play around with the settings like emulation speed/lcd refresh to find out which settings are more suitable for your system, try to decrease the sound quality (although this doesn´t help much imo) or try different render methods (only available in 2.6a iirc). Also, it may be that your hardware is outdated, so it would be more helpful if you posted your system specs like cpu, gfx card etc. You could also try to update your gfx drivers or getting the newest vers of directx (i´m not sure with the directx thing, since i don´t think no$gby rly needs it Oo).

Changing the emulation speed is the only thing that has a noticeable affect on how fast the games run, at least on my system. If Mario Kart doesn't run smothly, his system is either too slow or he's using an old(er) version of No$Gba.
