if you find any let me know here, preferably with the correct forced res value if possible.
========================================
3) Any core settings errors - typically too-weak SMCM, failure from register caching, and so on and so forth... all these need to be worked through, state saves are very helpful.

Is it possible to put game-specific commands in the rdb that make the 1.5 video plugin stay on the same uCode for particular games? Just wondering if this would make certain games run smoother at the expense of certain texture problems.

Not sure if this has already been addressed, but in 'Zelda:Ocarina of Time'
When your an Adult and you try to enter the weapons shop in kakariko village, i got a graphics error pop-up. It happens every time you enter the shop...
If you click 'OK' it sometimes doesn't matter and the shop loads fine, but others the error keeps popping up and the game halts...

Although Zelda 2 works beautifully, the transitions between days has gotten more REALLY annoying. I know the FAQ says it goes black for a few seconds, but instead it goes black, the sound becomes choppy, the game CONTINUES TO PLAY (in other words you get killed behind the scenes) and the frame rate drops to maybe 25 fps. 30 seconds or so later, it shows "next day" text and everything is fine. This wouldn't be annoying if it happened once, but after a while you kind of get scared when it's about to change days (and you run to find a secret place to hide).
Also I have found it impossible to get F-ZeroX running. Complains about invalid opcode (running in interpreter mode = black screen + 10fps). I checked with GoodN64 says it's a fine rom.
Otherwise great job guys you guys rule! :) :pj64: :inlove: :pj64: :inlove: :pj64: :inlove: :inlove:

i'd have another look at that fzero rom cause it should work correctly with almost no glitches in pj1.5.
since u got a better pc (albiet only slightly) it should run even better, i got it running 60fps at 1280x1024x32 + 2x anisotropic filtering using jabos default plugins for pj1.5
check with the bad rom to good rom patching utility and see if theres a patch anyway, thats what i did and once fzero was patched it worked like a dream ;)

In my case, it's because I have every Indy game ever released (and one unreleased, too :D), in every version, for all systems, consoles (and the pinball :)), starting with Raiders for Atari 2600 and ending with Infernal Machine PC and N64, the Nintendo version being the *only* one that I haven't played... and I want to.
Additionally, it differs from the PC version slightly.

I've got one:
Roadsters (US) is listed as not working according to the rdb that comes with PJ64 1.5, however it starts and runs, just very poorly. Graphics errors listed in the rom browser are present, as well as one that isn't: wheels aren't visible. Both the PAL (E) and NTSC (U) version exhibit these symptoms. The PAL version runs somewhat better, but not nearly as well as on a real N64. The sound is much better with the PAL verison though.
Wipeout 64 works fine for me. Mine's the U.S. version. I don't know if it's "good" or not, I don't mess with that verification stuff. I dumped my own roms, so there's really never any question except for the odd foreign rom I downloaded.

All roms with [b] or [b1] or [b2] etc are bad. Avoid those. They should not exist. They should be banned, eradicated, bob-ombed, killed, /dev/null'ed, well you understand.

I didn't see it in this thread, so if it matters I'll say too that Animal Forest (Dobutsu No Mori) is not (properly) playable in PJ64. I saw someone else post the same error, I forget who; after completing the initial tasks for Tom Nook you can't re-enter your house without the emu crashing (black screen, frame rate up to about 4 or 500). You can save (since this doesn't require you enter the house) but it's not much fun not being able to see whatever you've found/bought/received.
Oh, and I do now have a Cube and AC. :) 1964 doesn't work with it either (at least for me; you can't save with anything but savestates, so that sort of ruined it too). However, Apollo did; only it kept crashing every 20 seconds or so. 1 hand on the pad, one on F5... :)
After about a week of that I thought "hell with this" and went out and bought a Cube with all the trimmings. Highly recommended. Shame it doesn't work properly, though; AF is a nice way to see what the game's actually like...
Edit: Again, if it matters:
Athlon 1200
390MB RAM
GeForce 4 (the lowest model, but not one of the baby ones. I forget the number)

i've got something that might interest a lot of people - Tooie just gave me a code that appears to get rid of the ZeldaOoT subscreen delay. I tested it on v1.0 and it seemed to work. The code, which you can add yourself for now (either paste into CHT file in the Zelda U 1.0 section or enter via cheat window), Cheat55="Subscreen delay fix",801DA5CB 0002. Warning - there may be unwanted side effects from this, it hasn't been tested yet. Tooie just gave it to me, i have no idea how he got it, probably some clever digging about in the compiler :)

64ultramaniac, hi (you were always on my fav testy people eheh. nice to still have you around)
Does this mean you've just tried all those points once, or have you tried fiddling with core settings to fix the problem? please let me know. Also some idea of hour serious you think each problem is would be most helpfull. I will try some of those but it's dificult in e.g. Wipeout
Ready 2 Rumble2 - no wonder, i had it on Cache.. try Protect Memory.
Iggy's Reckin Balls - ditto, i would guess

hi Smiff
for wipeout64 here is a save for you to try it,load it in options and go to challenge or time trial,it doesn't matter.
Gent
May 15th, 2003, 16:07
Hmmm yea same for N-Rages_DI8_V2_1.80a :plain:
Dont matter if it is one Challenge race or all compleated
On save and reload its freezes.
That also applies to pj saves .....
but if you save when you are about to do the next challenge you can F7 (Quick Load) and press A and go & race on that yellow highlighted next race.
but if you try to go up to a previous race it will freeze.

i also had the av prob,it can happen in race mode too, nothing you can do about it (i think).
also for ready 2 rumble 2,it has the same problem with protect memory too,i tried everything, nothing works.i think it's the gfx plugin so it's unlikely you can do something about it...
the same goes for iggy's so these 2 games are not really playable :(

Ogre Battle - how serious are the black backgrounds in battle scenes? how much does it affect the game?
Resident Evil - how serious is the flicker? how much does it affect the game?
that's all for now, thanks.

the game doesn't always hung at the same place so it can trick you and get away with it.
no matter what smcm i'm using, sometimes i can pass the 1st fight. for instance i remember that once i reached the 5th or 6th fight and then it hung. but no matter what fight, it freezes always when you have finished a fight and it shows the winning screen or a game over screen.
i've played this game extensively so i'm positive about it.

OK er i must have forgotten to post last night, keep R2Rr2 on Cache and change to CF1 - that seems to work for me + Gent.
is there anything CF1 won't fix ;)
Re2 - I always had the problem that it hangs just after the first door. But these settings seem to work for me: (all default plugs of course):
Recompiler
Protect Memory
8MB
Off
detect 1st used (why do i think RE2 is 16k eeprom?)
CF1
all the boxes UNchecked.
64ultramiac are those your settings also?
when testing don't use states, they can make you think it's more ok than it is apparently.
64ultramaniac
May 16th, 2003, 17:06
i've used before cf1 for ready 2 rumble 2, i just had it on protect.
now i tried with cf1 and cache as you said and i got another nice and beautiful lockup in the game over screen.
as i said there is no way to avoid a lockup, sometime it will happen, it just tricks you because it doesn't do it in the same place.
as for resi, yes these are the exact same settings i'm using too.
cf1 solves both the flickering and lockup problems. for the history i just want to say that the game runs at full speed (60fps) with cf1 and protect memory (plus no rc) in an athlon 700mhz!
who said project64 is not fast enough

in my opinion ogre battle is still playable despite these problems.
of course i haven't finished the game so i can't tell 100% that is playable till the end.
but my guess is that it is...
for dobutsu i wasn't able to crash it till now,and i guess it will be difficult to find that crash you're talking about (if it exists)

With the black back grounds, the game can still be played. But it really kills it, once you played a few of the battles where the backgrounds are working, and realize how much better the battles are with the back grounds.

Be happy to. The only problem, no matter how many times I save it through the boss battles, you start at the bottom of Ganon's Tower. The enemies are gone (save for bats in the first room), but you'll have to fight Ganondorf, two Skull dudes on the way down the tower, and Ganon.

Could the note you wanted to add have been something to do with how dark the game is?(probably not but just in case..) If so then that is something wrong with the actual game (even on the N64 it was criticised for the level of darkness prevalent).

Animal Forest (Dobutsu No Mori) emu crashes when re-entering house?
Aside from graphical errors and a bug in which there's a long pause when switching to the game's menu, this game seems perfectly emulated for me (before v1.5 SP1). After installing SP1, the game would crash after a few minutes of playing. I inspected the ROM settings for the entry and found that they'd changed from v1.5 to v1.5 SP1.
PJ64 v1.5:
Good Name=Dobutsu no Mori (J)
Internal Name=DOUBUTSUNOMORI
RDRAM Size=4
Counter Factor=2
Save Type=First Save Type
CPU Type=Recompiler
Self-modifying code Method=[B]Change Memory
Use TLB=Yes
Linking=Global
Reg Cache=Yes
Use Large Buffer=No
//Geometry Pipeline=Internal
Status=Compatible
PJ64 v1.5 SP1:
Good Name=Dobutsu no Mori (J)
Internal Name=DOUBUTSUNOMORI
RDRAM Size=4
Counter Factor=2
Save Type=First Save Type
CPU Type=Recompiler
Self-modifying code Method=[B]Protected Memory
Use TLB=Yes
Linking=Global
Reg Cache=Yes
Use Large Buffer=No
Status=Uncertain
Delay SI=No
SP Hack=No
Core Note=crash when re-entering house?
Plugin Note=
After changing the Self-modifying Code Method back to Change Memory, the game played perfectly. I get a crash when loading a savestate every great once-in-a-while, but it's only a minor annoyance at most and easily mended (though I don't remember it being there before SP1).
If you'd like some screenies of the graphical errors (in case it might be an emu-level problem), don't hesitate to ask. So far, though, Orkin's glNintendo() 0.3.2b works best for me where graphics plugins are concerned. I tried the new 0.4 earlier tonight with disappointing results, so I'm back on 0.3.2b.

I noticed that All-Star Baseball 2000 and 2001 freeze with PJ64 1.5 and the current rom settings in rdb. It froze in the 4th-5th innings. The emulator still works... just the games stop doing anything. I then unchecked "register caching" and changed it to "protect memory" and made it to the 8th inning and then it froze. I tried interpreter but it was too slow.
They're good roms and I'm using Rice's video plugin (the only one that makes it 100% playable) and Jabo's audio.

I can confirm that the grid is missing in Mario Golf (U), at least with my specs. There is another thing tho. It seems that when hitting and zooming up to the ball after hitting are only about 30 FPS. Can someone else try this and check for both things? It might just be my system...
Did you get the slowdown problem solved? I'm also having this problem if you know a solution please reply quickly.

Don't know if already posted, but i have graphic problems with Mission Impossible.
I am unable to choose a level at beginning because the display shows always the same picture and at that point it slows down to 30 FPS, when I play a level at full speed.
The sound is sometimes also bad.

Have you ever considered that you have set up your Input plugin wrong? Like putting the up button on the down key. Also blast corps is known for not working properly.
Make use of the "Edit Button" instead of double posting.

Rom Notes for Monster Truck Madness 64:
Use Glide64 at default settings if you are having trouble with rain or snow related slowdown with Jabos aka:
Use Glide64 to fix slowdown in rain, snow, and dark.
Edit: Today my plugin decided to reset and I forgot how I fixed it so it ran smoothly in snow

The Robotech:Crystal Dreams game requires forcing 8MB mode in order to play multiplayer or customize tail/cockpit designs features.
although glitchy, multiplayer is actually functional up to 4 players.
rules:set proper number of players in menu
disconnect any controllers not beng used for that multi

Hmmm, Zelda OoT u guys say that game cannot be completed, because of out of mapped space, found a trick that WORKS.
Before u kill ganon,save.
Then settings look like this
Cpu Core Style: Recomplier
Self Mod Code Check Memory and Cache
Default mem Size 8 mb
Adv Block Linking On
Larger Compiler Buffer: Checked
Use TLB Checked
And play in window.
That is one solution. And second is to ask me for my redump, which works just fine!
But file size iz 73 mbs.

Change the self modifying code method for the particular game. Reffer to the PJ64 manual if you don't know how to do it.
