Do I need a new monitor?

Hello friends..
I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion P6744Y desktop computer running Windows 7 and using a two years old monitor with it. For some reason all icons, screen savers, videos and wall papers on the monitor screen are weak/faded looking. I think my old monitor does not have enough resolution to accommodate this new computer. Do you think a new monitor would solve the problem?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Check your desktop settings first

No you should check your desktop settings. If your computer display was fine priorly then it's unlikely the monitor at all.

First things first

  1. What type of monitor (LCD Plasma projection CRT)
  2. What is the monitor's resolution (you should be able to find this out easily from the manufacturers website et al)
  3. What IS your monitor give the model and make (someone can look it up)
  4. What are your desktop settings <-- this is the most likely source of your troubles always assume Microsoft has screwed something up before blaming hardware.
