View Full Version : shots of vid plug issues
Smiff
February 19th, 2002, 01:23
Thought it might be nice to have some pictures of bugs in the v1.4 video plugin to go along with the descriptions of problems in PJgameFAQ. Would anyone like to submit some pics? If you do, please:
1) set windowed resolution to 640x480
2) find bug
3) check your video card is not causing the problem by comparing with Reference Rastizer (video plugin, display tab).
4) press ALT+PRTSCN
5) paste into paint program
6) save as .jpg, medium-high quality
7) give .jpg suitable name
8) attach .jpg to this thread :)
Thanks :) Any Qs just ask.
these are not game specific vid plug issues (http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2917)
there's gonna have to be some more rules ehehe sorry ;)
1) only 1 shot per game issue please, check thread before posting
2) if a whole series of games is affected, please give only 1 shot, and write names of all games with same problem (e.g. ISS series, title screens)
3) no general plugin limitations e.g. near clipping plane, sprite alpha blending. I might explain these better so people know what I mean.
4) nothing that can be fixed through configuration
I'll have to moderate the thread a bit to keep it accurate for people reading.. don't be offended if one of your posts dissappears!

Yes, are they the set of drivers Nvidia removed from their site due to the lack of quality? But even if they are the cause of some graphical errors, I have been getting the same errors with the reference(RGB emulation), sometimes even worse. And for Castlevania, it is a fifty-fifty split between scrambled and non scrambled.
Smiff
February 22nd, 2002, 01:32
RGB emulation is _not_ reference rasterizer, Reference Rasterizer is reference rasterizer.

not quite sure what you're getting at hotshitu.. people don't have to use Reference Rasterizer for pics they post in this thread, i just want them to be sure that what they're posting _is_ a plugin fault.
Remote
February 23rd, 2002, 23:36
It plays pretty well with the CPU and RSP cores set to interpreter, CF set to 6 and larger compiler buffer enabled. For a while it showed me correct menus, but then I reseted it to see if the intro was ok and it went back to black. It appears to be a problem with the video buffer writing to the screen. If you click on options and configure graphic plugin and then move the dialog box around rapidly you will see the entire game.
Remote
February 23rd, 2002, 23:57
This game should work flawlessy, even intro, as long as the expansion pack in enabled a long with force normal blending.
Look familiar... press start...
Smiff
February 24th, 2002, 00:03
heh... i agree with F-3582 as a solution, and not with Remote.. you dont need interpreters and using Exp Pak and Normal Blending doesnt help me in the game, only the intro.
Smiff
February 24th, 2002, 00:21
yes but.. what matters is finding the easiest way to play the game... what would say is the easiest settings+actions to recommend?
F-3582
February 24th, 2002, 00:30
I think that I should mention a few things:
In some stages the screen turns black again (e.g. at the 2nd boss of GreenGarden or in the entire Snow-Land).
Maybe Remote's suggestion is a solution of some of those problems...???
Remote
February 24th, 2002, 00:53
The easiest solution would be to press start, since the intro really is not that important, but as F-3582 said force normal blending is required at some points in the game, i.e the Snow Land. I am not sure what exact settings that gives the best solution, however force normal blending removes the blackness. For menu items, where the background does not appear, larger compiler buffer and / or CPU core set to interpreter and / or expansion pak set to enabled could be the solution.

OK, I've tested "Force Normal Blending":
- You still have to press START at the same time as before
- the Snow-World-blackscreen is fixed (also in the game - THXXXXXXXXX Remote :colgate: )
- the Green-Garden-Problem is not fixed :pissed:

If you want to test it, it's just in the beginning of the game. Just play the game till the level 3 or level 4 of the Dungeon, you should see this screen. After this screen, the PJ64 program FREEZE. If you can get pass this screen, means something wrong with my PC.

Enable "Copy DList" in the Framebuffer Section of your Video Plugin (Configure->Advanced->Framebuffer Emulation). I don't like the current framebuffer emulation, because it makes the fps decrease rapidly (on my system :()...

wow, that worked splendedly. Too bad I was already taxing the cpu with other stuff, cause I was averaging about 30 fps.

That's a known issue. You need to set the frame buffer to Copy Buffers or DLists to get it right.
A point to Smiff too: Megaman64's black walls can be solved by enabling Force Normal Blending. Stuff tends to get transparent, but it's apparently better than the alternative. Just remember to disable it outside dungeons or it will have a negative effect.

Project64 is not discontinued.
It is actually continued by the cheat team and beta #2 actually runs it. However, no word on when it will come out yet.

OK, the green trail coming from the guy in the cape is meant to be a single object. And also the black ring around the player is supposed to be white. The attack I used then was the level 1 wind cutter. As well as this the fireball attack doesn't draw properly, it just shows 4 red dots.
Sorry I cant help much more, its hard to describe what its supposed to look like.
