View Full Version : F-Zero X (U) [!] & Wave Race 64 (U) (V1.1) [!]: glitches fix add to RDB notes?

I noticed several glitches with these games at first surprisingly since they are marked as "green compatible" in the latest RDB without any notes.

I use still the default plugins:
Video: Jabo's Direct3D7 1.40
Audio: Jabo's DirectSound 1.40
Input: Jabo's DirectInput7 1.40

I noticed 2 weird glitches not mentioned in neither the gamefaq nor the notes of the most recent RDB with F-Zero

A) sky was very awkward, background wasn't displayed but umm something else -> fixed by "Force Depth Enable".

B) I had flickering in the front part of the track so I could see to the ground every couple of seconds. "Direct3D T&L HAL" caused this. Switching back to "Direct3D HAL" fixed it. Weird it didn't cause problems in any other rom so far. Ah well I guess I'll stick with non T&L for now.

I guess B) doesn't really need to be mentioned because if diverts from the default config but maybe A) should?

A) also applies to WaveRace. The cure is already mentioned in the gamefaq in this case however.

hi corak, thanks for your constructive posts.

We believe A) to be a hardware/driver issue and so i included it for Wave Race as a courtesy to Radeon users.. i guess i should add info to others games as found. However, the ROM Browser notes will only contain confirmed definate emulator issues, i'm sure you understand why (space+time+clarity)

OK i've added that to GameFAQ, not sure how to describe problem.

I see your point. I agree it should be only added to the RDB if it's an emulator issue affecting everyone. Otherwise it could be misleading.

I'm no Radeon user however! I have been a Voodoo fanboy a long time (Voodoo1, Voodoo2, Voodoo3) but never looked back after switching to nvidia with a Geforce2 and currently Geforce3. :D

Not just Radeon, nor Voodoo users. I have these same glitches with my GeForce. It was discussed briefly in some earlier threads, but I was never able to make a specific hardware connection.

Some things ive found

1) T&L makes no diff.
2) internal/external transforms makes no diff EDIT: since writing this i've found the problem is with internal only - ?

As stated at top, Force Depth Enable fixes the problem, but the point is it shouldn't be needed :/

GeForce3 here, and I get this also with Wave Race. Using Force Depth Enable fixes it.

Asus A7V-133 using AMD T-Bird 1.2Ghz
Windows XP Pro Version 2002
768MEG RAM PC133
Xtasy GeForce 3 ti200 with Det. 29.42's
Sound Blast Live! Value
Desktop @ 1024x768x32
N64 EMU's 640x480 window mode

Geforce3 also. Off the top of my head, here are some games that "need" force depth enable:

-Wave Race
-F-Zero X
-Jet Force Gemini
-Spider-man
-1080 Snowboarding
-Diddy Kong Racing
-Cruis'n World (not the sky, but the tire tracks - see pic)
probably more, I'll need to check later

Cruisn' pic. Tire tracks aren't on the road where they should be:

do you notice any downsides to having Force Depth Enable enabled?

Just one that I've noticed so far. FDE makes the compass disappear in Spider-man.

the force normal blending fix is needed on a TNT but not on a Geforce (in F-Zero X), so i think that it just depends on your card, and id doesn't need to be included in the RDB.

in my gForce 2MX400 is perfect, with or without T&L, with or without Normal Blending, without Force Depth Enable but sometimes, with T&L, Waverace (v1.1)(U), F-zero, jetforce gemini (f1) don't start.........
......disabling T&L, works. (??????????)
with 1964 I don't have this problem........

i use detonator 29.42....

Yes, it needs.
Because it should look right. And it won't if users don't know how to make it look right.
(normal blending if on tnt)
