No more sound ....

Hello all,

for starters, I am not 'computer stupid' but I *am* perhaps 'games stupid'.

I installed the Project64 Emulator - my son got me 'infected' with the Zelda adventures some while ago - and from time to time I like to just free my head from my work (programmer / PC Support specialist) by playing around (no detriment to the serious Gamers!)
The software worked very well, until I started Windows (I have a 'Playground' Partition) to continue an adventure - to my dismay I got and get no sound any more!
I cannot recall there being any software Updates installed or hardware added that would cause this. All other Apps function perfectly with all sound / video perfectly reproduced.
I have just reinstalled the emulator after removing all references from the registry (= clean install!), but I still get not a 'peep' from any ROM that I load.

Any Ideas ??? Thanks in advance for your input, and if you need any info from me for troubleshooting, I am your disposal :)

Best rgds,

You could try another sound plugin:

And if you like Zelda OoT you could use Djipi's Celda "texture pack":

To make it look like this:

David_D,

Keep in mind that Windows Vista had DirectSound removed, so Jabo's DirectSound 1.6 and lower will not properly function on these operating systems.

Not much I can say if it's not as if you have Vista. If it is (maybe even if it isn't), you have three options:
  1. Try an HLE audio plugin. Azimer's Audio HLE v0.56 WIP 2 is especially worth a go, should be on the linked list in the above post.
  2. Try Project64 on another operating system.
  3. Donate to the Project64 team. (pj64-emu.com)

incorrect

Directsound Hardware and Directsound 3D are removed in vista

Jabo's Dsound 1.6 uses software mixing and works fine on Vista

DirectSound is still in Vista, it's just emulated. Jabo's DirectSound plugin still works (I can confirm this).

I'd make sure that Jabo's DirectSound is selected and that the the "Send alists to audio plugin" checkbox in the RSP settings is deselected. If that's not the problem, then perhaps it's a driver issue, or maybe a sound channel accidentally got muted.

Probably in that damn beta thread I got tired of opening, exiting over and over again and seeing stuff I would never have anything to say to, so sorry if it seemed like I was trying to troll squall or something; I'm just getting tired of reading through every updated thread. I need all my time for purposes I can actually do things with.

Yes, I agree...I really should've thought about those possibilities before I made an assumption.

No more Sound !

Thank you all for your efforts, I still have no solutions or ideas :-(.

Incidentally I am using XP Pro and do not plan to go to Vista for at least the next two years - or Microsoft rectifies *all* of the problems and User unfriendly features (alone that will take MS three years!)

I am still somewhat puzzled by the fact that the 'stock' install - I believe version 1.6 - including the supplied drivers / plugins, fuctioned flawlessly for some time before this 'bug' reared it's ugly head!

I shall notify as and when I find a solution (other that a complete re-stage). Of course I shall welcome input from this group as well :flowers:

Thanks and best rgds to you all

Why didn't I think of checking his profile to see he had XP??

Not much left to say; not at all a sound expert.
  1. Did you tweak around with your volume configuration settings for Windows?
  2. Did you change anything about your sound drivers or their properties and settings?
