i have winXp on my computer, and i wanna format my hardrive. since winxp doesn't allow me to get to dos, i can't format from does. also, i can't do this from the command prompt because it won't let me because winXp is still running. so, how do i this?

You'll need a startup disk, you can use a 98 startup disk if you know someone win Win98. If you want to install Mandrake Linux it'll format your disk for you :)

Well if you want to install XP after the format, the easiest way is to just boot your computer from the CD, and then during the installation it will ask you if you want to format your computer. Just do it then.

Yep, I did that a while ago from the xp professional cd and there were no probs. Just make sure you put your modem and video card drivers etc on another cd otherwise you'll be kicking yourself if you cant go online

i'm retarded, i figured this out about a second after i posted it, guess i shoulda tried first, well, now im formatted, thanks anways
