I want Master Hand!!!

I've got a ROM for Smash Bros, and the videos online explaining the Master Hand Cheat are pretty straightforward.
After much googling, I've given up. In the videos, there's a neat little menu where you just double-click the character you want from the cheat menu.

My emu doesn't have that for some reason. It's got some sort of text box where I have to type in stuff or something.

I tried replacing the "00??" with a "0C??" (the two characters next to the words Master Hand), but it didn't do anything.

what am I doing wrong?

i have a character modifier cheat and you pick them from a list although i don't remember if i added it or if it came with pj64.

you need Super Smash Bros. (U).
the cheat is the debug menu.
start the game and choose "Cheats"
click the right mouse button -> Add a Cheat.
Name: Debug-Mode or however
Code: 800A4AD0 0004
add it.
now, you can play with metal mario, polygon and master hand...

there is a way that you can do it. I think that you unlock him by completing the game on hard mode with all of the characters in a certain amount of time.

you cant unlock him, you can only get him with gameshark.
