There are lots of different texture packs for the same game being created (SUPER MARIO 64 especially). I've decided to link only to the most popular/complete packs.

Important notes

Texture packs created for a specific version of a game may not work for other versions of the same game.
(ie: Texture packs created for "Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.0) [!]" may not work with "Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.1) [!]" and/or "Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (E) (V1.0) [!]").

Remember to verify your ROMS and mention their goodN64 name when uploading or asking for a texture pack.

My textures work in Legend of Zelda 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, E, U and Master Quest.

Only in MQ there are some small changes. And some more textures in the E version such as the language selection screen

How do I insert the High Res Textures into the Roms? I thought I would find the info here, since it says "Tutorials".

Just place the folder in which all of the textures are in into your emulator's plugin folder. Make sure you're using Rice Video 6.1.0c also.

I came here looking for a tutorial and there isn't one. I just need to know where to place the plug-in so it works. I put it in the plug-in folder for PJ64 and that didn't do anything. Someone please help.

You just select a different plugin in the "Settings" menu of PJ64, or the "change plugins" menu of 1964. Select Rice's beta10 from the menu. Then, activate hires textures before you go into the game via the checkbox in Rice's plugin settings. Wha-la! Almost instant hires textures!

How do I make a texture pack? I've tried, but it won't load in my textures. I'm keeping the correct name, and it's in the correct folder, PAPER MARIO. Do I have to put it in a sub-folder or what?

I cant get the textures to work. I am using 1964 with rice 6.1.0, Hi res textures enabled, my path to the texture file is: Files\1964\plugin\hires_texture\MARIOKAR T64
I don't know what I did wrong.

well, if your folder is spelled like that, it won't load. Remove the space in kart

albinolove

spelled it wrong. There is actually no space in it.

Googol
December 1st, 2005, 10:38
Well, some versions of Mario Kart 64 have the internal name of "Mario Kart 64". If that's the case, add the spaces. It should work then.
I believe that also means that the rom is bad, though... try scanning your roms with GoodN64.

Any hints on the best options for altering the textures once you got em in an editor folks? I got bored & tried playing with it earlier but I didnt really know what I was doing to get nice lookin high res stuff. A quick blow up to twice the size & sharpen it didnt yield too much.

I'm urging to start my own re-creation of the outside castle of Super Mario 64 with a Super Mario Sunshine style but the problem is that I don't get the idea of creating different textures. Can someone place an in-depth tutorial on how to make your own textures. I know there is the tutorial with the new rice plugin but I need one that can go into better detail and understanding. I have photoshop to create some PNG's just need to know where to place them.

If anyone could do this it would be a BIIIIIIIGGGGG help for me to start on some textures. I have some really good ideas and all I need is a good explanation.

I might make a basic tutorial of how the retexturing procedure goes. (ie: how to dump them, naming them, ect) I could touch on the actual technique when it comes to retexturing, but I'll leave a more in depth guide for the pros to make q:

I also use the dodge and burn tool to recreate any shadows and lighting that were on it originally.

Here's a pic
http://www.webdesign.org/web/photoshop/photoshop-basics/dodge-tool-video-included.6386.html
and to get the burn tool, right click on the dodge tool icon and you should be able to change it to the burn tool.
Also there's 3 different types of shading/lightening that you can do. Highlights, Midtones, and Shadows. I pretty much just experiment with them til I find which one looks best for whatever I'm doing.
And yea no prob ^^.

well i mean retexturing takes a long time.. also there could be a hell of alot of frames cause you go around alot of buildings, etc. so you have to make a frame for every side, etc..
might take a long time, but if you want go for it...

Hello. I recently only found out that these mods were being made for Mario 64 after recenltly going back to the game on my PC with an emulator. I downloaded the texture packs but I can't get them to work. I know this question has been asked time and time again, but I've come to be completly stuck after a few hours of trying. My problem may be a stupid one and I may have overlooked something simple, but after installing Rice's graphics plugin and turning it on, I found that it doesn't show the two extra options that are needed to activate the hi res under the texture filter button. Load and dump aren't there. What am I doing wrong. Could someone help? I'd really like to get this game running with these new textures.

Edit - no worries. I sorted it out myself. The game looks superb! Great work!

How do you enable high texture? I read everything on this forum and still can't find anything. How do I know if the texture are loaded?

Check 'Load high resolution textures if available" in Rice's video plugin configuration window. You might have to uncheck "Hide Advanced Settings" first.

When I will open the "Settings Menue" I get the error that "Rice`s Plugin" is not avalible and I used both emus 1964 AND project 64 both say me the same BUT the plugin IS in the right folder

The textures folder need to be in the Plugin folder, not in the emulator folder. I hope tht the texture pack came with a readme file. If it did, read it.
