Is there any voluntary who want to design a web site for mupen64. I don't have the time needed to make it and maybe someone could be interested to work on it... ???

mesman00
January 27th, 2002, 02:13
any kind of look your goin for in particular?, if you check my profile there are two links. the first one is my homepage, the second one is gbx player. i designed both of those, so that just serves as a few examples. if you want to you can email me at mesman00@cox.net or mesman00@home.com and we can talk.

Choosing between these two design styles, I prefer something that looks like the GBX player homepage.

Thank you for being interested by that Mesman :)

I'd help you out if I had time, but I don't. I made my last design more than a year ago (current Emu64 design) and this (http://www.vankivaif.com) one 2 years ago. So, those are basically the only site designs I've done. I'm hardly a pro. :)

Yes. I based the old Apollo design on it, and Spinal based N64HQ on the Apollo design. :colgate:

hmm, isn't that considered stealing, martin? ??? (unless u got a permission of course)

It's called borrowing :)
He edits it to his desires

Remote
January 28th, 2002, 03:25
So if I were to borrow your house and edit it to my desire, i,e paint it blue and randomly cut holes in the walls, you would not mind, you would still refer to it as borrowing. All intellectual capaital is copyrighted, if I were to post a poem, and someone decided to edit it, it would still be mine.

The internet is huge so the chances of me noticing it is very slim, but still I would not have written it if I knew that some wanna-be-poet would change a couple of lines and distrubute it as his own.

Since this is not the same thing, it is not even close, and it is getting further and further away from the topic with every new post I suggest that we drop it, all that I am saying is that we should separate stealing from borrowing.

I do not know if Hactarux wants his own message board but since Mupen64 is hosted by emulation64.com should he not have one?

Nevermind that post I was confused at the moment thinking about what to call it and borrowing doesn't fit to it at all.

Sorry about that :(

I've offered this to Hacktarux already, and when/if he wants a board I'll throw one up. Hardly difficult. But I've not heard from him about that yet, and I definitely don't make boards by default for all the sites in the network.

I see, and of course not considering the size of your network, and the fact that not all sites need a forum. However if the time comes when Hactarux feels that he has the need for a message board, I guess we are glad that you can supply him with one.

Martin

Of course, I'm doing my best to please all sites in the network, regardless of popularity. Around here, it's not about the number of hits. :)

doing the best to please huh? :p.. specially them pron sites eh? ;)..

back to topic.. i'd love to help out but i'm way busy.. i have a secret project going on now.. and then after that.. there's another secret project.. and ehm.. well after that.. there's another.. and another.. ok there's 6 sites lined up :/.. and i work on all of em when i can and prioritize the way i feel i should.. to me it depends alot on how the site i'm making is currently doing.. but anyways.. really i dun think i can handle more than 6 sites this semester.. if you feel you can wait 8 months then i could help you though ???.. but i'm sure you rather have something up now :).. anyways.. good luck with it.. and hope someone gifted helps you :D..

[d.o.u.g]: Excellent job with the logo/graphics, but the site is too simple to look real good, IMO. Some menu on the left or right would look sweet, I think. Keep it in the same style as the top part of your design and we have a winner. :)

for you guys having problems with the link, this one should work:

I like your logo very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Since mesmann is working hard on the web site design and he has progressed a lot can you work with him ?
I think you should design the logos because you seem to be very good at that task (or if you want you can try to do all the site and we will compare the two results later :p ).

Whatever you will decide to do thank you very much !

well, thank you hacktarux. :)
it's okay for me to work with mesman00 if the agrees. or if he wants to design his own site and then compare, it's okay for me too.;)

any suggestion? comment? problem?

RatTrap
February 1st, 2002, 03:07
looks really nice :).. some sudgestions though..

menu is kind of messy.. it's good.. very much the style of your designs.. but maybe less color burn/dodge if that's what your using.. or maybe not shrink down the top BG so much for the menu.. coz it looks abit too messy with all the text on it.. coz the site is very simple and that's nice.. but since you have that it's like a huge contrast compared to the menu compared to the top compared to the rest.. but maybe it's just me :).. maybe try using other fonts..

in any case.. this one has my vote :D.. sorry mesman00 :/..

[d.o.u.g]
February 1st, 2002, 03:21
thanks for your suggestions RatTrap. i'll try to do a less messy menu :D

I am impressed by your graphic design skills, the logo looks amazing, but the other components, i.e menu, locatation indicator, looks like if they are apart of another design, they are similar, but does not follow the same guidelines. The logo and the news bar uses a 1px border to separate them from the background, the news bar is faded horizontally against the background where the menu is faded vertically. The logo uses none of these guidelines.

Perhaps you could move the menu beneath the logo and add a background that integrates with the rest of the design, to make the rest of the page look less naked. The design reminds me of the tv series Millenium, the semi visible text takes your attention off the black and white text and blends very well with the color combination you have picked out. It makes the red and black areas appear less dramatic, the quick menu is also a good idea.

Have you thought about framing your design?, not neccesary through the use of standard frames, it could center your design and could allow you to make your page non scrollable. This gives you several alternatives and combinations, i.e logo above / menu below, logo below / menu above , logo to the left / menu below. This would also eliminate a lot, if not all, of the blank space.

it does look very good. ratrap, you don't have to be sorry. [d. o. u. g.] obviously has more expereince w/ designing graphics then i do, and also, even if my site isn't used, its always a good learning experience.

a little off topic, but anyone know a good site with some photoshp tutorials so i can learn some more about graphic design ( i have picked up an ok knowledge over the last two months or so, but there is so much more to learn)

but, if you have seen the thread in talk of the town, and have any insight on why the site looks like it does in opera on hacktarux computer (see the picture, then compare it to mine), i wouldnt mind knowing!

RatTrap
February 1st, 2002, 10:57
mesman00.. that's the spirit :D.. learning is the main thing.. i sudgest even after the site is finished you continue learning.. it's what i do :)..

hmmm.. well i honestly haven't had much time latelly to more than just glanse at both yours and [d.o.u.g]s designs.. so i can't really say what your doing wrong and i have a test at 12 today.. it's 6 am now.. i've been studing all night.. so i'm gonna go catch some sleep.. and i'll just say that the flash thing is very useless since what your doing with it can be donne with really simple javascripting..

then the photoshop schools.. i think eddy or [d.o.u.g] had some link to it somewhere.. i never found time to check out those tutorials.. but i'm sure you could find some on google if you try looking for them.. i don't know of any tutorials coz i've never really looked at any :/.. so i can't help you myself with that..

[d.o.u.g].. don't listen to remote his just grumpy :p.. your doing a fine job.. i can see what you want.. (i think).. you probably agree with Remote somewhat and with me too somewhat but i'm sure you like it the way your doing it.. and i can see your into making background.. not sure if you wanna develop those foreground skillz.. but i'm sure the site will look good anyways.. clean and fresh :D..

[d.o.u.g]
February 1st, 2002, 18:19
here's the less messy menu version without the 1px border and some other changes...
and i put a link next to the menu called "alternate version" so you can compare with the original version. yeah, the alternate version is the original one. :p
so here's the link again: http://planeta.terra.com.br/lazer/tmr01/

any other suggestions?

and mesman00, i had some links in a topic, don't remember the name... one of them was http://www.photoshopcafe.com the other i don't remember. :D and i have been using photoshop, to try to do something other than those text effects (like drop shadows...) for only 3/4 months, so i'm don't have much experience. :D

Remote
February 2nd, 2002, 02:19
It is looking good, especially the new menu, and considering the little photoshop experince you have it is a really good design. The new version is a lot better, the menu fits much nicer now since it was connected to the logo, it gives it a sense of completion. And as RatTrap said do not take our word for it, all we can give you is feedback. How the design turns out is your desicion.

Martin
February 2nd, 2002, 03:18
It's better, but I still think that the white background kills the eyes. Bright red on plain white? I'm not too sure. Some nice background work of the site and it would look sweet though. :)

RatTrap
February 2nd, 2002, 05:28
sudgestion.. try a 50% visible red pentagon grid.. if you know what i mean.. might look real nice on that as a BG :)..

Eddy
February 2nd, 2002, 06:55
or try a more opaque red background by around 50% and you can even make it look like graph paper :-D that would look nice :D

Hacktarux

I used the same font size in all section headers. It may look bigger because there are more "h"s and "t"s together. or something like that, if know what i mean.
