I think you can fix the Equipment subscreen being a "pixelated mess" by the framebuffer into write back and reload.

Hm...is there any progress with this mod? Haven't seen anything for a while...just don't give it up...it looks so damn great so far :)
here's some progress on world maps that i've done, i´m working on maps but is difficult, maybe someone can help me with textures from maps (to make it more realistic)

ummm.....you should cut off the trees in the kokiri forest map. They might be more trouble than any other thing because they take too much space

You should put a border into all those maps like you have in the Hyrule field map and make them a bit more transparent.

logo pack (with shadow) finished :)
I did a partial shadow to make more faithfull...
MuhMuh: I'm agree, need people who work on "world" textures... (personaly, i don't have skill and motivation to do that)
Hey guys, I've been having issues working on Mario Kart 64 and am curious how you guys were able to deal with cutting your logos into the strips necessary for putting them in the game and also naming the strips without having to "right-click, rename, copy the name, delete that file and then rename the new file to the name of the file I just deleted." Please let me know because it looks like you guys solved the problem and I haven't been able to find where you discussed the solution.

I'm sure you could make a batch process in photoshop that splits the file in the desired way, and then saves each section with filenames that you've already specified.
EDIT: Actually I think it's done with an action not as a batch process.

really simple :
1) you have a image file (that you want cut) (ex: logo.png)
2) you have a method to cut image to files (ex: logo-0-0.png, logo-1-0.png, ...)
3) create a batch file to rename files (ex: move logo-0-0.png "MARIOKART64#01234567#2#1_all.png")
for the cut method, I can't help you on photoshop... but with The Gimp, you can use some guide and cut with Massicot...

Well, my images are already cut in half via batch-processing a cropping action with Photoshop CS. My problem is now I have a folder full of new images and a folder full of old. When I find the old image I want to replace, I have to go through the process I mentioned in my previous post (otherwise I'd lose track of which ones I've replaced or whatever). I wish I could just drag my new file onto my old one and have it replace it lol. However, it doesn't work that way in windows... maybe linux does though or maybe I'm missing something in Windows. In any case, I'm working on a method involved Dreamweaver in which I align the images and replace them in the same folder they were originally in... Dreamweaver links to the original file if you have it in a project so I can just click on the image I have and find the name so I know what to name the new replacement. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

soniclink, I was thinking that maybe it would be better to alpha the outer parts of the maps out, and leave only the actual map area visible. To me, having that entire square area seems like clutter. It would certainly look cleaner.

You need to make the new texture be in 32bit form.
Using "the gimp" to edit photos you just select layers > transparancy > add alpha channel.
Heres 32bit version:

hey, I'm totally new to any of this so heres my very noooob question, ok ya ready:
So... I'm trying to play the enhanced OoT, I'm able to use the Rice's video plugin 6.1.1b10 as my graphics thingy but how do I use all the texture. The instructions state that i have to:
enable the "Load hi-res textures if available" option under the "Texture Filters" tab in the plugin configuration menu
But
When I go to do this it sais that I cannot edit advance options, why is that.
I've tried looking for the answer but there is just so much reading:, if you help me I'll give you an Ecookie

For 3D graphics, just about all the graphics processing is done in hardware (IE, on the video card), not the CPU, so there's your problem. This is kind of off-topic too BTW and there's a help thread stickied in this section for just this kind of problem.

First of all, you're doing an amazing job, I'm surprised nobody is paying for you to do this work. I ran the texture filter succesfully in Project64, with a little loss on FPS, but it looks great. I noticed, however that the character textures were not changed in the game. You included new textures for Link, a Goron, and Ganondorf, but they are the same in the game. I know they're probably not complete, but this is something i would like to toy around with. Any idea how I could get into editing the character textures?

Greets,
I just got back into n64 emu, and decided to have a go with these textures.
First I'd like to say great job on the textures A++ fast delivery would like to work with again! :P
Now to get down to business, I'm having some problems with it.
When i get start up Zelda OoT, the letters in the SAVE selection are the old fuzzy ones (minor problem). Second thing is that the Start menu really lags when you start it up (bigger problem), and for some reason, even when im outside the backround is the same of my treehouse (rather annoying problem). The last thing is that my equipment selection is all messed up(rather annoying problem). Any help?
Federelli
November 15th, 2005, 15:46
RoycroftSquires (http://www.emutalk.net/../member.php?u=29941), if you check carefully, you'll see that the textures are updated, simply disable them ingame, then enable them, and see.
_sniper_ those letter's are remade, i just need the proper names for them.
If the game lags, it's your pc not being able to handle the textures.
Your equipment menu is messed because of unhandled framebuffer emulation.

November 15th, 2005, 17:45

November 16th, 2005, 02:37
Well, your pc wasn't on your sig, when you asked.
Blame it on Rice's implementation then.
Framebuffer is simply not being emulated properly in Zelda.
_sniper_
November 17th, 2005, 18:11
Well it seems to work on yours. I've tried zelda 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2. Are there some perticular options to get rid of this messed up texture? And also the problem of the treehouse being the backround of the subscreen?
Googol
November 17th, 2005, 21:29
These glitches are system and plugin dependent. Rice's plugin has very little framebuffer emulation, so the best you'll get on some machines is a slightly glitchy Link. For the Treehouse? The last pre-rendered background is used as a replacement background for it due to the blur effect thing not being emulated. If you want an almost perfect OoT (but without hi-res), just use normal PJ64 with Jabo's plugin.
_sniper_
November 17th, 2005, 21:56
With some google'ing, i found that GLN64 w\ hardware frame buffer emulation is just about the best plugin for zelda OoT. So I went and dl'ed it, and I have to agree :D. If only there was a way to combine GLN64 with RiceVideo! I can't stand these low res textures.. :(

Is this project still being worked on? I haven't heard anything on this for a while now. KMan started a new perfect dark hi-res project, so does that mean he's not working on zelda anymore? I really hope this doesn't die because it's by far better than djipi's cel zelda(no offense djipi, i just don't like cel shaded graphics) and i really love how you keep the textures similar to the original, plus i'd probably kill myself if it did. Christ, there are way too many people that ask this question. It's a frame buffer issue.
Set N64 Frame Buffer Emulation to Basic Framebuffer and with emulator.
Set Rendering to texture emulation to write back and reload.

Sorry, but I'm having the same issues and I changed the settings to the ones you listed and I still have the same problem. Also, it takes about 30 seconds before the item/sub menus pop up for me, is there a way to fix it? The items and menus are more important to me than some minor messed up graphics though since you need to keep pausing the game to change gears in the Water Temple.

Yeah, for Project 64, I hear you don't need it, because it's already in the cheat list somewhere.
For 1964, you'll have to add this.

Perhaps you should post a list of textures you need which you feel you cannot do yourself. That way it will focus others who want to have a go, and this thread will get biz-ay again. (I apologise for the pronunciation of Busy, I'm not a chav, honest...)

I just downloaded 0.20, and i sadly had to see, that kokiri forest had not been retextured completely. So I made some things and I even used some of Kmans textures for it to fit his style.
Here you can see the Textures:

Yeah, with Project 64, definitely solved the problem... but for some reason, I can't use my 1964 Zelda save file on it. Why is that? It's not a savestate and I've been able to swap saves between the 2 emulators before.

Set N64 Frame Buffer Emulation to Basic Framebuffer and with emulator.
Set Rendering to texture emulation to write back and reload.

Jeebus christ, would you guys shutup! Just let it go, Cybertronic. This is a thread for talking about zelda retexturing, not who's being a noob. So, back on topic, nobody has done anything for this project for months, so i thought i'd take a whack at it. I'm gonna try to retexture everything on the item select screen and equipment screen that has not been done yet. I've already started on it and i'm about 3/4 of the way done, i think. Let's see what i've done so far....okay, i've done the deku stick, deku nut, megaton hammer, lens of truth, din's fire, farore's wind, nayru's love, and i'm working on the empty bottle, but it looks like crap right now so i think i'm just gonna redo the whole thing rather than editing it. So, when i'm all done(which could be tomorrow), i'll post the files and some screenshots, and if there good enough(which they better be cuz i've been workin my ass off making these), they might be included in the pack.

Yeah, it kinda seems like no one cares about this project anymore. In my opinion though, this is by far the best OoT texture pack. I just don't get why no one wants to work on this anymore, i mean everyone seemed to love it when it first came out, but now it looks like it's on the verge of death. But, about my textures, it looks like it might be another day or two. Why? Because first of all i lost a bunch of progress last night when my computer froze before i saved any of my stuff, and second, i keep thinking i'm done with a certain texture, but then i'll keep coming back to it later and spend lots of time editing it to try and make it look better. But i suppose this is a good thing, because they'll look better. Don't expect them to be perfect though, as this is my first time retexturing anything, but i think they look pretty good right now. I'd show you guys a sample, but i don't know if any of the textures are final. Well, maybe i'll post a screenshot of what i have done later today, if you're lucky.

I really havent used rice's plugin before and I dunno how to dump textures...BUT, I am fairly artsy (although I lean towards fine arts) and am a HUGE fan of OoT (although link to the past was better, they're basically the same game but one in 3d)

I really havent done it before so I may be on the learning curve for a while but I have photoshop and illustrater and all that jazz so hopefully I'll do what I can.

I'm not saying I'm going to take it over, just help...and federelli posted right at the beginning that he wanted others to help and that this wasn't "his" pack anymore. I'm not saying I can do everything, I'm just saying that I have some artistic skill, and seething that the most difficult part is actually re-creating the graphics, that's what I can help with. I'm assuming it can't be that tough to dump the images myself but I'm not sure what still needs to get done seeing as I don't even know when the pack was last updated (there is a lack of information in this thread, I attempted to go through all 190 pages but gave up=] )
anyways, if someone just wants to let me know what needs to me remodelled and send me the original textures I'll see how difficult it is and then give an estimate as to how much I can contribute to the pack, if I can finish a full texture in one sitting I maybe be able to promise quite a bit. I'd just like to see this pack completed so I can replay zelda again but with amazing graphics.

I'm not saying I can do everything, I'm just saying that I have some artistic skill, and seething that the most difficult part is actually re-creating the graphics, that's what I can help with...Yes… it’s kind of weird. Sometimes happen that someone aim for help and truly there is some other who want to help them, but is difficult. Could be certain deficiency in the communication through messages in this forums, could be bad organization (from the users, I mean), or just bad luck? Anyway, I think this happen a lot around here.
Also, I think that sometimes one user CAN DO a better job with not–many textures, because they probably wish to dedicate a lot of time in some single one and take care for the details in one way that seems to be impossible for those who work in a entire title or project.

But in the case of Haunted Wasteland, Id assume its because its got comparatively less textures to do. I keep meaning to get something done for this game and then...er, not bothering. Which is no help to anyone and why I said it, I dont know. Maybe a door pack

I think the main progress killer of this mod is the strive to perfection in its textures. It seems that if someone doesn't turn up K-Man professional style stuff then it's rejected. I think even if it's not that good, but not awful, it should be thrown in the pack. If someone feels it isn't good then make a better version, and replace it.

January 15th, 2006, 12:13
Yeah, fire temple. Im not bothered about pack worthiness, as its been said before, there seems to be this whole perfectionist thing going on, which is fine, but its sort of a shot in the foot. So, Im just doing it for myself, which I believe is what Ive always done. I know alarm bells go off when people say this and its almost like youll get another crappy compilation pack of other peoples mods (sup wwf no mercy? :s) but really. I work to enough briefs outside of a hobby, to work to another set of peoples briefs for nothing. And, everyone seems to have their own ideas of what things should be. hmmm.
Anyway enough of that, about that second door; interestingly, the door handle texture is tied in with that, its weird mapping. I accounted for it, its just weird as all other doors just dont have a handle. Just a fun fact.
Havok154
January 15th, 2006, 19:07
Just release all your doors in a pack like you want to since I'll use it, just like I'm using the Kokiri walls from I think Muh Muh because I just want to have Higher Res textures then the original ones. If they're not perfect, it's better then having only 1/8 new textures and the rest pure crap that came with the game.

I'm really sorry everyone that i've been taking so long with my textures but i haven't had time to work on them for the past week and a half. Also, before working on these textures, i have never used any photo editor before in my life, well besides MS paint, so it took me quite awhile to figure out how to use everything and get familiar with the program(i used paint shop pro 9), so that's another reason i've been taking so long. But, i have gotten a lot better over these past 2 weeks, so maybe when i'm done with the select item and equipment screen, i could start working on other textures. So, about my textures, i'm done with the select item screen except for the bottles(i'll get started on those tomorrow hopefully), so it's time for a texture pack, well, almost. I still need to get all my files organized and put them in a zip file and make some instructions for it so noobs know what to do with the files. So, i will definitely release the textures tomorrow(oh wait, it already is tomorrow, it's 2 a.m. in my time zone). But for now, i'll post screenshots of everything. Oh yeah, in other good news, well good news for me at least, i just got my new motherboard/cpu i ordered from outpost.com. I can run all games full speed now. OK, i'm finally gonna post my textures, but before i do, just let me say some stuff first.
1.) This is just a list of everything that is in this release. some of the textures in here are not mine, i just got the correct names for the US version of the rom. Those textures are the unusable slingshot and the bow, and that's it; and these are the textures that i made. That list consists of the deku stick, deku nut, lens of truth, hookshot and longshot(which are actually the same but with different names), megaton hammer, fire arrow, ice arrow, light arrow, din's fire, farore's wind, nayru's love, bow with fire arrow attached, bow with ice arrow attached, and last but not least, bow with light arrow attached.
2.)This is just some instructions on where to put the files(even though most of you probably already know). OK, open up the zip file titled select item screen.zip and extract all files to (location of hi-res folder)\THE LEGEND OF ZELDA\Sub-Screen\Select Item. Then, take the other zip file titled unusable.zip and extract all files to (location of hi-res folder)\THE LEGEND OF ZELDA\Sub-Screen\Select Item\Unusable. Ok, everything should work perfect now, that is, if your using the US version of the rom. The reason i say that is because the textures might have different names if your using a rom from a different region like europe or japan. So, if some textures won't work you'll have to find the correct names yourself because i only have the US version, sorry.
Now, with that said, here's the files. So, go test 'em and tell me what you think.

I meant that you could simply use a blurring effect on the potion part to make it look a bit more realisticy. If your using photoshop all you must do is click on the one that looks like a water droplet and you can use the blur effect. Hope this helps

I don't have photoshop, i have paint shop pro. I was trying to do what you just said yesterday, but i couldn't find the right tool(or it doesn't exist in paint shop pro). You can blur stuff in there, but you have to apply it to the whole image and i just want to blur the red potion part. Perhaps i should get Photoshop.

Opacity? I'm not familiar with that word. I'm new to photo editing.

Um, that looks more cel shaded than realistic, well at least the potion part. It's just like plain red with no detail. It's kinda wierd, you have a realistic bottle with a cel shaded potion inside. Try adding some detail to it and it would be better.

is it possible to select a certain part of the image and then apply the blur? I dunno I've never used paint shop pro. Also, opacity (correct me if I explain this poorly guys) is how well you can see an image. The more opacity you loose the more it disapears. And if you loose some but not all the way, the image can appear transparent looking. I actually used that on my bottle to make the shadow look better, and more like it does with the bottles from OoT.

I'll try to find a way to blur a certain part of the image, but about opacity, does that control transparency? Because i wanted to make my bottle transparent, and i couldn't figure out how. The original bottle was transparent, and i wanted mine to be like the original.
Also did even 1 single person try out my textures i posted yesterday, because no one's even said anything about them after i posted them. If you look in djipi's thread, whenever he posts anything(screenshots, files etc.), people freakin worship him. Like two seconds after he posts everyone will post and be like "OMFG THOSE ARE AMAZING!!!!! THAT'S THE COOLEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!" and go all crazy and shit. Ok, that kinda sounds like i'm super pissed or something, but i'm not mad at all. I just want to know if anyone's looked at them yet and what they think of them. I used paintshop pro's wrinkle effect but with low depth and alot of smoothness on the liquid part. You can just colorize the Liquid, Liquid_Top, and blur layers to get different potion colors.

Hi guys, im new here. First of all as a zelda fan i must say i'm really impressed what you've done to OOT. I can't wait till its finished. I hope you'll finish it, because it would be a shame if you don't. It all seems like a whole lot of work. Any idea of when you'll be finished?
As for the cemetery, hope you can take critisicm from a newb. I think the walking stones are a bit strange, i think it has something to do with the colors. Anyways great job. I made some screenshots of some things i encountered.
As for the nintendo logo. i think it has something to do with my config... or videocard.
The second image is all blurry when i hit the start button, i followed the thread and saw that someone else already posted it, but im still having the problem, so thought you should know and somehow when i hit the start button it always shows the last room i visited on the background. Here you can see the treehouse, for as it also could have been a shop or something like that.
The third image i was wondering when you guys will do the grass and the walls.
The fourth image is also obvious, some strange black glow after opening the chest above the green/yellow shine.
The fith has some problem with rolling. The texture is being all messed up.
As for the sixth and seventh the rupees are a strange color.
In the eight picture you can see the camera angle is messing up the path by some strange triangle formed from the grass.
And the final one i made in the deku tree, wondering when youll do the walls there, cause the rest of the deku tree is all been done if im not mistaken.
I saw some more bugs troughout the game, but im not sure if its the game or my computer not loading the textures or my videocard having problems outputting them.
A whole lot talking and criticism for a newb but i really appreciate your great work. Keep it up. Hope you can do something about the errors ive shown you.

Kas12. Wings look solid, but consider inverting the alpha. The geometric shapes should be more transparent (though far from 100%. Maybe even more than 50%white) than the viens which define them. I would also recommend a smooth fade from the edge to the middle of the geometric shapes, if you take my advice. It will help give them some more depth. Furthermore, get a bit of actual texture on the wings.
Here's a refference image for you to work from.
http://www.microscopy.fsu.edu/primer/techniques/phasegallery/houseflywing.html
I don't want to slight your work, but it just isn't finished yet. A solid base to work from, absolutely, but it doesn't look much more than 50% complete. If absolutely nothing else, fade to black on the alpha so that the wings don't look like they are pasted onto a glowing 'fluffy' object. The fade to black a the base will help to punch the aura effect of the fairies. Fairy wings ARE difficult to see, so you shouldn't be terribly stressed things have to be absolutely perfect, and hyper detailed. You only need enough to imply details of insect wings... unless you really want to wow the audience in the off chance navi floats in front of Link's face while they are looking around in first person. That DOES happen often enough for you to merit trying 110%. The choice if your's to even take it any further at all, though. :)
Good luck, Kas12. I don't want to be too critical, hence all of the suggestions, but a few people already gave direct possitive responses, and I really believe you should keep going. It is rather faithful to the original in effect (transparent viens/opaque skin), so maybe you don't want to take my first advice, but consider the rest, and maybe keep working on it. :)

Compare this texture-pack to the Celda mod. The Celda mod looks much more like Zelda (mostly bcos the textures were ripped from another Zelda).
It must be hard work making these textures on your own, or getting a good template to work on - but _imho_ it doesn`t look that much Zelda as it used to be.
Further on.. let`s take Dijpjis textures for Kokiri. Kokiri is all about the forest, trees, grass.. almost anything in Kokiris is based on wood. But the screenshots show way too much stone, that`s not Kokiri!
Hopefully now you can understand what I`m trying to explain.

Thanks. Yes I did make the master sword and key, but they're only temporary until someone else makes a better one, I'm not very good at subscreen items. I'll be back here later tommorrow with more progress...
I think that master sword looks perfectly fine. But as for the key, the colors are off a bit. It's a bluish kinda color when it should be silver. Can you send me those two textures in a pm? I could fix the key for you and try to make a better master sword. thanks.
Some WIP
Those eyes are really good, djipi. They look just like the original, too. It's good to have you on this project now, along with Amon_Knives.

those pupils look great djipi, but are you going to make the actual eye shaped more like it is in all of the game art and stuff? Or just leave it?
