The latest news we know about Chankast is what Garrofi posted in this> http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=25075&highlight=Garrofi thread
We do not know anything else on the status of the emulator, and if/when it will be released. Please keep everything about wanting Chankast news in this single thread - also please try to keep a sense of decorum. Mindless flaming is not welcome on this site.
Remember Emutalk has nothing to do with Chankast other than hosting the Official English forums.

And no haz, unfortunately none of us (AFAIK) are in contact with the developers. I am as much in the dark about the status of a new version as you.

Hi, it's been a long time since I entered in emutalk, I didn't know about this thread :satisfied. Here's a little news from Chankast.
At Talfi.net (http://www.talfi.net) (it's a spanish site) we can read a summary (http://www.talfi.net/e107/forum_viewtopic.php?52.8572.0) about the party MadriSX, which took place in Madrid (Spain) early this month. Well, it seems that at the party they talked with Unai, who showed them a little sneak peek at the current status of Chankast.
It isn't much but at least is something... So far we know that there is a special version of Chankast for coders, which can run on a Pentium 3 and that it has some new features such as FastMem Mapping (http://www.talfi.net/e107/e107_files/public/chankastfastmem.gif) (I don't know what is it's purpose, they don't explain it). Also, it seems that Garrofi has been a bit away from the project lately.
There isn't any news on the XBOX version...
Sorry for my BAAAAD english...

Wait a minute ! Any chankast version can run on P3/Celeron Coppermine/Tualatin
Johann
March 27th, 2005, 03:38
Maybe he means that it runs at an almost decent speed or something like that (remember those rumours about that they wanted to make chankast run on a P3 700Mhz at almost full speed?)

Fast Memory mapping is a technique that requires more efficient code and offers better perfornace. It basically caches (temporarily stores) in ram, and takes some load off the cpu.
For more details read here:

W00t, an extension of the last news :)
In a flame topic ( :ranting: ) over at Emulatronia's forum (http://www.emulatronia.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=4249841f7588ffff;act=ST; f=11;t=3296;st=30) (Chankast's spanish forum), Ron (betatester and close friend of Unai, and also co-webmaster of Talfi.net) has confirmed that current version of Chankast runs fine on a Pentium 3 @ 700Mhz. He explains that in overall the emu is faster, more compatible with KOS (KallistiOS maybe?) and homebrew apps (for those programmers that doesn't have a DC), and has a better handling of the graphics. Also, he says that it has some new features (unreveiled) and that now it boots bynaries and isos (no more daemon tools! :P).
About the XBOX version, he just says that it runs fine. :bunny:

I can't wait till Ikaruga & Shenmue 2 are fully supported. 2 of the best games ever created ;) So far the emulator seems to be developing well, they were able to achieve a lot in such a short time, so the next version when it's released I'm sure will be more compatible and have more features ;)
Here's hoping they release a new version soon, if not well, we just have to be patient.

Alright, I am as patient as the next guy but this is just rediculas. I mean I have no problem at all waiting for the next release because I think what they have done is amazing. I mean 3 releases in just 2 months with outstanding compatibility is amazing. But then to just go quit and not say anything for 5 months( Garrofi post in December 13th, 2004), then to not have any single shred of new or update since. Cant any of the dev just drop a 1 sentence reply letting us know whats going on. Like a simple, " Worked on emu today, made some progress." or "coming close to releasing an release date". Just something to keep the countless people in the loop. I mean take 2 minuites of your time to just update everyone.

July 6th, 2005, 03:27
with the constant requests for donationas from the chanka team, im guessing they thought the emu would make them rich, and having not received the required amount of donations, the can't be bothered working on it anymore.

hi all ..
i think chanka came along at the right time , just after everyone
had stoped searching for a dc emu and gave up , then out of the
blue chanka appeared and claimed to actually run a dc game , (yeh right)
and to all our amazment it didnt just run a dc game/iso past the bios
screen , at like 5fps , it did indeed run games to a high quality and
run more than just 1 title as well , it then sparked off the dc scene
and all us dreamcast fans became happy once more.
then to everyones suprise a new version came out soon after the 1st
with greater compatibility / faster / and better looking , this was
to us all , a team of devs that wanted perfection and wanted it yesterday,
and to all intent and purpose they were out to impress the entire
emulation scene by doing such a great work of art as well as a programing
1st for all to see.
then after a year of near silence we are all in a way sad at the fact
we know next to nothing of the emulator called chanka , it makes me
sad to think that it could be possible sega might have somthing to do
with the missing chanka updates , as i have seen this happen with the
saturn girl girl/emulator back years ago.i dont want to worrie the fans
of such a great emulator but this is a possibility as im sure the chanka
emu would not be doing sega any favours in terms of bringing out
dreamcast titles on pc/xbox/ps2 and gamecube and i hope my fears
and nothing to worrie about , tho one thing i do recall is that , had the
saturn girl girl team released source code to the emulator , im sure
the saturn emulation would be much more complete and there would be
no call for hacks of an old half finnished emulator that still stands out
best even today.
so , i cant help feeling that in some way i have been teased by the
chanka team , tho i will always remember the moment i 1st booted up
metropilis street racer with sheer amazment , but if the chanka team
are still developing the emulator and are waiting till they get it just
right before showing the world then great , take as long as you want
but let us know somthing at least once a year , but if you as a team
have lost the desire to continue with development of chanka cant
you at least let us all know were we stand and if going to chanka.org
every day is a waste of time as its the 1st page i open every day
only to be sad for the rest of that day and this is true.
and if the dev team no longer wish to continue with chanka then
cant the source be handed to a few choice developers that can take
such a great emulator to the next level , we all love you the chanka team
and will always remember you for showing us dreamcast on the pc
i just hope you guys are happy with what you have acheived and
continue to amaze the emulation scene , but above all you are part of
history and cant ever be forgoten.
( that pair of sandles will haunt my sleep for months to come im sure )

ok im a bit excited , iv been doing the rounds checking all my usual
emulation web sites for updates and whats new and whats not ,
anyway ... i decided to go and listen to ( 1emulation.com ) emulation
radio station to here the dev guys talk about what progress they
are currently making on emulation and ( zezo ) was interviewed and
was talking about icirus emu and also chanka and his involvment
with these emulators.at the end of the interview he stated that he
helped with the recompiler and power vr for chanka , the exciting part
is that he said he was working on another secret project , and didnt
state what this project was but did say it was to do with the same
hardware as before / ala dreamcast/ and that it already has a recompiler
his words were ( it would emulate the same hardware and a bit more )
and by the sounds of it this project would possibly run better than chankast.
please do not take my words literly , listen to the interview yourselfs
and see what you think , its about 10 minz into the program.

Well, you have to have beta-testers for these emulators (assuming the author doesn't have his own wide selection of PCs to test on), hell, there's probably quite a lot of emus that are privately tested (Icarus - apparently - and FreeDO, to name but two), and those beta-testers are not allowed / not going to say anything about it to anyone. Hardly rocket science to assume something like that =P

I have copies of later alpha versions than officially posted on the website, I know they are later because in the dialog boxes it states the system requirements are lower. The only problem is that the emulator is in Spanish, and I was thinking maybe someone could make a translation to English. Anyway, I could upload it here, or elsewhere and provide a link. I would always suggest a virus scan, though I've scanned it myself and ran it with no problem. Also I need to make sure this isn't something that I would get in trouble for in the forum. If a mod responds and suggests I not distribute it, or an author of chankast responds suggesting no distribution, then I won't. Either way I'd make sure the emulator was clean (no bios, games, etc.) before distributing it. I'm just looking for input and/or suggestions. Also I wasn't sure if this would qualify as a seperate thread which is why I added it to this one.

My bad, sorry to get anyones hope up if I did . . . it's the lame reshack. I hope they release a new version soon. Their emulator is great, I just have a 1.5ghz processor and it requires 1.6ghz. It runs, but I get around 50fps, playable, but I wish it was full speed on my comp. Anyway, sorry again about that. I was excited as I thought it was a legit alpha/beta of a newer version.

August 27th, 2005, 12:44
Even if it would have been a legit alpha you should know better. You should not distribute leaked software UNLESS the authors themselves tells you it's ok (but then it probably wouldn't be "leaked" now would it?)

AFAIK, for a plethora of reasons, starting from the usual "fending off warez kiddies for a while" to the "no point in an endless stream of minor releases". And believe me, I know what I'm talking about...
Indeed, it's strange that we heard nothing from garrofi and unai, although the former could be currently taking part to the development of Commandos 4 @ Pyro Studios *drools* Yet again, some testers are at least allowed to confirm that development is still continuing without giving out particulars, others simply aren't. It's all about authors' choices and nothing else.
