I ran SoA after running it rhough fastboot, and it works great. I am extremely satisfied with the video, BUT the shound emulation is choppy. I read through the Compatibilty list and it says the game is running great and doesn't mention a sound problem. Is anone else experiencing this problem? Is there anyway I can get the sound to game quality? Any help is appreciated.

Would I have to re d/l the game or no?

No, you'd just have to rewait the re release. As he said, it's an emulator issue, not a game issue.

Actually in the tal version the sound is much better thats because in the echelion release the sound is compressed ;)

anyone tried the echelon version on a real dreamcast to check out the sound?

On my Dreamcast the echelon version's sound is flawless.

I'm assuming that it must be due to the processor overhead of Chankast needing to decompress the echelon sound on-the-fly. It's a pretty demanding emulator. I am working at replacing the echelon sound files with their uncompressed equivalents. If this works then I will release a patch, or update SOAPatcher so it does both the echelon removal and the sound update. I'm fairly busy at the moment but I will do some more work on this soon.

I'm sure that would be greatly appreciated, aika-san. Take your time, I'm looking foward to it.

ok, here's what i have found so far:

The echelon version has a 'SOUND\' folder. In that folder there are 695 files totalling 78.2MB. On the talon version the 'SOUND\' folder also contains 695 files but this time the total size is 91.6MB. I replaced the echelon sound files with the talon ones and rebuilt the cdi. It loaded, and played fine. I played for over 2 hours before it locked on a black screen. The sound still does not sound completely right. It seems to have made the game more responsive though and the sound is generally more reliable.

I'll keep testing now.

As a good test, sit and let the introduction movie play through completely. See if if 'hangs' on Cupil.

The cupil hang remains. The standard talon version hangs here too. I'm don't think that this hang is sound related though because the sound continues to play after the hang.

I'm also unsure as to whether the sound modification I have made to the echelon version is worthwhile too. I'm still experiencing the random sound cut outs followed closely by the hanging.

Another thing that bugs me is that I commonly hear people say that the echelon version has crappier sound. I can't tell the difference between the talon or the echelon sound. I have my sound running through a nice clear 4 channel floor standing hi-fi, so if there was a difference I will notice. In what way is the echelon sound inferior????

I've noticed that there are also a lot of other files in other folders that are larger in the talon version. I think I will try replacing more of the echelon version with the talon one. Maybe it's one of the other files causing the problems. I'm beginning to think that these random hangs are due to emulation incompatability. Specifically, I think it is due to loss of a/v synchronization which also happens using the hybrid version I made.

Hmmmm.... I really don't know what to think.

I wonder if running the emulator with v-sync forced would make any difference.
