Cooliscool, inifinity-dc may have been insulting but then what abt HeadShotter? He totally insulted the BEST DC release group ever. I'm not into warez so don't start waving the red flag at me just yet. Without hacker crew like Dextrose and Echelon I think DC emulation would be quite a bit further back in terms of development. It all basically started with understanding DC GD-ROM format and then exploded from there........
Secondly unless you have a GDROM in your PC (I had a DC dev kit for a while neener neener :P ) I fail to see how you'll avoid Echelon's releases....LOL. So instead of hammering other users for posting opinions backed up by facts, why not just ignore them?
To be honest, Headshotter's comment was ignorant and only serves to show that he is just 'another user' who reads web reviews of warez product. I would think he would be more likely to warez the DC to death than a true fan like myself or infinity-dc ( and, no, I have no idea who infinity-dc is, nor am I his friend, I'm just a guy with another opinion)
Cheers
Mezkal
I agree that Echelon is an awesome group of people and without their efforts, dreamcast emulation probably wouldn't exist. But calling someone a dumbass over their opinion is something totally different. Infinity-dc could have simply stated (as you did) Echelon's work without adding the "dumbass" part. Anyway, lets not make it a big issue. Echelon f'ing kicks ass, and infinity-dc doesn't need to call people names. :P

two points
1. Zelda Windwaker can suck my stinky nutsaq - Why? Coz it was quite possibly THE worst game I've ever played - even worse than Viewtiful Joe (and it seems another stinky sequel will follow - GC owners scare me :P) and All the Bond games combined (excepting of course Goldeneye and Everything or Nothing)
2. Cooliscool - AGREED :)

Btw, regular CD drives can read DC disks. Theres a not so well known method using a fake TOC to trick the drive, then hotswapping to then DC disk. The tutorial is out there somewhere, and you can rip original games using it.

I am very impressed with Chankast and it will be a fantastic EMulator one day but for now..
it seem no matter what Compat list you are going to do it isnt going to be correct for others...
what one says is compat isnt for someone else, what you say is fully playable, plays a bit and crashes for me...
also it seems to be missing important info on what works and what dont as in image format and if you needed to make it self boot.
I have given up trying now as i get more and more Pee'd off of reading "This Works" to find i have a crash fest :)
cant wait to the emu progresses better and i might be able to really enjoy it.

Rival Schools 2 Project Justice: Boots up and loads elchelon intro then black screen
Jeffma Fighting Pack (MVSC2, CVSS2, SFA3): Doesnt boot
Jeffma Shooter Pack: Boots and goes into web browser to select game but when a game is picked to load the screen goe black
Super Speed Racing: Boots then goes to white screen
Metal Slug 2 (Neo Geo CD Emulator): Boots then got to black screen

dino crisis will boot up and play the video after you choose your game unfortunately when the first mission actually starts it crashes.
to make it boot i used the program from here http://www.intergate.com/~bigjoeroy/imginfo.exe
and opened the dino crisis image
check the vga box
save
now right click the dino crisis image file and open it with the program that made it (ie nrg open with nero burning rom, cdi open with discjuggler) or you can open the program that created it and choose burn image. and burn the image to a cdr . when its done you can play on chanka from the cd or you can make another image from the cd. you cant just use the modified image or you will (most times) get the io control error.
this also works for cool cool toon. and probably several other that get the av cable error.
hope it helps some of you.

Patched Chu Chu Rocket to selfboot. It works but is not playable.
There's no music (CDDA) Menu's are hard to navigate. Once you get in game, there is nothing on the playing field. The intersting thing is that it's not just a clipping issue with the background hiding stuff. As soon as you tell it to run the level, you win because there are no mice! Very intersting error :)

Actually, as i stated in the patching ur VGA games thread, you can use that modified images. Let me find a quote from it.
I just got soul calibur to work. No burning, nothing. Use the app found here -> http://www.intergate.com/~bigjoeroy/imginfo.exe and make sure you check VGA box after you open your ISO/CDI/NRG/whatever. Then, download THIS version of Daemon tools -> http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php?mode=Download&id=27 and install it. After you check VGA in that app, load the game to Daemon's virtual drive and check all the emulation options (like safedisc, etc). No iocontrol errors, and no vga error. It goes right ingame :D

I checked up on this earlier, the menu corruptions are confirmed on both versions, but on mine the levels start fine, its just the in game graphics have transparency and a few other problems the make it quite hard to play (i.e directional arrows not appearing for a second or two after being placed, regardless of framerate, plus some other minor errors)

Sultan I would recommend that you try changing your region first (either by hexediting the DC BIOS ) or by using the convinient Chankast Utils interface (but DO NOT EVER run speedpig) available in the Sticky threads here. I noticed that when I switched to NTSC/US my copy of SC ran MUCH smoother with far fewer errors on screen. I think that Chankasts emulated framebuffer and consequent refresh rate/pixel redraw can be affected by this region setting. IE NTSC/JP/US - 60Frames/sec PAL/EU/AU - 50Frames/sec. Maybe I'm way off here but my results seem to match my theory. (Don't they all?! LOL)

Other than that, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 , project justice, and soul calibur all play fast and smooth till the end with no crashes. probably wanna use the old gfx version with mvc2 cuz I did get slow-downs during gameplay....

Ikaruga : works at about 35 to 40 FPS, major slowdown when levels end, minor graphical glitches in the menus, there are also two bars showing on the sides when ingame that shouldn't be there.
Capcom vs SNK 2 : 35 to 40 FPS, although there's a rotating level that was much slower (about 25 FPS on average). Graphical glitches on the sprites.
I'm running an AMD XP 2600+ with 512MB DDR and a Radeon 9600.
For me, Capcom v/s SNK 2 runs almost perfect (50 - 60 fps), slow down is in the rotating level (40 fps).

-Guilty Gear X lost it's layer glitches and gained some speed (still a tiny bit slow)
-Puzzle fighter,psyvariar2 and Ikaruga are playable with a joypad
- VF3TB and SoulCalibur now work but are a bit slow (even on my P4 3GHz 1GB ATI 9800)
And everything is far more stable :)

It's cool that Soul Caliber works now, but is the character select screen totally black for anybody else? I have to blindly pick a character but it works great in-game.
it's black for me too, but i can't even pick a character, it just goes black and hangs. i tried patching the image with ipbin4win, imginfo, selfboot batch file, tried running it from both of my cd drives, tried using 2 different cd-rws, tried mounting the image with daemon tools 3.29, daemon tools 3.43, alcohol %120 1.9.2, all with and without emulation options turned on, tried all versions of chankast, but nothing helped, it just goes black and hangs. oh well, must be something with my karma :)
nevertheless, i just love this emulator and i'm so happy that this is happening! :bouncy:
grrrreat job, guys!

actually, that sounds a good idea mate, but quite a few rules would need to be added to it to stop spoofing or the same game added twice, that could be hard work too.... but its up to you :)

Problem with that though is what works for some dont work for others Marty.
what would be good would be to know the actual file that works and what dont etc.

well what you could do is have say a poll thing within a game if its already added, so you got 3 options
Works For x people
Patially Works for x People
Doesnt Work for x people
and have a comments thing at the bottom, so people can say what problems they had.

Don't know if I can agree with you there. For one thing anyone can make a disc image. So file tracking could be kinda redundant and overly annoying. The reality is that all it comes down too is knowing the GAME the REGION and its RELEASE (with possibly some extra info such as "Z-Write ON" etc. Some ripped games will run OK, some won't, due to the rip doing things that the emu can't track or emulate yet. Carrier, for example, was a DC launch title and it used the same engine as Blue Stinker (:P) . BS Loads, Carrier IO's out (yes for me too). I would say that's the rip myself because it was one of the first and probably a bit a dodgy kludge. Just an edjucated guess going on here. If so, then possibly another rip needs to be found or a fresh one needs to be made.

While playing Resident Evil Code: Veronica I noticed that sometimes the sound gets disabled, and you have to restart the emu to get it back on. Usually you get only the music at first, with no footsteps, zombies sound or voices, and in the next room you enter everything is muted. To regain sound you have to save, exit, start again and load.

Well, I noticed something weird (or not so weird), if you run SOUL CALIBUR from an actual CD, the framerate drops considerably, no matter how you over or underclock the SH4. When playing SC from an IMAGE mounted on a virtual drive (latest daemon-tools for me), I get 45/50 fps, while from the CD I get 29/40 fps.
Anyone else has found this with SOUL CALIBUR, or other game?

Look, I'm not trying to be insulting, but what does your comment add to the information here? If Freeman pointed out the fact that he gets extra fps (as I do) using a CD-Emulation layer such as Daemon-Tools then he did. Oh and I wasn't running from a REAL CD either. So I can back up his point of view.
The overhead in buffering a file from the HDD as opposed to a CD (which is 100x slower) is going to have less of an impact on the machine overall which in turn means more CPU power for the gfx and sound elements of the Chankast emulation engine.
If you're not going to add anything to conversation then why not just read instead of posting nonsense!
EDIT : AKS, the point of my post is to show the difference between trying to INFORM people as opposed to INSULTING them. You obviously feel that everyone should be at the same level of knowledge as you purport to be. Experience shows me that arrogance generally reflects the need to compensate. Godzilla Generations and Godzilla Maximum Impact both work great. Maken X also works. Luckily I figured out how to make it self boot without having to burn it...You need a 90 minute cd to burn it...LOL...No stores in my area even sell those...They only sell 80 minute ones. I was able to get Sega Extreme Sports to load, but it has sound, and no picture...Hopefully the reason the graphics aren't displaying can be figured out soon enough...It is one of my absolute fave dc games. Anyone try to run 4 Wheel Thunder on the latest Chankast version...? I would love it if that game is supported. If anyone cares to see pictures of the games that I got working, just post for me to...And, I will reextract the games and take some snaps...:) Note, if you happen to download an iso that goes to the cd screen but says its self booting...Try using alcoholsoft to convert it to a clone cd image...then remounting the newly converted image...I've found in many cases, this is all it takes to get the games to run...In some other cases, you can make sure you use alcoholsoft instead of daemon...It is a bit weird...But, it almost seems like every single game has its own special protocol to run properly...It is just a matter of determining all of the tricks.

i've been on testing spree lately, so here's my whole list (i probably have some posted before, some may have changed cause i found some bugs)
Ikaruga --> no problems found, except that it's missing the black stuff at the side
StuntGP --> the screen where you buy parts for your car is totally messed up
Silentscope --> sniper not usable
Virtuastriker 2 --> music hangs and grass is missing in the intro movie, no other problems found
Sonic Adventure 2 --> sometimes the screen turns black for a sec, can't see the shadow of king boom boo (knuckles boss)
Crazytaxi 2 --> some traffic is transparent
Dead or Alive 2 -->sometimes the eyes glitch, so you only see a red spot
Capcom vs SNK 2 --> some 2d glitches with the characters
Sega smashpack vol.1--> games run slow and virtua cop2 freezes chanka when you choose it
Tony hawk's pro skater 2 --> major glitches on the normal version, almost no glitches on the old gfx version
Jet grind radio --> big graffiti not avaible, somehow it doesn't get the data to do it
Namco museum --> menu works great, games run too fast, overcloack the cpu to a high number

I've only tested three games, and they all run fine, except for them all being slightly slow.
Jet Grind Radio - Has some texture errors on characters during two(?) challanges. Beat looks quite scary with Gums textures. o_o
Making your own graffitti dosn't work, it dosn't show up in-game. Otherwise, everything is fine, and it's just a little bit slow. I've played until the final stage.
Project Justice - The big guy has a face on his knee. Also scary. Other than that, it works perfectly, although in slowmotion.
Power Stone - Havn't tested it as much as the other two, but seems to work fine. Slow.

Game: Capcom vs SNK pro, (NTSC/JAP) (Eurasia)
Chankast version: Alpha v0.2a with Capcom Hack, AlphaTest ZWrite and ZWrite enabled.
Bios: American
Play tested: for about 10-20mins
Working: Seems to be working perfectly (except the character portrait while fighting is misplaced), have yet to see any graphical errors. Fps averages of 50-60. Sound seems to be perfect.
Game: Marvel vs Capcom 2 (NTSC/USA)
Chankast version: Alpha v0.2a with Capcom Hack, AlphaTest ZWrite and ZWrite enabled.
Bios: American
Play tested: 5-10mins
Working: Seems to be working perfectly, sound gets muffled a little but that can be easily fixed with pressing start or pausing and un-pausing the game. Fps averages of 45-55. Previously known that this game crashes at the end of or before the 4th match.
Game: Street Fighter 3 3rd strike (NTSC/USA?)
Chankast version: Alpha v0.2a with Capcom Hack, AlphaTest ZWrite and ZWrite enabled.
Bios: PAL (Spanish)
Play tested: 5 hours straight
Working: to me this is nearly Dreamcast perfect, slight graphical errors on intro and also after extensive game play. Sound does cut out sometimes but as with previous game a pause and un-pause seems to fix the problem. Fps averages of 55-62
Game: Dead or Alive 2 (NTSC/USA)
Chankast version: Alpha v0.2a with Capcom Hack, AlphaTest ZWrite and ZWrite enabled.
Bios: American
Play tested: 15-20mins
Working: work fine to an extent, nice bounce but that what the game is all about. Sounds working fine but cuts out in their little story. The game crashes for me once I complete it but the save is made so tis is kool.Fps averages of 20-27
ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CHECK WHAT BIOS (region) YOU ARE USING AS SOME CAN MAKE A CRITICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PLAYABLE AND A NON-PLAYABLE (not booting) GAME

skies of arcadia - runs at a stable 25 frames, some graphics glitches in some areas, if you press A to go to menu, and return to game it will crash.
you can't get past about the half hour mark, once you get to control the ship its real glitchy, and one random battle in the sky will cause it to crash to a black screen. (shall have to try again, may have been random crash, but i doubt it!). still, its very impressive and i shall be looking forward to the next chanka update and hope for some more stablility! =]
this version was tried on the chanka 0.2 alpha version.

Update needed on PSO ver 2, seems you have to have Zwrites and Alpha Z Writes on for best performance, seems to sort out what should be in front and what shouldnt be, altho you occasionally get solid blue circles occasionally, its suppose to be lens flare. But still, i think that can be excused for use of the menu :P

The game boots, but there's no sound (except a very disturbing beep occasionally on the first screen before selecting game) and it's very slow, 23fps on my system. Graphics looks ok with the both zwrite and alpha z-select.

Maken X works absolutely perfectly on an ATI video card...But, it is unfortunately, quite unplayable on a Geforce card...Being that I have both an ATI and Geforce, it is easy for me to notice the differences between the two...Generally, games with clipping issues, work much better and more effectively on an ATI...

someone with games and a nvidia graphics card let me know how it works, i have a
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
..*wonders if anything will work with card*...
Dreamer, I had (still have but no longer use) a Geforce4 Ti 4200 AGP4X and it worked with Chankast fine. I would engcourage you to install a more recent driver - 61.36 is lates WHQL'd version. Also look out for 3D-Analyze - you can tweak settings to make Chankast use it as a Radeon 9600 if need be.
Cheers,
Mezkal
PS : I declined replying to that post coz I felt any further discussion was unnecessary. Yes I have strong views on Emulation and Piracy but that does, and yes I certainly may go off at times (due to frustration, not a lack of composure I can assure you) but that not discount the validity of my point of view.

You can make Chankask use a Ti4200 as a Radeon 9600?!?
Am I missing something here?

Yes 3d-Analize is a program that can do that
You can even make a application think thatr you have a Ati radeon 9800 pro :)

few bugs for shenmue:
-no backround pictures during ryo's dreams.
-Ryo is transparent the day, but normal the night(!)
-the 2D arcade games makes Chankast crash
-can't hear any music just noise.
-sometime textures are not in the right place...
except that Shenmue is still Shenmue...and that's amazing

Too bad both games suck much ass :P Oratorio Tangram had about as much to do with the arcade version of VirtuaOn 2 as Pacman's Adventures in Time relates to the original Pacman game. not..much... As far as I know Yu also didn't have a hand in the DC version of VF 3 TB. If I'm wrong and he did, would someone please explain exactly what drugs he was on at the time. Must've been E. Coz the next morning he must've looked at the screen and said "I...loved....that?!"

Actually it looks like the Z- Buffering is wrong. The HUD is Behind the horizon. Try playing with the Z-Write and AlphaTest Z-Write settings in the Vide section of the Options menu.

Hm. I tried this weird little game. Works, but when u get to the game, everythings hidden under the grass. So, u cant see the Golem or the king, or anything for that matter. I'd say its pretty unplayable at the moment.

I tried the Jeffma KOF 3 in 1 pack. This is as far as i got. I'd get a msg after clicking anything, and itd take me to that dreampassport window where it'd try to make a save. I noticed that on a memorycard that had stuff on it, it wouldnt create the save. I tried it on a new memorycard with nothing on it, and it created the file PASSPORT.P00. But even after it was able to create the file, i still kept getting to that screen everytime i clicked a game or "Special Mode". So for now, its unplayable, unless someone figures out something for the dreampassport.

Sorry about the double post. I wont do that again, cuz i figure, if im gonna add a couple games at a time, might as well make one post. Also, i'm gonna make the images a bit crappier to not take up so much space =P. Anyways,
Quick notes:
Quiz Oh! My Goddess -> Quiz Ah! My Goddess
Gundamn Battle Online -> Gundam Battle Online
.1 -> .2a
Elemental gimmick gear (e.g.g.) still gets the black screen
Metal Slug 2 NeoGeoCD emu thing, still boots with black screen.
Yu Suzuki Game Works Still Hangs after selecting a game.
Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves doesn't work, but i think thats because of the Echelon intro :plain: My bet is all games with echelon intros are screwed until someone finds a fix. Because i also tried my copy of Bomberman Online, and it too has the echelon screen, and wont go past it. Someone should make a note of that if it hasn't already been made (sorry, cant go through 33 pages, ain't happenin. I'm only going on the list on page one :P )
New Games:
Bounty Hunter Sarah: Holy Mountain no Teiou (J) works. Even w/o the capcom hack. Minor sound glitches. Playable if u know japanese =P. Its just a fancy read and picture show.
Card Captor Sakura: Tomoyo no Video Taisakusen (J) crashes emu
Dance Dance Revolution: Club Mix doesn't quite work. First off, u need to switch it to NTSC or else u'll get the AV not supported message. Then it boots up squished, and freezes after the first 2 screens or so.
Gundam Side Story: 0079 Premium Disc (J) works, but everytime i get to the memory card screen, it shows that message, and i dont know what its all about. I think u may need a Japanese save of the non-premium disc? I really dont know, but i can't get past it myself. If someone can get it runnin, please spill the beans on how to get it to work, cuz i even get this on my DC!
Well, thats it for tonight, Imma watch some spidey 2 and hit the sack ya'll. I'll sift through my stack of games tommorrow and get some more updates. Night all

well i have a bit of an odd one here. my source said the game name was take no marine 2, its a japanese game. i have yet to find any info on it. but it works pretty much perfectly(from what i can tell.)
ok , the game is tako no marine 2. its a newer dreamcast game , it came out in 2002. its a pretty cute puzzle game.
you know what i dont understand, most every japanese game is (of course) written in japanese. but when the intro video is over they say in english "press start" or they have the buttons a,b etc.
CrazyYatta
July 2nd, 2004, 11:48
Well, i dont know much about japanese, but im pretty damn sure there aint a character for ever letter in OUR alphabet. I know there is one for a, but that aint the point. Have you taken a look at a japanese controller recently? Ya, its the same as ours! lol. It says start, and a b x and y, So why would the game say anything different? I mean, ya, SOME games say start in japanese, but still, theirs no real reason to, cuz the damn button is labeled on the controller. Besides that, japanese arent complete idiots, im sure most of them understand a couple basic words in english (especially the ones that play games since, like u said, most em say things like "press start"). I mean, hey, i think we all know how to say thank you in japanese. I dunno, im rambling now. Sorry, just had something to think about for a second there =P

start using decaf. I wasnt putting them down or anything. and no i havent recently looked at to many japanese controllers, been a little busy living. actually that is even more bewildering that their controllers would be the same as outs. i mean most of the video game companies home facilities are in japan. and even if they didnt know a word of english it wouldnt make them complete idiots.
take your ridlin and go to bed now. lol, just kidding.

Gez..That last post wasn't meant to be mean or anything. I never thought I'd spark a flame with a simple thought. And after saying all that, u end in "just kidding"? You know, it woulda hurt less if u just took that little piece out, cuz damn, u sure spat in my face with that one. :plain: What a lovely welcome to the community. Anyways...ya, now that thats over with, I felt like checkin a couple games out.
.1 -> .2a
Kiss psycho circus still doesnt work.
Musapey's Choko Marker still doesnt work.
New Games
Ducati World Racing Challenge doesn't get passed the SEGA screen.
Kiteretsu Boys Gangagan (J) can only get the buddhist lookin guy. Like seaman, requires mic. Silly game where u shout japanese obscenities at monsters to defeat them, or something of the sort
Treasure Strike (J) Works Great. Need to use NTSC Cable type. Only issue is that some menus aren't visible. I think theyre behind the bg, instead of infront =P. All that set aside, the game works ok.
Whats Shenmue? BETA (J) Works Great. Only issues are in the mini game, where your job is to search for the Prez of SEGA (Now dead i belive). The issue is that Ryu is see through, and has no eyes. kinda creepy :paperbag: , but still playable. The Explaination potion of the game works fine tho.
