finished it 3 times on uhle with my old trusty k6-2 450 and a voodoo2, for some reason never on my n64 :) if i had to choose this would probably be my top-rated mario game. imo the best stage is the clock on the 2nd floor in the castle or maybe the sunken ship (jolly roger bay or something like that i think). theres so much to explore you never really get tired of it :)

Still the best 3D platformer in my opinion. Finished it twice as I recall; collected all 120 stars each time. I've been thinking of buying a used N64 so I can play it again, sans emulation.

yep the "sence" pf playing is a lot more better on good old N64, and it`s good old joypad. But for those wich whant to enjoy in N64 joypd at PC, here is something interesting: http://www.emulatronia.com/reportajes/directpad/n64/index.htm
hm i got stucked on collecting the fifth star at the Whomp`s Fortress level. The name of the star is: Blast away the wall. I don`t know how to colect that star anyone knows.
P.S.
and hey what is this? Where are ll this people? Super Mario was in his time twice popular as C.S. is today, so don`t tell me that there are no Super Mario, and especialy
Super Mario 64 fans here. So let`s hear y`a all!!! :D

I love Mario 64, it irks me that Mario Sunshine was it's successor. (Although the levels without the water pack were brilliant).

I think the only game that can contend with Mario 64 is Banjo Kazooie (or tooie) in the 3d platformer department.
Personally I prefer Banjo-Kazooie; I also can't see the fuss with Sunshine.. what's wrong with the water pack...? Gameplay is a lot like Mario 64 was, only thing that really disappointed me was the boss's, they were absolutely pathetic.
The levels without the water pack mostly got on my nerves more than anything else.

i love banjo kazooie! flying is so much easier than in mario. :)
as for mario64, beat that a long time ago (sweet uhle), but never did get full stars (at 116/120). all my missing stars are castle secret stars. except the game doesn't actually tell you which of those you've already completed, so i'd end up having to get every castle secret again. boo.

oh ma gawd, dude, that was the easiest fucking star to get!
just get in the cannon, and if you look closely at the right wall, you can see a cut that leaves you with a triangle part of the wall that is loose. just shoot mario at it, it'll break off, and then, boom, star 4 u

Concensus seems to be Mario64; both are good though.

my question was related to the newer versions of the Mario after Super Mario 64 from N64. What are impressions on them? One of them is Mario Sunshine i supose? On wich platform was it distributed? Is it better than the S.M.64 one? ;)
and you already answered me:
mario sunshine was fucking great damnit granted, it didnt stack up to mario64 but that doesnt mean its not a good game because nothing ever did stack up to mario64
but i haven`t understood you quite.
P.S.
I can`t take the star at the "jolly roger bay" wich is on the bottom of the sea (where the ship was). The star is in some kind of the platform and from the bottom there are bubbles wich are disabling me to get to the star. How to "turn-off" the bubbles? Do i have to use the invisible cap for that or what?
Also at the middle winter stage (there are three pictures of the winter, i am able only to enter at the middle one for now) i have two little pingwins, the one from the top of the mountain is from it`s mother at the bottom of the stage, but there is also another little one wich is located just above the mother-pinguin and when i hand it to her, she says that it is not her and that his parents are probably very worried about him. What to do with it? I couldn`t find any other pinguins on the stage.
P.S.2.
I am sorry for posting the reply three times. The connection was bad, so i have to press sometimes the link or the button for twice, or higher so it should be working again. So moderators you have the permission to delete two of those three posts ;)

Yeah, I'm a little late, but since it was already bumped it deserves a reply! :P
Mario sunshine? Hmm... pathetic imo. The water tube was annoying, really. And the game really couldn't capture the feeling of older mario games. It's yet worse than mario64. Anyone seen "bowser" the last boss? Gee, now THAT was pathetic. I kinda loved all the stages without the water pack. A test of skill. Hehe, I finished 'em all.
Mario64... indeed, a good game, but I still think mario world & mario bros 3 surpasses it.
I've finished the game several times, never on the computer but on the real system. For friends even, heh. Got all 120 stars of course, I could do no less ;)
Btw... thing I've learned is that usually, even if you do get that server can't be found message, thing is that your message was probably submitted anyway.

You need the Metal Cap for that. It's to the side of the level. You cannot turn off the bubbles.

The Baby Penguin at the very beginning of the stage is the right one. You need to go down the mountain safely to get the star. You cannot use the warp AFAIK. The other baby penguin is designed to fool you. You can only enter the middle painting.

bravo, like i haven`t though about that - i could simply just read any FAQ about Super Mario 64 on the net, and there are a lot of them. But that wasn`t my point - i wanted to make people who love this beautiful game to talk, even if that would be the repeating of the same subjects and themes and questions - this beautiful game deserves that (neverstoped talk about it)! :D

Ok so you are the man to help when i got up to 116 stars ;)
Also about the "mario world & mario bros 3" on wich platform was it? Can it be run by some emulator?

I found the flying cap and i have it now in all stages where it is needed the invisible cap is somewhere in the ghosts world, and what about the metal one where can i find it?

Thanks for the reply. I just don`t understood you this: "warp AFAIK".
Although at one stage (it is the one where you have a submarine with the Bowsers head drawen on it) i read the table where it says something like i had to colect some secret red numbers wich will gave me the additional secret stars. What is this about?
Also some year i saw the game with the Mario in wich he has the Vacuum cleaner on the back. Is that Mario Sunshine?

IIRC the metal cap is to the left near the start, you then have to make a mad dash for the star before your time runs out

You have to activate the green switch in Hazy Maze Cave first to get the green boxes.
The Blue Switch is not in Big Boo's Haunt, but down a hole in the drained castle moat. You need to bash two square pillars in the basement to activate that.
Also some year i saw the game with the Mario in wich he has the Vacuum cleaner on the back. Is that Mario Sunshine?
Either that or you mistook it for Luigi's Mansion. In SMS, you have a FLUDD and not a vacuum.
Also about the "mario world & mario bros 3" on wich platform was it? Can it be run by some emulator?
It's for the Super Nintendo. You can use ZSNES to play it.
I just don`t understood you this: "warp AFAIK".
There is a warp at the beginning of the Snowman's Land that takes you to the bottom of the mountain. You can't use this for the Lil' Penguin Lost Star. AFAIK = As far as I know.
