Project64 Graphics error

Hey guys, im new to this site, and i just acquired the pj64 emulator. Im having a problem when I start up the emulator, everytime I get this error message:
"direct3d failed to initialize your HAL device make sure you have a properly configured 3d graphics card compatible with direct3d 6.0"

Now Im not exactly sure what is causing the problem because my specs are, windows xp
2.8ghz
Radeon9200 graphics card
728MB ram

Any help on this situation would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance

Start/Run

type 'dxdiag'

If nothing comes up, that means you don't have DirectX installed.
If a dialogue does come up, you do have it installed, but you don't have the required version or later.

Update your video card drivers.

Radeon 9200 I think should work just fine once DirectX is (re)installed.

I've updated all of my drivers, and my directx is working fine...hmm i'll try to see if i can fix it

What version of DirectX do you have?

Look in the DirectX Diagnosis you initiated via the Start Menu for this information. It is needed to direct you to the cause of your issue.

the radeon 9200 requires you to be in 16bit color mode when launching project64

this has been posted about on countless times
