I can't use any directional buttons...

For some odd reason I cannot use any diirectional buttons when using Kirby 64, Dr. Mario, or Pokemon Stadium. I have assigned the buttons and they work fine on all of my other Roms, and I've even redownloaded the games in question from several different Rom sites and I keep getting the same problem. Every other button seems to work and I can't use the directional buttons even when I set them to the key board. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
