Amon, the fact that that heart does not appear is that you are using the wrong combiner mode, switch to another.
The fact that he does not see the last heart actually has nothing to do with combiner modes. I think this has happend before :whistling I never had the heart or the animation before I figured out its just a matter of clicking the Near Plane Z option. The heart, as far as going into parts after getting hurt...I dont think theyre animated either. If im wrong Fed, and you have gone through and animated the 1/2 1/3 heart damage animations please say so because all I get is a beating heart animation then when Im hit its just pale. Btw switching to the other combiner mode makes everything white including link.

Forgot to say something about the Shadow medal:
It looks very good, but there's seomthing that bothers me:
This 3D-effect on it. It makes the medal look like it has just a detailing texture on it. Perhaps you could use some plugin for Photoshop or PSP (what ever you're using) that makes this look a bit glass like, so the detail on it gets kinda ditsorted (if I used the right word).
And don't forget:
Your Tower of Ganon Entrance looks absolutely awesome ;)
Funny you should say something about it looking glass, because that's exactly what I used. After looking at the screens I took, it has become apparent to me that it simply isn't working. I'll do research and maybe I'll find something I can use in photoshop, because I don't know how to use any 3d program.
If you're talking about the fierce looking face on the entrance, I never worked on that. But I do notice that the new textures make it stand out and appear so. I don't plan on redoing that because I'm not good enough yet at it, but I'll post the dumps later in case anyone else wants to work on it and the frames for the doors. I'm working on on the tiling problem as I speak and even the bridge floor, so I'll probably have an update here in a while.

Kerber2k, you know how to use Windows right?
Still i guess you don't, since you can't even check the HUD folder in my pack.
You'll find the texture for the complete heart, 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4. They are all in, none missing, all working.
See if changing from DX to OGL or viceversa does anything.

I'm waiting for Kman to release something, otherwise, it's not wort to update for just about 50 textures, none major.
You can anyway expect Kman to reappear soon and blow us all out.

I deleted your textures silly boy I know how to use windows no reason to insult me. (I deleted your textures not because of somthing you said merely because Id rather wait for somthing larger) I was just recalling how you treated me when I asked this question. No Im afraid changing to DX wont help conflicts with my crappy video card. Dont translate these words into hatered and discourgement. I simply wanted to tell everyone who has a MX NVIDIA how to fix it in a way to atleast play the game. I dont need your help, and when you did try helping it really wasnt helpful. On the other side your not really here to help others with their emulation problems, and no one said you had to, but you dont have to be so rude when awnsering my questions. -Fed Kman dont give up! This is one helluva project you have going here.

No doubt, no doubt. KMan always keeps us on the edge of our seats.
Anyways, I fixed the tiling problems (sort of) and did a retexture of the bridge floor. Also, the head at the entrance has olnybeen sharpened more, so that's all I've done for it. Due to popularity of the second pic before, I've tinted the other walls the same color, I'll need feedback cause I'm not quite sure what to think of it. I also did a webbing look to the little triangle things that support the force field, but I personally don't like it as much as the original, but tell me what you think.

ok, I'm posting my progress on Ganon's castle, now let me tell you the bad things about this WIP because I have not found all of the texture dumps.
1: The two floors textures cannot be found, if anyone has the dump for it, let me know.
2: the invisible passageway door to the fairy fountain is..well...no longer invisible. I cannt find the dump for that either, for some reason it's a differant texture from the surrounding wall.
3: the fancy crests around the medallion doors are beyond my skill to work on, but I have enclosed the dumps (already resized, so don't worry) if anyone is talented enough to do so.
4: stairs beyond my skill
I have also posted a picture of the wall bug and a brand new textures added last minute, including a new bridge!

I've never had that problem, maybe it varies between machines. As for Hyrule field's grass, I just use my own texture.

I think that's a problem with the version of OoT.
Almost everyone knows, that there are 3 different version out there (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2).
I, too, noticed that some textures (e.g. the location names) don't show up in my US-v1.2-rom.
I noticed that problem too when I retextured Banjo-Kazooie. Some textures have different names (e.g. the font in Banjo-Kazooie).
I'd say you try out different versions.
If that doesn't work then I suggest it's a problem with the plugin (note that it's still beta).
KMan
April 9th, 2005, 20:46
I'm only using v1.0 of OoT so if there are differences between dumps per version, then that would cause a number of textures not showing up.
QuickPaw

My texture pack is meant to work with all of the game versions, including: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and Master Quest, ALSO, in their European and USA versions.
It's only in Master Quest that a very small ammount of textures vary their content, or name.
All in all, as long as the internal Rom name is The Legend of Zelda, it will work. And if it's not, simply make a batch rename with whatever the internal rom name is.

You won't be breaking any rules to post the texture, only roms, isos, and official 3d models of them are illegal to post. Yeah, I think you should post them, but I'm not sure how much help it will be. I mean, just take a look at KMan's shield, it's a whole lot better than SSBMs Shield.
Persephone, I believe the french language stuff can be found in Djipi's thread, other than that, the textures should work with every other Zelda OOT game, because it's just the words that are changing, not the textures.

They are useful dumps aren't they. But for some reason I can't get any of zelda's textures to load on photoshop. But I'll just take Fed's word on it being illegal (tho I don't see how) and quit working on those.
Ruto is a good thing to work on, I mean, no one here has even started anything having to do with zoras. I'm still working on ganon's castle interior, but I haven't had a lot of time to work on it. Hopefully once summer starts I'll have a lot more time.
KMan, I was wondering when ur new stuff is coming out, because Fed said earlier that he is waiting for ur stuff before he releases the next pack.

Let me clear some things up.
If you got files from SSBM (as in Melee), sure, post em here :). Otherwise, don't.
1. Federelli, I do believe you yourself did ask for the textures I have. I was just trying to help you and/or give you some ideas of what the charactures COULD look like.
2. I think you missunderstand me. When I said, "dug up from the internet" I was refering to google's Image search option. The LOZ art is not illegal in any way.
3.
Even if they look awesome, i won't use this textures. It's completelly illegal. However, it will sure help KMan do his work, even when i know he can do way better than those :).
Federelli, SINCE WHEN HAS ANY EMULATION BEEN COMPLETELY AND UNDISPUTEDLY LEGAL!!!??? (!) In my mind this is just different shade of gray.
4. But, if Rice or any other Admin thinks I have done anything wrong, just say the word and I will remove the offending post(s).
KMan
April 15th, 2005, 18:25
The legality issue comes into play if you go and start using SSB:M texture dumps straight out and into another game. As for any of it helping me when I get to those characters, don't bother.
Federelli
April 15th, 2005, 18:50
Emulation in my country is legal, but copyright infringement isn't.
And i didn't misunderstood anything, it's you who misunderstood, by taking it as if in any part of my post, i mentioned something related to you.
1. Who said i didn't?
2. Read above 1.
3. Read abobe 1.
4. Lighten up :).

Not exactly. The unlicensed distribution of copyrighted roms is illegal. (In most countries that's the way it is anyway.) ;)
Excellent job on the textures BTW. Can't wait for the next release. Wish I had the artistic skills to contribute.
EDIT: Actually I'm not sure how many countries go by that rule, so change that 'most' to 'many'. Since you live in the US, though, that's the way it is here.

Here's a new one
Intersting, Djipi, to say the least. I like the hair band and hair, I'm not sure what's wrong with the dress, but it looks a little bit off. As for the eyes, very nice, but I think it would fit better on someone like princess zelda, because it looks a bit too flashy for a simple forest girl. Think about the culture, they live in a forest alone, with no parents or anything, they probably make their own cloths and (this one is a bit wierd to think about) if they want to dye their hair (say green for example) thay probably use plant chlorofill (if thats how you spell it). I'm a personal fan of LOTR and I liked the way they incorporated little details in each of the cultures. I've always imagined that in Zelda OOT. Like Hyrulians=royalty, Zoras=most of their civilazation would be underwater, except for where link travels (think of the mysterious polygon glitch beneah zoras domain, a house perhaps?), Kakariko=very simple people, peasnts, Gerudo=sort of arab when you think about it, they live in a desert and probaby wear cloths with material that blocks out sand. and their fortress would probably be made of material to withstand a sandstorm. Gorons= think moles, digging homes underground (medigoron) and their city is made of differant layers on dug out dirt and rock.
There is limitless creative possibilities when you really get down to the niddy gritty of each race and how they live that you can incorporate into the look and enhancement of what the original artists were trying to create. You don't think I created the darker atmosphere for ganon's castle for no reason do you? lol.

i've done a new dump pack with :
- boss name (english, french and german)
- all font characters seen in french and german game
- some misc "text" valid in all languages
BTW, I see 'W' letter already redone I don't know if it is correct, it is ?
(location: "Title Screen\OOT Logo" name: "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA#91C440A8#4#0_all.png")
I think I can do the english pack but they can take more or less long time because i now have some (very hard) exam ...
Zeytok
April 18th, 2005, 20:56
Federelli, a little thing... when you say "complete", what is it ?
1)All text that can be found (include already redone textures text)
2)Or need "filtered" (not include already redone textures text)
if 2), an update can help me to know what is already done... :)

Djipi, I really like most of your stuff. Now I see the differance in Zelda. Wow, it was so well done, I couldn't tell the differance with the eyes, well done. BTW, the kokiri forest entrance realy fits in with KMan's wall, but it could be just a little bit lighter. (unless that's just the lighting, I'm not sure)

umm, if you were paying attention, you would know that he's working on that right now and he need the dumps for them. C'mon, that was only 3 posts ago. Please people, before you post questions, make sure that it hasn't been answered moments before.
Anyways, Cybertronic, I know this is a million old solution, but did you check to see if they needed to be 32 bit ci textures? oh, wait, maybe it's a differant eye. There are like 3 differant eye texture just for them to blink.

I'm sorry, he did not specify dialogue textures, and I am just getting confused after seeing so many screens (esp Dijipi's) with hi-res text. Please, you and Federelli, though you may be texture experts need to chill a bit and not jump on everyone who asks a half-decent question. Thanks.

Hmmm, that doesn't look a thing like the kokiri sword. Other than that, good. By now I guess everyone has guessed that everyone who has made an item subscreen basically uses the same images. Since no one else has, I'm gonna post my work on the items (which has no "unuseable item" pictures and only most of the items and equipment and no spiritual stones) so others can add on to that and finish it. So for me, it's back to the castle (Ganon's castle that is).

I am talking about these, the first is the one from my pack earlier and the second is the one in your pack. Other than that, the others that look like mine could just be using the same pictures I used, but I created this one by scratch along with the fire and light.
Another example of what's not loading is Link's new mouth and ear textures.

Version difference between 1.0 & 1.2 shouldn't have any effect either, with OoT v1.2 I get exactly the same textures loading as I do with OoT v1.0 & MQ.

Yeah, I just kinda realized that after my post. Apparently, When I tried to delete the one before to install .18, I didn't delete the "subscreen" folder. So I was basically looking at my same textures. Sorry for the spam everyone. Sorry Fed.

Hmmm, I hate to say this, but it basically looks like you just raised the resolution then added the same stone filter effect over and over again over the top of each layer. It also looks too flat, it needs a little depth.

Who cares about the method used, as long as the result looks good (and it does IMO) It may be possible to make better textures, but Djipi's screenshots look more than decent.

When I unpack the Fed 0.18 i get the Legend of zelda folder, but it contains subfolders. Are they supposed to be in that structure or should I put all the images of all subfolders to the Legend of zelda folder? Iīm asking because i dont get high res on the grass of the Hyrule field, but i do get high res on the grass in Links village. Also the text when speaking is not high res.

IMO thats way too deep, it's a floor texture for gods sake, floors are supposed to be flat not bumpy, overuse of filters like that and adding depth makes it look really bad imo, it was better before but already then it was overdone imo.

Since the fire temple is pretty much completely made of stone, I would say keep the depth. The floor pieces are just large chunks of stone anyway. It's also a change from the rest of the game's floors.

I only half agree with you (mainly because I like the ones that don't look like filters i.e. the statues). So let this be a lesson learned to all texturers: No quick filters, people will notice and it never makes it look good.
Djipi, I see talent, and I like some of the non filtered out textures you have made, but please, take your time on some things. Just like with Fed and KMan, "good things come to those who wait"...and if you don't wait, you don't get what you want....BTW way Djipi, google is your friend...lol.

HQ4x is great, but requires a lot of cleanup depending on the image. It has trouble with sharp corners, and needs a little bit of manual modification. I tried to stick as close to the original as possible. Where pieces are sharp, they are sharp. Where smooth, they are smooth.
Fed, any thoughts? Oh, and what do we think about the shadows? I tried a very minimal 4 pixel drop, but it is hard to get it perfect with the transparency.

I wouldn't go off of that (bottom image) one though. That (bottom image) one took a bit of time to make. It wasn't a simple filter procedure. I had to lay down some paths to create the lines, set up the tones for the areas, and then go in and adjust some of the corners that needed to be sharp. It wouldn't be the best way to go to redo all of them.

Yah Kman, I figured that one took a bit of time. Redoing these all by hand would take hours, and wouldn't look that much different from an hqx one.
I had applied a slight gaussian to the image to smooth some of the color differentiations a tad, but I wasn't sure how it would come out on the real thing. Try this one, its much better when the map is sharper.
[EDIT]I also think my external black highlight may be a little to thick. The one on the right is just two pixels. I think this matches better.

Ideally, the maps ought to be done from scratch. The hq filters aren't too good at filtering some of the gradients (look at the Deku Tree in the map, looks really bad) and the outline is not as smooth as a remade texture, but bumpy. Hq filtered maps will do for the time being though as they are quicker to produce.

I acually think the "useless" posts just give this thread a more community feeling in itself. I hardly ever go to any of the others. lol. BTW Djipi, we aren't trying to be mean, we were just being brutally honest. That keese fire really gives it a type of Wind Waker feeling to it. Maybe you could start a whole new project making it look cel shaded like WW. Just a thought.
So, in order to not make this a useless post, I'll give you people an update: My motherboard is being repaired, but I saved my stuff on an external hard drive and I'm working on it on a separate computer. Since my friends computer doesn't have the rom or an emulator, I can't post a screen. I have finished the hallway where the bats are and the other external hallways, and I must say, they are looking pretty good (but some of the textures I have been working blind with). As soon as I get the new motherboard I'll post pics and hopefully be done with the rooms where you fight the iron knuckles and others.

Actually, the only map that really needs fixing out of all 23 is the deku tree. Most all of the other maps turn out excellent with hq filtering and a bunch of touchups because they don't have complex gradients like the tree base. The deku tree gradient is especially tough though because even the original was a big mess. This may need to be recreated manually.
The thing that is nice about the hq though is that it is almost identical in scale and piece location to the original map. Since it is a map, it kind of has to stay the same. Hand made variations may have slightly different pixel variations, but really aren't worth the time of recreation. The best of both worlds I think is a template based off of the hgx filtered version.

Amon, while your work is somewhat impressive, it's not what i'm after. I want higher quality work, such as Kman's.
I'll be a critic now, and tell you what's wrong with your textures :). Take it just as advice.
They are flat, and it's pretty easy to tell that the texture is being repeated constantly. You should try to make it so that you can't tell that the same texture is being repeated all the time.
They also like continuity. It seems like you used photosourced textures in your work. Don't, since realism is not the way to go with things that are seen all the time, specialy with rock walls.
If you'd like to make every single item, i'll be glad to include it in my pack (gray versions as well). Just make sure to make the drop shadow exactly the same for very item. Check my Ocarina to get it as equal as possible
HoJu, suck my balls :).

I think you all are doing a great job. :bouncy: For all those who think they can do better, shut-up and show us! Eveybody lighten-up! We all have different tastes and standards. While Kman does all his from scratch and they look awesome, it takes a long time for him to get textures done. Djipi gets alot done, but some would say his textures aren't good enough. Federelli is somewhere in between and from what I understand doesn't like stolen textures. No one can make everybody happy, so if you don't like the textures don't use them! Alas, it is true. I can tell as well that they are being repeated constantly, but I think I have recently found something to fix that.
I recently got in touch with the man who taught me how to use photoshop, and he took a look at this thread to see my work. He told me almost exactly what you said (only pointed out a few other things I need to improve on). He hooked me up with several plugins (one by the name of "seamless tiles") and told me a few techniques. Because of these, I am going back to the front of ganons castle and redoing the repetative tiles, mainly. When I post progress again, expect it to look seamless and a little more 3d looking. :P
As for the door, expect it to look really kicka$$ by the time I'm done as well. As for the items, no thanks, I'm not that good at those, plus I enjoy making world textures too much.

Are we sure there are only 23 maps? Seems like there has to be a lot more areas than that.
Oh also, I have played around with fixing the one map that has a gradient. I'm toying with something like this for the giant deku tree. I'm trying to keep it as similar to what the original map looked like, which is a 96x62 pixel mess. lol

i am doing a little experimentation and am on the fence about this. this might be a little difficult as parts of the map are intentionally left blank to show the borders and such. there is always the problem of going overboard. I love the fact that this is nothing more than a simple replica of hyrule. it's also very tough to texturize on such a small scale and have it not look messy.
Its definitely do-able. Using the magic wand and adding or subtracting from the selection you can isolate for example a path or water. from here you can use the healing brush to blend in a gradient or pattern. you also have to take in to account that this is being displayed in tones of green. green textured grass may look great, but what about rocks, water, houses? my gut feeling is to just keep it simple, but let me play around and see what I can do. we might be able to jazz it up a little while still keeping close to the original.

Yeah I read through some of the thread and saw the things KMan posted. The guy is amazing. If only he could clone himself into 10 people, he could remake OoT into the best looking zelda ever in no-time.
Oh and another question. If the entire game ever does get 100% retextured in 4x scale, like it seems to be planned, will a 128MB Radeon 9800 with 64MB VRam Aperture be enough to store all these textures and retain smooth gameplay?
By the way I would love to help with the project, but I have no idea what sections are being worked on currently. I want to dive into something that wont be for waste. I was thinking that some kind of texture database would help keep this project extremely organized and effecient. Someone could make an html page with a big database of every texture in the game, the image of the original and an image of the new (if available), with boxes for any additional info, and a check box indicating if the new texture is considered a final product. What does everyone think?

Kerber, you planning on putting your png for the shrubs up? They're lookin pretty sweet, and the shrubs were actually the main thing that's been driving me nuts in Kokiri Forest, glad to see someone redid em with the quickness. Looks pretty damn good... I'd like to leech it hardcore style, if you could put it up =D
And just a few comments on the whole demeaning banter... I think it's silly to just shoot someone down, like Djipi, just because they're ameteur. He states that his is ameteur, not a work like Fed or KMan, so what's the point in degrading him further? Yeah, he's a foreigner, and his command of the english language warrants a little more practice on his part... But I think the point is that the whole Zelda retexturing community kicks ass, and his stuff is really just filler until someone implements something better (which seems to happen often in this thread :P ). Let's face it: No one is doing the high-caliber work that Kman and Fed are, but unenhanced N64 games are so LQ, they make my eyes want to bleed.
Thank you all for kicking ass and releasing these textures to us, because seriously... The new iterations of Zelda have been lacking, and being able to come back to a game I loved, but have it be up to waaaaaay higher standards is beautiful. Thanks again, guys, for sharing your talent.

Well put. I finally read through the entire thread, and I did notice quite a lot of newbie bashing. If someone successfully replaces a texture in their game, and shows us a screenshot, don't make fun of them or viciously shoot them down. Because when they accomplish this, it shows 2 things:
1) They are in fact NOT a newbie
2) They have a geniune motivation to help the project
It doesn't matter if their work is currently low quality, or it doesn't fit with the game's style. Just go easy on them, give them subtle advice, and you will be surprised how quickly they will come back with improved results. The more negativity in this project, the less of a chance we have of it ever being completed.
Also, I'm 100% sure that most of my textures are NOT loading. When the game starts up, it flies through maybe 50 textures in 2 seconds, then the rom plays. Thats not even close to the full set.

Got a good room? I Doubt it :)
As retexturing, try the graveyard, kakariko village...
Kerber, that bush would look great, though, could you darken the area where it meets the floor?

Great. Got them all done then.
Can you post a few of the dungeon maps? I would love to have a look a them. I would also love to look at the subscreen ones as well.

Amon_Knives could you put together a texture pack, because your textures are honestly amazing, i havent searched the whole thread 50+ pages, but it would be sweet. also you and kman should get together cuz he also seems talented in texturing and make a separate thread for oot texture mod?

You mean rom? Yes I do. I downloaded OOT 1.0 twice. Both checksums matched. I also have 1.2. All my roms have the [!] and [U]. So what are the secret settings to make all the textures load? I checked the "load hi-rez textures" button in rice's textures tab. What now?

Thank you, but Kman is wayyy ahead of me. I'm perfectly fine where I am. I don't plan on relesing the ganon's castle pack until I finish up with all the rooms. I'm going one room at a time, but I hoped I could post some progress pics today. The final pack (I plan) should be ready for the next week sometime.
Fed, I used the new techniques I learned (though I'm not sure they helped much, it got confusing) so I would like you to tell me what you think needs improvement now. The new walls were created from scratch by my my mentor, so I cannot take credit for that part of this. Tell me waht you think. :P

You should make that Red Gem on the wall look more like a gem otherwise look pretty good.

Sweet, the red carpet no longer looks like ganon's interior decorator vomited on asphault! Seriously, man, it's coming along really nice... I like the changes you made a whole lot... the WIP of the castle is getting really close to a final product.

Here are the 23 hi-rez maps. If someone has a chance to test them out and report back to me that would be great. Just PM me with any errors or messed up parts.
