Problem Installing .NET Framework 3.0

I downloaded the .NET framework and tried manually installing it, but for some reason every single time I try to install it, it says there was an error during the installation process I'm not sure at all what to do.

Just tried it and I don't have that registry value

well what more details?

I can give the error report and i just tried installing 2.0 instead and it doesn't install either

Error report for 3.0
[04/16/08,22:48:08] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. MSI returned error code 1601
[04/16/08,22:50:19] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed.

do you have .net 2.0 installed? sounds like it might be a prerequisite? or maybe 3.0 tries to install it too?

Neither of them will install. At the end of trying to install 2.0 It says that the Windows Installer couldn't be reached and that there may be a problem with the windows installer and to reregister it. I did that everything is the same. I don't think it's that either because of every other program will install properly
