Before I spend $63.50 (not including shipping) on a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy PCI Sound Card at googlegear.com (http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=290207), I'd like to know if it will improve the audio in Project64 or not over my cheesy onboard audio chip.

I plan to get one anyway, but I could hold off on it for a while if I should upgrade other aspects of my PC first.

Any thoughts?

If you're gonna be using the card just for Project 64, I don't think it would make much difference. My onboard sound chip sounds exactly the same as my friends audigy when playing mario. However, if you're gonna play other games which take advantage of a 3d sound features like EAX and you have a decent speaker system, you'll hear a BIG difference.

I see. From your reply I gather it's safe to assume that the sound quality in this emu is directly related to either:
my CPU, the plugins, the game itself, or my bus/memory speed.

Thanks for the swift reply, dude. I'm going to get the sound card anyway (mainly for the 'other' PC Games that need it badly) and leave the other upgrades for when I win the Lottery... :P

personally, I'd go for the live 5.1de, it's given me no problems, and it's a damn siight cheaper than an audigy, for no real bonuses.

(and, if you believe the story, you can turn it into an audigy minus the physical hardware extras - true ? or not...)
