is there a reason why in netscape when i enter an adress that ends in .shtml, it opens up the source for the page. this is only happening in netscape for some reason. and one other thing, in opera, how come it doesn't read my <br> and </p> tags. is there someting special i have to do?
*edit* it seems only like a problem i'm having with one of my own pages thats .shtml. other pages with that extensions load fine. anyone know why this is so?

you might have the MIME settings for NS set to open .shtml files as source.. that is.. you have the default editor trigger itself on when files with the name .shtml are run locally.. i'm not sure if this is possible but it might be that..
try <br clear="left">.. if that don't work try changing the compatibility mode of opera.. like into ie4 or ns6 or whatever.. operas d3d is complete that i know of.. it seems weird that it would'nt let <br> work.. unless you have opera preset to a very old html standard.. i think all that stuff is somewhere under file / settings /.. and then i'm not sure if it's under emulation or compatibility.. but those guys hav echanged their menus a few times so depending on the version your running you'll have to look for yourself :p..

i prolly am beginning to get annoying huh?? im kinda netscape dumb, never used it till about a week ago. where do i configure the mime setting?? i looked in preferences, couldn't find anything that i thought was it. then i went to netscape help, but that turned out to be garbage. they don't even have a search, just an index with about 1,000,000 topics to choose from. anyways, sorry bout my jerkiness :P
by the way, thanks alot for ur help with opera

eh.. lol.. dun worrie.. your not the only one who don't anjoy the fake l33tness of NS.. i never understood why all the retro ppl had to keep on using NS only coz it's not MS.. i feel NS is such a bad browser to code for.. compared to IE anyways.. that i don't see why ppl must be so dumb and and persistant to keep using it.. the users know sites won't work well with it.. but still they go on using it.. unless your on linux/unix.. i see no reason to use NS.. and even then you could be using the other browsers that work better for that OS anyways.. NS makes sites look even weirder in linux/unix (font sizes smaller, forms totally diferent, alignment is just a big question mark coz it don't work well).. and when you make a site.. it's really hard to know coz you gotta have a machine running linux to check that.. and well honestly.. usually i don't give a damn bout that.. coz it's the users own fault.. if their on linux they should use konquerer at least.. unless it's for a bigger site.. then i guess i take a few looks and try to fix a few things..
don't get me wrong.. i've coded sites just for NS b4.. i know how to fix most of the stuff.. even know how to make a fake iframe work in NS 4.x using javascript that can do everything an iframe in IE can do.. but it means making 2 sites.. not just one.. and i'm kinda lazy bout that.. i 1st.. code for IE.. coz it's the browser that almost everyone is using.. then i think of NS and OP.. i also know that alot of the bigger sites are going to stop supporting NS browsers.. the place i used to work at for example.. if you run NS browsers they where thinking of giving you a text only version of their site and popup a window with IE links.. it's kinda funny.. but i feel it's good.. coz website programing is going slow since you have to think of support for browsers that don't support half of the internet markup languages.. or support them but with their own special code..
i'm just hoping NS eather fixes their browsers so that they follow the same standard as IE or someone with money buys NS and closes them hehe :p..
