pj64 v1.6 fullscreen borders help

hi
was wondering if it was possible to get a full screen
display on ver 1.6 default plugins , as when playin
f zero x i get a black border around the full display.
i have tryed changing the v/h size ratio but all it does
is stretch the image right and down , tho the borders still
stay on the left and top of the screen.
i have also noticed that using advanced tab/d3d pipeline
takes these borders away but at the cost of graphic bugs
on the subscreens of the game.i would love to have a full screen
display on fzero and other games like this.

my display settings are 800x600 32 60hz

i hope somone can help . .. thanx

Try getting Direct64 (plugins forum) and checking the simulate overscan box.

problem that i would love to fix
if possible , if not then fair enough.
tho thanx for the reply.

The simple response is... There is no border problem since a TV would normally cut off those edges. If you do not wish to use Orkin's plugin then you're left with a only a handful of options.

There *may* be some software for adjusting the geometry of the resolution you are using OR you would have to manually adjust the monitor's geometry (using the controls on the monitor) to compensate for it.

Short of those two options there really isnt a 'perfect' alternate choice. Orkin's plugin isnt exactly error free, I believe he has stated the Simulate Overscan option may cause graphical anomalies in certain situations... Not too sure on this but I do recall him talking about it.

thanx for that info , tho i am infact using tv out
for my emulation / pc usage and the borders are
sertainly there on both 640x480 / and 800x600
resolutions.and the fact that other plugins have
overscan doesnt really mean anything to me as
they are not jabbo's great plugin.its just really
sad that there is no way of moving the image
left and up as to fit in possition before applying
the ratio setting , right and down as this would
be perfect in this situation.the other thing is that
using the d3d pipeline in advanced tab actuly
gives full screen and runs great shows that this
is something that can be worked on , with the
only problem being sub menus being out of line
with everything else.i really hope there is an
update to jabbo's plug in at some point even tho
im sure there would be a few other easy methods
of getting the complete screen covered.and like
i sayed before , this is not a harrowing real problem
but more of a finnishing touch to such a great
emulator that i can wait it out and keep hoping
that some day my prayer will be answered.

thanx

and a great big thank you to the pj64 team
for making me appreciate n64 time after time.

You shouldn't just shrug off all the other plugins like that. While I admit that Jabo's D3D8 is one of the best plugins, Direct64 can emulate F-Zero X just as perfectly as Jabo's can.

Indeed, do not limit yourself to one plugin if your system can handle more. No plugin is good enough to warrant doing that. Direct64 will eliminate those borders and look just as good.

i have a solution that is probably the best in your case. i also do not choose to use any other plugin, although i do have them all, i pretty much dont need them with the exception of rices for less than a handfull of games. MY solution is this. my monitor remembers my screen size settings for each resolution, as do most monitors. so i just have 2 different resolutions i use for project 64. for games that run in fullscreen mode without the border, i use 1280x1024 resolution, and for the ones that DO use the border, i use 1024x768 and i have the screen stretched out to make the borders off of the screen. and since the monitor remembers the settings of each resolution, all u have to do is use the bordered games with one resolution that you had already stretched out for those games, and use a different resolution for the ones that dont have the border. its pretty simple really, and not much of a hassle. just a matter of switching the resolutions in the grafx plugin.

aye the monitor idea is what i used to do about a year ago
with older emulators.i have tho moved on to tv out on my
pc and so can only have ither 640z480 or 800x600 rez and
i cant change the screen size through the tv , tho thanx
for the info.now about other plugins .. lol i am an old timer
when it comes to emulation and i have every plugin known
and i have came to the conclusion about a month ago that rice
and jabbo plugins on pj64 / ver 1.5 were of the best set up
using jabbo for most games and rice for a few of the not compatible
roms on the n64.since trying about 220 roms on the new version of
pj64 and also trying out rice new plugin with hi res textures
i am quite happy to use jabbo d3d as my main plugin and rice
as an after thought as jabbos plugin is so much more complete now
and seens to get most / well all the roms i actuly play running great
and looking better than they ever did.and as for the direct64 plugin
well .... its really quite crap on my system as i cant get full screen
at all never mind taking out borders with the overscan option.
i have tryed redownloading and its still the same and i think this
is due to my graphics card as i get various shader errors when i try
anything on this plug in .... and games just look garbled and not the
way they should be.

here is my specs ...

2800xp athlon
512 mem / 2700
150 gig maxtor / 120 gig maxtor
sparkle geforce 4 ti 4600 128 agp x4

thanx for the post guys .

I'm not sure about current NVIDIA drivers but I know with ATI drivers you can adjust the overscan on your video out. See if there is an option in your advanced display settings and if not update to your latest video drivers and see if they have them.

Yeah, Direct64 is crap on stuff without Pixel Shader 2.0 or later. I don't think there is another plugin that can do this (maybe Jabo's emulated width), so I guess you're stuck.

i solved the problem at last !
using a small fre program called tv tool
that allows ratio stretch on a tv.
the program offers quite a few other options
like screen ballance and dual support.
i think this program was made for nvidia
users as radeon drivers have simalure functions.
it means i can have pal or ntsc display and then
have the abillity to take the borders away with
overscan.

thanx for all the posts and i hope this info
will help others that had the same problem
as me.
