Every day hundreds of new video/computer games are released, a lot very f*cking pieces of software come from the underground, but there are some flickering jewels... like Doom 3, Far Cry or Half-Life 2 (in my oppinion).
But sometimes the game is big, has great gfx and sound effects, but one thing is missing. The devs wrote their game with bigger, better effects, a great story (in their oppinion :P) etc. but the importants thing is missing. But nobody really knows what is IT.
So here's my question: What's the importants fact in a video or computer game to buy (without really knowing the rating, only have some facts AND if you know it's a great game like 10 others too, but you choose this game) and what's your fav game ever?

Favorite game ever? Tough call, but I love Ninja Gaiden for the NES. It's fun, challenging, and yet it isn't so complex that it's impossible to master.

Everyone has a different image of what would make the perfect game, i'm still waiting for a platformer better than Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie. Sadly theres not a lot of platformer games for pc but the ones I do know about are Croc2 and SonicDX (have both).

My favourite game ever, If i had to make a choice right now i'd say ZeldaOOT/MM or Banjo Kazooie/Tooie.

Super Mario Bro. 3 for the NES. That game appeals to nearly anyone who has ever tried it. It's just a great game.

In my opinion I would say Zelda A Link to the Past. It's a great game because of the solid gameplay. Back in it's day it probably had some of the best gfx. It also appealed to just about anyone.

Yeah... but FF7 has a BAD BAD translation... the Jap has a great story and so on, the english only a good/middle story, because of smoe translation mistakes and the european /german is VERY VERY bad... you don't understand sometimes what they want... that's why I have the (G) & the (E) one... :P

It's a hard question to answer, and it depends how you look at it. If I think of the game that I've had most fun playing, then I have no other choice than Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. I remember sitting in my bedroom at 2am with a phone lead trailing along the corridor into the study, Dreamcast cooling fan humming away, and the power and might of the 33k modem in action! Oh, and carrying blizz on the game at the same time! ;) Online, that game was a truly unforgettable experience.

In my oppinion a game must have an thrilling atmosphere and you have to forget the world around. That's a fact in all Zelda Games, that's why I have all of them (okay, I don't have the cdi ones :P)
While writing this I only paused playing Beyond Good and Evil (for smoking and looking at emutalk), great game I have to admit and a thrilling atmosphere. I wanted to stop 1 hour before, but can't. That's the thing a game is needing, then I will buy it. Ah yes, the rating is (mostly) important, too. But the next Zelda will be mine on the release day, without knowing rating or with!!! *muhahahah*

KNOW that there is no such thing as a perfect game ;)
But oh, for a good game, the true feeling must be there. You know, in today's games, you feel like you want a story even... but in the old games, you didn't. Because many, in fact, didn't have any. The FEELING, mate. That's what needs be in the game! Oh, it must be an entertaining game too... excitement.

Favorite game ever? Can't think of it.

Although not my choice for best game ever (but had a lot of fun with them) I'd suggest both Gex 3D games (Enter the Gekko & Deep cover Gex, the last one only released on N64). Both of them definitely a lot more fun then Croc!

Personally I liked Rayman2 a lot and I think this is a good compatitor for the banjo games on a pc-platform. But I agree with you that the banjo-games where superb.

When I choose a game, I look what company made the game. If it's made by Rare or Nintendo for example, you can't go really go wrong when parting with your cash.

Either Jak 2 (PS2) or Devil May Cry (PS2)

Jak 2 - Stunning graphics, realistic sounds, massive game, good story, loads of gameplay action.

Devil May Cry - Kinda crap voice work and stuff but the slashing factor is awesome by far.

Jak 3 is out soon so I will be buying that, and Devil May Cry 3 is March next year which will be one of the best games next year. Although Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 are good Devil may cry 2 is shit.

The games that are the best for me are the games that I played while I was younger, when my pespective on things were more imanigative - more "magical", today any game that can give me those feeling I've had for those other games, by having something similar to remind me of those moments - that's what I look for. But most games today seem to be the same as every other game. I try to give a chance to any games that try to be diffrent and break away from the typical molds.

Soul Calibur, Burnout, Wipeout 2097 or Speedball 2 for multiplayer goodness (and let's face it all games live or die on their multiplayer.

Thief 1 !!!
Seconded. Well, rather just the series since I've only had the pleasure of Thief 2. However, there's no "perfect" game but if pressed, I'd have to say System Shock for PC.

OLDSKOOL : Turrican 1 & 2(Amiga), Speedball 2(Amiga), IK+(C64), Ancient Armour of Antiriad (C64), Cauldron 1 & 2 (C64), Delta (C64), Quedex (C64), Usagi Yojimbo (C64), Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Space Quest 3 & 4, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam n Max, Mechwarrior 1,2 and 3 (HATED 4 with a passion), Magic Carpet 1 & 2, Interstate 76, Robocop (Arcade), Slapfight (Arcade), Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2 : A Link to the Past, Kid Icarus, Metroid (NES and SNES).

FAILED TO DELIVER : Goldeneye (I know many of you will disagree)
Um.. what, pray tell, did Golden Eye fail to deliver? Lot's of FPS games still don't come close to it. If it failed, it was because of technical limits. Cartrige based system with no online play capabilities that couldn't quite keep up with the action.

If anything, I'd put Halo in this catorgory since the single player mode stinks to high heaven, it feels awkward to play like they threw in Tomb Raider controls, and doesn't even have bots for multiplayer.

Super Mario RPG for the SNES was a very fun and interesting game for me. It has this uniqueness to it, IMO.

I've also enjoyed Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie (mainly due to the mysterious secrets in the games).

I enjoy the Zelda games as well.

There are many others; it's hard to pick one perfect game. :P
