First of:
Hi, I'm new to this forums. I hope, no one will somehow punish me for what I'm doing and stuff ;) (And I'm from Germany so excuse my "maybe not so right" English)

On to the sense of this thread:
I resized some of the textures in Banjo-Kazooie.
It was a really pain in the ass of making and I don't even think that I made a really excellent job.
I mean, Banjo-Kazooie probably has the best Textures I ever saw in a game on the N64, so why retexture it?
Answer: 'Coz I don't know what I should do in the times I'm bored :P
Yeah, so...I'm not a man of words, so I let pictures speak :)

Oh one last word: There are not yet many textures remade (perhaps about 90 or so from about over *don't know* 10000?) and they're not made in a specific order.
Just picked some textures at totally random and then remade them ^^"
And you will need 7zip to extract the textures!

Great work,
Did you both resize _rgb and _a in the same size (and not over 4x the original) and save them in the original color format, sometimes some programs automaticaly save black and white images in 2bit format. duplication can cause it to.

I did so for the FadeOuts but not for the rest (e.g. for the fences in Grunty's Lair at Mumbo's Mountain entrance I just resized the _all texture but left the _rgb and _a as they were.

OK, on to v0.02:
Grunty's Lair Entrance (including the Entrance Hall to Mumbo's Mountain) is completely retextured :)
I even tried that red flower to resize but...naww, you can see it in the Pak ^^"
Download is available in my first post ;)

BTW: New pictures:

OK, here is my first attempt in making a completely new texture instead of just resizing it and put some kind of detail on it :)
Hope you like it
Please leave some comments, k? ;)

The bridge may need a darker color, in my opinion it looks too bright, but other than that....man, those textures rock!

I like the details on the rocks :)
For real now? I somehow don't like them, 'cause they're the same on every rock

Whatever, I darkened the bridge texture a little and I think it must be right now:

Thanks ^_^

And once more I mention my problem which I already posted at post #1:

Does somebody know how to resize the font? I tried it with the letter "K" and when I tried out, the K was still in its old size of 9x13 pixels. Could someone help me with this?
I really need help with this since it really doesn't work for whatever reason.

EDIT: Whoa boy, I'm stupid...next time I'll use the right reslution (it was actually 9x12 not 9x13 pixels <.< )
Problem solved.

This is one of the hi-res projects I'm looking forward to most!
This game already had some great textures, but the work you're putting on it is awesome!
Way to go V-king!

Ok another one who likes my work, that's cool ^^

But hey: Don't think that bad comments would hurt me. In fact they wouldn't. They would keeping me on making these textures even more better and stuff.

Anyways I wanted to say something:

sb_nac0 contacted me via PN and sent me some of his work in retexturing B-K.
I looked at it and thought it was amazing (not everything, but the most of the textures he sent me looked really awesome and, imo, even better than mine.)

So for the future he will help me finishing this retexturing project. Therefore this Pak is now mine AND sb_nac0's B-K retexture pak.

And: v0.03 will be out as soon as I finished Mumbo's Mountain (+ inside of Termite Hill and inside of Mumbo's Hut).
I can't say when it's done exactly, but I think it could be on Friday this week.

Wheee, 1000 views, making this topic a hot topic \o\

It's a nice birthday present for me (OMG 19, so old...) ^^

HAPPY BIRTHDAY V-KING!!!
Umm...you want us to say the bad aspects of your textures?
Can't say many thought...
But I specially like the details on the ground textures (the ones near the entrance to Mumbo's Mountain really fit in there, giving it some kind of mixtures between rocks and grass)

Anyway it would be good to write in English since this forum is in english and stuff ^^

OK, I just wanted to say something:
Sorry I didn't release the update on Friday.
I'm not good in saying something forth. So I think the release date for any updates in the future will be:
When it's done (since I'vebeen a little busy the last days and haven't been able to make anything for the textures. But that's a different story ^^")

So...expect a v0.03 anytime in the next few...decades...or so...

I'm sorry, but I had to revive this topic...I just find it one of the best works out there, and I really liked it. But looks like it's already dead, isn't it V-King?

It's not really dead.
It's more or less...on ice.
I'm atm extremely busy in school (exams and stuff) so I have nearly no time. I'm also working on an RPG made on the RPG Maker 2k which takes a lot of time too (I'm making my own music for it. I think that says more than 1000 words ;) )

I don't know, when I already finish this damn update (I still have to do the inside of termite hill and Mubmo's Hut (both in Mumbo's Mountain)).
Perhaps I'll release a new version in a few days which does NOT contain said areas.
But don't expect anything in the next days.

Sorry guys to let you wait so long :(

Wow, I love RPGs, good luck on your project! :)

Back to the topic, I think most people are busy studying, working, etc. so don't worry about it. I'm very busy now too, so I know how you feel. :(

Btw, it's nice to know that you're still working in the retexturing project (your progress is wonderful), and retexturing BK is a big challenge due to the huge amount of textures used in the game, so thanks for taking the challenge for this great game, take your time :)

Codexing
May 6th, 2005, 17:12
You're doing an RPG with RPG Maker 2k? Why don't you use RPG maker XP instead? I'ts so much better than the others! It has much better graphics and it supports different sound types too. I did a demo of a game myself with RPG Maker 2003 and once XP was realeased I re-started it again with the new graphics and all.
Maybe you won't like the battle system...it's so....different, but it also lets you create other battle types.
If you learn the script it uses you may then attempt to create your own battle system and all, but I find it way too complicated for me.

As for the demo, I'd release it here, but it's in spanish so...

But that was all off-topic, sry

I look forward to see any additions when you get the time. Good work, a tough game to do.

Off topic: I remember using RPG Maker before, it was pretty cool but making an RPG can take a lifetime. Any of you know of a similar program for making horizontal/vertical shooters?

heh i see 7zip has been getting a lot more popular. after taking a 900meg movie of mine and turning it into a 400 meg file i was pretty impressed.

I have yet to fully understand how to get maximum compression out of it but it definitely works wonders. I have all version of Mario Kart 64 rom in 1 10mb 7zip file. No idea how that works, I think the unzipped size is 200+mb. I assume it finds similarities between them to shrink the size more or something.

Toasty
May 9th, 2005, 21:31
I assume it finds similarities between them to shrink the size more or something. That it does.:) Since all the ROM versions only have a few key differences for the most part, this type of compression is very effective.

koolkarts, are you trying to revive all the old threads?

V-King
September 15th, 2005, 14:56
Yes, from today it is officially dead.
I decided to give up on this huge project. It is rather too much and too hard for me.

Here's the last update from me.
Mumbo's Mountain is almost done. If anyone wants to continue this project, then he or she may do so. I probably won't start this project again. Sorry.

September 16th, 2005, 20:50
Man, no one wants to continue this? :( I'd do it myself but I have no artistic skill what-so-ever. This was a good game too.

macphisto
September 18th, 2006, 04:43
Well, I've wanted to retexture this myself and have already started. It's a mammoth task, though. I've already made some interesting progress and will post up pics when I get the first outdoor section almost completly done and when I'm satisified. In the meantime, here are a few of what's been done so far.

A promising start. Banjo-Kazooie is one of those games that benefits most from a retexture as it used some decent texturing to begin with (given the limitations the developers had).

It's starting to all fit together on that section. The cliff walls are almost done, save for a few niggling textures that I've yet to find in the dump folder. The grass I've yet to find, but it's progressing along at a good rate. I might post the first texture pack next week when I've enough done so that I can get some better feedback. These textures are up for improvement if anyone else wishes to do so. Thanks.
