Jittery performance on Pentium D 805

Recently "upgraded" from an Athlon XP 2500+ to a Pentium D 805. I'm using the same FX5200 video card on the new box, and have 1GB RAM installed.

On the Athlon, performance was smooth, with no hiccups. On the D805, however, I am having issues. Generally gameplay is smooth, but with occasional hiccups. Also, on the menus in Hot Wheels Turbo Racing, for example, there is stuttering in both the menu audio and video on load. During heavy action scenes (ie. multiplayer car crash), the audio and video also stutter.

What can I do to troubleshoot my problems?

The problems with Hot Wheels Turbo Racing lie within your emulator and plugins you choose, not your hardware. This game has a known problem of stuttering during menu transitions. The Project64 defaults seem to be the best choice for emulating this game, but instead, you may prefer to use Rice"s Video Plugin as your graphics plugin.

These transitional and graphics errors you notice within the game are what are called "known issues," and as of now, liably no one knows how to fix them.

ACTUALLY, this is a Dual core timing method problem

when you launch Project 64, set the core affinity to 1 cpu.
