It's not a virus, it runs Mario Kart and Pilotwings wireframed very nicely... Good work linker, it looks like if it's going to be a great year for Nintendo 64 emulation:D

Thank you remote, Yep, i'm very happy actually. I just love the emulation. That's why I decided that I can make something cool.

One thing that crossed my mind is that your plugin doesn't have the shutting down problem that Orkin's OGL plugin is having, no problems what so ever starting and ending emulation in Project64 with the rombrowser enabled...
2fast4u
April 23rd, 2002, 05:18
it crashed internet explorer when i launched a rom with it. still, this is a nice start. not to mention how great it is to have another plug-in in the works! :)

Actually there were some problems. After 1 hour of hard work :) it decided to work.

i m absolutely ecstatic about all the new gfx plugin activity! Are any of these plugins going to be open source? /me thinks that might speed dev, as well as foster learning in the community.

Glad to see some cool plugins being made,
I reckon u should go open source like Dave2000, jabos died and no one could fix the remaining games or do optimisations :(
As you and orkin are both doing opengl and have started roughly the same time, maybe u should join forces and make one OpenN64 Graphix plugin that everyone contributes towards and things will speed up a lot, you never know, icep8 and azimer may join instead of making a 100 plugins, a standard one may dev. fast as lots of ppl work on it :)
Cheers 4 the cool plug neway.

i believe it's "Too many cooks spoil the broth". My favorite though is "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." i mean, if you don't look your gift horse in the mouth, it may die of some curable disease, so that's a real "double edged sword". Oh well, better to have that bird in hand than in the bush, right?

Its too many cooks spoil the broth.
Collaborate guys. Lets get an openGL plug that's got 2 committed coders behind it rather than 2 with 1 coder behind each of them.
Or at least let each other have each others source for ideas or inspiration.
All i'm really waiting for is Banjo Tooie to work. I'll play it even if it has choppy graphics and stuttery sound...

crhylove: if you knew this and was kidding i apologize, but "Never look a gift horse in the mouth." is a spanish saying that means that if you got something as a present don't look for faults (because the only way to determine a horse's age is by looking at his teeth)
and now about the topic:
i agree totally about joining forces and open source. one of the main reasons dave has come so far in such short time is because he opened the source and had a lot of helpers.
Dave2001
April 24th, 2002, 07:50
Yes, open source definately helps. I have several people contributing to my project. Anyway, good luck!
by the way: most of the colors on mario objects are generated by lighting, not through vertex colors
crhylove
April 24th, 2002, 16:23
Hence the whole little anecdote about horse mouth gazing and such.
I agree Dave, as i see it, non commercial projects always die unless they are open source, and i've never heard of a commercial emu. although maybe pj64's post donated members only beta testing may have been close (that's no criticism, just a technicality of verbage).
think how much farther the whole community would be if corn would have been open source, or if uhle would have been open source. i mean, obviously this is totally up to the author(s), and the best thing is the many soups equation we are suddenly enjoying, but i think that the feedback that jabo, schibo, rice, and other 733+ hackers can give back to plugin coders would be more valuable than any kind of proprietary source imho. speaking of open source and jabo..... yeah, i know, i know, as i said this is TOTALLY up to the authors, but when you look at what the GODS of coding have done (id, and carmack specifically), it really sets a moral precedent at least in my mind.
if commercialism is not the point, then obviously aiding the rest of mankind with your code, and hence your time, and hence part of your very life, is a good thing. when you are ready.
i just think that it'd be exciting to have a n64 emu that was closer to ZSNES stats before the ps2 emus start kicking our ass. there are many, many awesome games that are completely unemulated afaik, and emulation is a way for us to carry those games onto future generations of players, when actual consoles are relegated to hobbyists and collectors, as is currently the case with the original NES, and why i find fce ultra (esp. the latest .76) to be such a valuable part of communicating our human history to the future.
and before you start railing me saying wtf have YOU done for humanity, i'm no coder, i'm just an enthusiast (round here), but i have donated LOTS of my human life on many many musical projects, which is more where my talents lie. there are many freely available examples @:
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/194/communizt_vagina.html
and
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/125/rhy.html
and my long distance carrier is http://www.workingassets.com/
oh yeah, and this is a good idea for starters:
http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4458
maybe start with dave's plugin and unglide it? i don't know nothin' bout codin' so if this is a lame idea, drive to riverside and shoot my ass.:inlove:

First of all, there have been commercial emus. Bleem! and Connectix VGS for the PSX. But nothing for the N64.
Second, I think porting Glide64 to OpenGL is a great idea. That'swhat I'm studying right now. :) But don't expect anything, 'cause I'm kinda new to 3D.

Good work linker, looks like you've got a good start! :colgate:
And for those calling for us to join forces...I'd wrather work on my own. It's not that I have anything against linker, I just find it easier to get things accomplished when I have full control over a project.
As far as open source and sharing of findings/ideas go, I'm all for it. I was already planning on going open source, I just didn't bother on my first release since there wasn't much there anyway.

About the open source: yea, I like it. But please wait. Maybe I'll show it sometime later :).
Dave: I know that most of the colors on mario objects are generated by lighting, not through vertex colors :), but I just hated that pink (or whatever) colour is.

I am not in the least suprised. Especially with the attention Dave's plugin has gotten. The publicity isn't all it's cracked up to be. Besides... reinventing the wheel a few dozen times doesn't make a perfect wheel. Only by fixing the imperfections does a perfect wheel develop. That is my hope for all new developers. Good luck!

ACTUALLY, that's the plugin, what I ment is prior to recieving the DLIST for your plugin you can stop execution and examine the status of the N64. This is not something you can do with the plugin :bunny:

pj64 has breakpoints which stop the system and examine the status of the N64, other then u have to be in the interruptor. If you stop inside the plugin at the start of the dlist, then you still can use the debugger to look at the memory, registers, etc ...

german has it's attributes, but having taken it in school, and having been around the planet, speaking english almost everywhere with fairly easy communication, i'd have to say that the sooner EVERYBODY speaks english, the better for all humanity. (barriers to communication abound WITHOUT all kinds of seperate languages). the only real reason i'd nominate english is it's current dominance (globally) particularly in india where over 1/3 of the population lives anyway.
i of course make some exception for what passes as "english" in texas and other places.... i'm deeply sorry about all that.
