I load it up, everything goes fine, untill I hit the character selection screen, it just freezes, how can I fix this?

Has it occurred to you that maybe No$Gba doesn't emulate the game that well?

Yes it emulated pokemon diamond just fine with a patch because of the save type problem but worked fine with the save type now.
