View Full Version : Why must you vote for ROM sites???

Why do ROM sites make you vote for sites (three times!). I mean, like, I hate having to do it... the only ROMs you actually 'need' to do it for are the newer systems though (psx, ps2, n64, xbox), but it always tells me "the severs down" or something... whats up with that also?

LOL because they are scam sites and every vote makes them money.Many fake sites do this.

March 6th, 2005, 08:28
Well, like, I don't pay anything to them and the ROMs that they upload work, so there not really "scamming" anyone are they?

If you don't like it, go search them somewhere else.

Every click (vote) installs an additional 17 spyware apps on your system.

Hahaha, from my experience those sites are completely clean and legit. I've never had a problem with spyware or any of that scum, maggot, invasion of my privacy crap, from those sites. Infact, I've had nothing but good experiences from their communities and easy to use ROM robbing interface. (um, of course, I only d/l the ROMs of games that I own... for backup, heh)

if you still think that, 99% of those site are simply fake shit, they just need you to get there, then click a bunch of ads, they get a little $ for each clicks you do, thing that makes them get money, to keep them up and get some (or a lot) of profit, then get more people to go on their site, and increase the clicks rate, and get more money and shit. If you still think those are clean and legit, then go there only if you need to look for porn stuff or other crap to buy.

hehe, maybe...

There are far better ways to acquire one's contraband though. No voting necessary. :whistling

you only <i>need</i> to vote for getting n64, PSx, PS2, ect. games, which I never get from there anyway. But its startin' to become slim pickins out there on the net when it comes to copyright materials... The major torrent sites that I knew about are almost all gone... and the ones that are up usually end up having trackers that are down.
Pretty soon the FDA (I think thats the organization I'm thinkin' of: They have jurisdiction over various media systems like TV broadcasts, advertising?) is going to be governing the internet, making it a bloody police state. I mean, the internet is an awesome incarnation of the right of free speech, the right to share ideas (heh, and files), and the right to be disturbingly perverted... all rolled into one! (I'm not one of the perverted people out there, but there are MANY... horse sex video's???? wtf is the matter with some people?!) If we allow government imperializm into every facet of our lives like we are doing (by not being proactive against it) then we will become no better than a shitty communist society.
I mean, democracy is already a sham as it is; case and point >> I'm absolutely positive that I wont get to vote on social security reform, but its still gonna happen and totally screw anyone under 40. Like, I have enough to worry about with my life already, with bills and everything, but now I'm going to have to invest in shit and have the possibility of no return???

Anyway, I'd like to preach more, but I just remembered this is a emulator forum, and I've just been ranting, so I'll stop now lol... but seriously, we have a right to share files, get our opinions taken seriously, and show friends the sickest shit ever to be put in digital format (quiver)

Speaking of voting -

Europeans: vote for the UK in the upcoming Eurovision Song Content. You know you want to even if our song is crap, just to shut up Wogan for once. ;)

I believe you mean FCC (Federal Communications Commission) instead of FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Yeah, they're doing some weird stuff in the USA lately, shame... it used to be a nice place to live.:P *packs bags* There are still lots of places online to get emulation stuff, they just manage to stay under the radar of popularity and "n00bs" so they can stay online a bit longer than other sites.

be normal, buy the real product and dump it. never distribute.

March 8th, 2005, 04:53
Right, FCC is what I'm thinkin of, I just moved to the 'States actually... of course I move when everyones getting whored out here.
As for you, dogdogwoof, wtf are you doing in an EmuTalk forum if your telling me to go out and buy the game and not distribute? I mean, this is an emulation forum dedicated to the art of emulation you realize. And when the people who buy games and ROMafy it for other people to enjoy, they are highly respected members of the community... plus, file sharing is one of the greatest innovations of our time.
"Never distribute".... blach! Don't give me that crap you commie.

Oh yeah, I've changed the names of the ISO's that had spammy names and they still work, so I'm happy now.

Typical damn american. If they aren't from there, they are commie! Communism isn't bad, they just want you to think that.

Man, I was calling people 'commie' back when I was living in an igloo and playing hockey, damn. Typical American, eh? I moved here only like, 4 months ago.

As for communism, well, screw communism, what do you mean it isn't bad? Its pretty much a bloody despositizm, only with a little makeup and a boob job. I hardly have any say in what the government does as it is, I couldn't imagine living in some communist country with food rations and the "everyone is equal but some people are more equal than others" (Quote from Animal Farm) attitude. It is certainly a great idea, and more power to the Che Guevara's out there, but I mean, it dosen't work well in an imperfect world. I suppose in some cases it has worked, but 'Utopia' will never be achieved.

Russia is a probably the best example, I mean, it used to be a great empire way back in the day (well, the Tzar purged its people like a hoe still but), then when the going got tough they had a revolution that ended up colapsing the very foundations of its great country. Communism sucks, and if it was the '60s, you'd get your commie sympathising ass torn up by the CIA.

Oh yeah, didn't Stalin screw you guys in WW2? I mean, he sold you out to the anti-christ (hitler) man! Thats what you get for putting your faith in 'communism'. All it takes is one screwy leader to crumble the world.

I got something to add to why ROM sites make you vote
First, it gives them popularity and money
Second, your computer gets infected with Spyware/Adware and they laugh at you
Third, they give links to porn sites which are supposed to lure you to viruses

Haha, I like your thinking, I'm exactly the same way... always suspicious of the internet, always thinking before clicking.

So what I did was I got a shitty computer (for free) and I tested these ROM sites out... various emulators, ect. I didn't even have a firewall on that badboy. Anyway the computer was clean, I was once again in awe of human ingenuidy (Super Nintendo?? ANYGAME??? On my useless crapheap computer!?!?!), and all was well again in the forest. Of course, I only kept the games I own...

Cast your paranoid delusions aside fellow emulatorer. These places are a treasure cove of great accomplishments in gaming history.

...one day perhaps the IDSA or the FCC will shut them down... `*click**click**evil giggle :evil: *

I pisses me off when (ROM) websites ask you vote, I always just ended up not voting for them. Whenever it says "Please vote to keep our site going" or "Click on the link to our sponsor, blah, blah, blah." Well, the heck with that. I just BS the vote and, well, you know the rest. Voting on the internet usually screws up the Windows registry and then some.

PS - Disavow anything I said about ROMs, etc., etc.

if you know how to browse properly you wont need to vote.

Usually you can just open the source and find what the 'Enter' button leads to, or whatever

That is true about spywares/adwares. I had tons of them. And I always get hentai link, but I never get roms what I want ...

It would be funny to make a ROM site that had Gay Porn popup when you click download and then a message that says "Please look at this gay porn for 10 minutes and then your download will start".

thats a really good idea to check the source to see where "Enter" leads to... I wish I knew exactly how to do that... what would the html look like?

(Hope nobody minds me posting in an old thread... it's still on page 1. :P)

Whenever I go to a ROM site, I see one of the following:
-Crappy 'vote a zillion times and download' script.
-Same, but it just leads back to the same page or tells you you did it wrong.
-The server is dead.
-The site's been shut down, but they still have everything except the actual ROMs up to get hits. <_<
-Fake 'vote or download will be corrupt' script that doesn't actually do anything.

Finding ROMs is a pain, thank God for BitTorrent. ;) But with those scripts that try to force you to vote before you can enter, it's so damn easy to bypass them. :p You just need to look at the script a little, usually you'll see something like this:

if(vote1 == true && vote2 == true && vote3 == true)
window.location = "some URL";
else
alert("VOTE PLZ");
Not hard to figure out. Hell, 90% of them are just the same code copied from other sites, without any changes except the URL (I saw a few with NO changes, so they'd vote for the wrong site XD), and crappy code in general. In the rare case that they do encrypt the URL it's just a matter of copying the code into a file, getting rid of the rest of the code and rigging it to decrypt into a text box instead of window.location. Another lesson in how worthless JS encryption is. :) (Of course some only link to an error message even if you really do vote, claiming that you did it wrong or some such, or use some super-obscure triple encryption that, while not especially difficult to crack, isn't worth bothering. Just keep searching.)
