I regestered in this site for extreme help!
I was new to emunating 2 days ago spending 5 hours figuring out what to install and finding a ROM. I ended up with having:
Project64
1964
Zelda: Ocarina of Time ROM
I would like to retexture the Ocarina of Time game using the Wind Waker-like graphics from Djipi. But I have no idea what I am doing and I feel like ripping my hair. I know I need some "Rice Code" and when I download it and open it says "Windows can't open this file" because it needs to know what program created it. I think I need to download BMGlib.rar and RiceVideo-6 beta 10 or something. I even watched a tutorial from http://bayoudejital.classicgaming.gamespy.com/ds/temp/celzelda.html
and I got even more confused.
Could someone give me a step-by-step instruction to me like I was a 5 year old? I feel really stupid.
Could someone also give me links to the Rice Code and Djipi's Final Mod stuff.
Sometimes I seem to find them on the forums but the links lead to the Main Page of Emutalk.com (??).
Please I am begging.
Also, is it possible to retexture this on Project64 instead easily?
:(
Oh, and if someone saw that tutorial, what is the 099 Folder?? That cursor clicks it out of nowhere but what is that?
I found the thread Djipi's Final Cell Update but I figured it was a UPDATE and not the whole pack itself. There is a whole pack from Muddy in the thread but the link didn't work for me(what's a torrent?). Why are the links dead?

In order to download with a torrent you need a BitTorrent Client like Azureus or BitComet.

I have downloaded BitLord, saved it, opened it, and installed it. Now what??
Also could someone give me a link to the Rice Code and Djipi's latest graphics (for Ocarina of Time)?

I would like to retexture the Ocarina of Time using the Wind Waker-like graphics from Djipi. :(
Why in the hell would you want to do this? OOt is already retextured in the Wind Waker style by Djipi. It would be a complete waste of time. Besides, you weren't going to just use Djipi's textures without asking were you? Find another game to retexture with your own style. The last thing we need right now is another OOT project.

Wait, you are saying I would want to alter Djipi's textures?? What I want is to put the Wind Waker textures on my OoT.
I don't want to retexture the textures itself.
Sorry if you misunderstood but seriously, how could a n00b like me learn how to do that.
Still need help here!!

Try figuring stuff out and searching on your own. I'm fairly sure every single thing you have asked can be answered in like 4 seconds in this very forum.

Still need help here!!Have you tried making furniture? Or trading shares perhaps? I'm sure they'd be more fun to do without learning how to first.
This is not a field where you can come in and say, "hold my hand and tell me everything to do so I can make an awesome project and take all the credit". Do something in private, learn from scratch as most of the good people on this forum have done and come back in a few months when you have something to offer.
This is not something you can take lightly. Some people do this for a PROFESSION. If you're no good, don't bother. We have enough google-image-search projects infecting this forum as it is.
Excuse my harshness, but you are one of many.

You need to download an emulator "1964" is a good one. Then you need to download "Rice's video plugin 6 Beta 10" follow the txt file for where to place the files, but basically the files go into the plugin folder, in the same folder the emulator is in, and there is a file called "BMGlib.dll" which needs to go into the emulator folder itself.
Then you need to make a new folder in the plugin folder, call it "hires_texture" and then when you download Djipi's OoT pack, place it in that folder.
with that done, open the emulator, and be sure to choose Rice's beta 10 video plugin, and in the video plugin's options, find the option to enable hi-res textures, and activate it.
Now when you run the game, it should load in the new textures and you can play.
If you have any problems with this, please search the forums, and refer to the existing help threads.

But when I download BMG and Rice Code the type is simply called RAR File and according to the video tutorial it is called instead "Application Extendor" or something like that. Is this normal?
Using BitTorrent I downloaded Djipi's Pack since it was a torrent. I do not know what to do with it now.

Theres tutorials on this forum for a reason....please use them. People spent time making them for users having a hard time. Its even has a locked position on the top of the forum....so its not going anywhere. This thread is out of context, and should be removed seeing as its a waste of space.

The only problem is those links on the "Stickies" that I download does not seem to work. They are different than the Tutorial Video I saw!
I'm still trying to figure out with the Torrent stuff.
Vanit
June 21st, 2006, 02:01
Hmmm... Well if you're not going to release it I suppose thats fair. Its going to be a total pain for your first project with regards to textures though.
Basically you'll have to find the file of the texture you want to replace in Oot, then the appropriate texture from Djipi's pack to override it with. You'll probably have to tweak the sizes a bit to make them fit properly and perhaps tile better. There will probably be textures you won't be able to replace from the MM pack like bosses because they weren't reused.
First and foremost do you have photoshop? Otherwise this will be very difficult.

And about rar files, google WinRAR, it will unpack the RAR file and the BMGlib.dll and Rice's plugin will be in it.

Am I doing it right?
Cabbage
June 22nd, 2006, 02:16
I have done the following steps so far:
Went to a folder called Program Files>>Project64 1.6>>Plugin.
Added RiceVideo6[1].1.1beta10.rar
Went back to Project64 1.6 folder and added BMGlib.rar
Went forward to Plugin and created a folder called hires_texture
Went to hires_texture and created a folder THE LEGEND OF ZELDA
Added Djipi's Cel Zelda MOD.7z.torrent to THE LEGEND OF ZELDA
Went back all the way to Project64 1.6 and added Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.2) [!].zip
I know I did something wrong because absolutely nothing changed. I opened up Project 64 and went to Settings and Plugins Tab. I checked the Plugins and there was no RiceCode.
I am very, very sure the problem is the files:
BMGlib.rar
RiceVideo6[1].1.1beta10.rar
because they have the icon of a white window of 6 icons. The tutorial I see from
http://bayoudejital.classicgaming.gamespy.com/ds/temp/celzelda.html
has those files except they have the icons of 3 books with an Up Arrow on top of it.
I think I possibly added the torrent incorrectly, too. But the point now is that the plugins don't even work.
Could someone give me links to the RiceCode and BMG? I'm sure the ones I have are dead.

June 22nd, 2006, 02:23
Oh, and Vanit.
You still don't seem to understand.
I am not making a project. I am not tweaking sizes or changing colors (in other words, altering) Djipi's textures. I did not mean to "retexture" Djipi's textures but to make the OoT game be played "with" Djipi's textures.
The name of my thread must've confused lots of people.
mdtauk
June 22nd, 2006, 02:24
now the problems you have are, you need to extract the files from the RAR files. RAR Files are similar to zip files, they compress the actual files inside them so you need to open the RAR files, and extract the contents into the folders i told you.
With the torrent, you need to open a ".torrent" file with bitcomet or another bit torrent tool, download the file, which will be a 7zip file, which needs to be opened and the folders and files inside extracted into the folder you created. you may already have the file downloaded, but it is named wrong. If the filesize of that "Djipi's Cel Zelda MOD.7z.torrent" is over 5 MBs, then you should just remove the ".torrent" from the end of the filename, and open in winrar, or a program which supports 7z or 7zip files.

Dear ZFB8,
I seem to have missed your post. So I got WinRAR and THAT HELPED A LOT. Now I need to solve the torrent problem and some INI error.

Cabbage
June 22nd, 2006, 02:47
I have changed the torrent into a WinRAR file. I hope I am doing something right. The INI error seems to be gone. Hmmm. I gonna see if it works.
Whoa, Deja Vu. I haven't set up the textures but with the RiceCode on, it acts exactly like 1964. Except there is no black flickering on the floors.

June 22nd, 2006, 02:55
Now the ONLY problem is the torrent or textures. Either one. How do I turn it on. Or did I set it up incorreclty.
I made the torrent change with WinRAR and added it to THE LEGEND OF ZELDA folder.
The RiceCode is causing problems to my Start Menu in the Zelda game. The eqiupment menu where Link is, is all messed up.Yup, just like 1964. And the blue warpholes' appearance on the boss rooms are gone. And the dirt that comes out of Link's feet when he swings the swords appear as squares...

Open the ".torrent" file in your bit torrent application, I use BitComet. Then once it has downloaded, extract it and put all the files and folders into the folder you made inside the hi-res folder.
I dont think I can explain it any easier, if you can manage to understand that, then I think you should give up trying to use the pak...

we cant make it easier than you has done kerber ;)
i hope it will help
a torrent is a file with a link in it(like a emule or a edonkey link) like ed2k or emule you need a client for download your rar file.
i like azureus client for download.
to launch the download simply open the torent file.
a rar file is a compresed folder like zip cab bz tar etc...
you need a decompressor program to extract it.
there are a lots of extractors like winrar winace 7z winzip...
extract rice beta 10 plugin compresed file in the plugin folder of your emulator
and and the compresed file of bmg lib near the emulator file (in the same folder as the emulator)
you need to put "THE LEGEND OF THE ZELDA" folder you have extrated from the rar downloaded with your bitorent client (the djipi pack) in the hires folder in the plugin folder. then in rice seting menu tick "load hi res textures if avaliable" and i hope it will work
if you got pb try to find a friend who know a litle how to use it (in rl or msn or things like that)

I think I found the problem I am having now. I heard that textures only work on Version 1.0 for OoT. I have 1.2. I hope I am proved wrong, until then, I'm searching for it.
Wait...I don't have GoodName (??). Whatever that is.
And what does "dumping [the textures]" mean? And DIR??
On the tutorial they were not "GoodNamed" and other people don't really mention that to me.

June 24th, 2006, 15:55
goodname vis a tool for rename the card name in the rom file but you dont need it if you find the rom
dumping texture mean take texture of the game (its usefull for edit them but you dont need it too)
and DIR mean directory its a synonim of folder and i got a question whitch is your nationality? ( for private mesage in foreing language)

Open up your ".torrent"-file in your BitTorrent client (in your position, BitLord), let it complet downloading, rightclick on the torrent in your torrent-file and select "Open up download-folder" or something like that, then unrar the rar-file in that folder to the HiRez place.

actually, i never had any problems getting anything to work when i first got into n64 emulation.
somebody needs to make you an idiot-proof guide to installing and using hi-res textures that no one could get confused by reading. you know what, i might just try and make one because i feel sorry for you. that would suck to be stuck trying to get this crap to work for days and having no luck with it. ok, give me like a couple hours while i try to write it. and i swear to god if i write this and it doesnt help, im going to shoot myself in the face.

yea i think its the final solution... a rar or zip file auto executable(.exe) with all in it(emulator, plugins and textures ready to play) and will extract in good directory with a .bat or .reg file for the setings of the emulator and plugin will work... only double click needed. or a fully compiled instaler with all in it will be good it a good coder can meke it it will be good.

July 1st, 2006, 16:15
Actually it is not the only solution, and it isn't exactly the best one either. Alternatives:
1) Bring someone related or a friend who is computer literate to do it. Why? because emulator repacks a tend to be something of a controversial nature around here. Just so you know, packing a rom with an emulator is illegal and against the rules of this forum.
2) Forget about the textures and just run the rom as it was originally intended.
3) Read over the support threads and learn like the rest of us, if we can do it so can you.
4) Don't try at all.

Another question I really need answered:
Does the textures work ONLY on Ocarina of Time version 1.0???
