View Full Version : laggy gameplay on fast system

I have a decent system (GeForce2 MX w/ 16 megs of RAM, 256 megs of RAM, WinME, 1.0 ghz processor) and I'm trying to run PJ64 with all the default settings (as recommended in the help file).
However, I still get laggy gameplay, even with all other apps closed down and playing a fairly simple game (Harvest Moon 64).
I know it's not my system, because when I turn "Limit FPS" off then it runs VERY fast; even when "Limit FPS" is on, it remains at a steady 60 or 59 fps, and yet the gameplay is somewhat laggy--not very smooth.
Does anyone know what could cause this, and if there is any way to force PJ64 to use more system resources?
thanks,
jonathan

do you mean the controls are lagging, ie there's a delay between pressing a button and something happening in a game? you could try a different control plugin

no... the display is laggy. I do stuff and it seems as if my CPU isn't fast enough, i.e. the graphics are jerky etc. EXCEPT that when I turn off "Limit FPS" then it runs perfectly--but too fast.
btw, what is FSAA?

FSAA is Full Scene Anti-Alising, and makes 'jaggies' appear smoother by shading pixels either side of the jaggy line. It takes much more graphics power, and it may be what's slowing you up. To make sure it's off, go to display properties--settings tab--advanced button--tab marked with your video card name--aditional properties button--3D Antialising tab. There are two options - Let apps manage FSAA, or force an FSAA mode. Choose force FSAA, and set the slider to 'off'. If there's no FSAA tab, then your drivers don't support FSAA, so it's off. I don't remember if the MX supports it...i think it does though.

he already has sync audio off. I don't know about this game but you can try turning ABL off and setting CF to 1.
