View Full Version : New ads on EmuTalk

Since our current main advertiser (Google) decided to change their policy on April 1st, our earnings dropped like crazy (less than 1/4 of our old earnings in fact) so I went looking for another advertiser. We'll still mainly run Google ads as you will notice, but on EmuTalk we're trying a different styled ad that pays quite a bit better than regular 468x60 banners. We're also running this type of ad on Emulation64 just below the top news post.

The other alternative is popups, but I don't want to bring those back unless it's really bad.

Comments are welcome, as always, but this was mainly to inform you of the new changes. :)

I actually noticed this advert earlier, it's pretty well done actually. Not irritating and at least it's relevant. Hopefully there may even be some click thru sales or something too :)

That new ad is very big  , it sometimes screws the forum index layout O.o The emutalk logo is on the left side instead of the top O.o

Yeah, it's not too bad. :) The problem is, regular 468x60 banners hardly pay anything anymore because people have seen them for years and years and have become blind to them, and as I mentioned, I don't want to go the popup route again so we'll try this for a while. It's just a matter of surviving.

H3ad5h0tter: I have not noticed it screwing up the site design, please attach a screenshot if you see it happening again.

I think its ok. IŽll take big banners instead of popups. But Martin, cant you change the Smilie Window at last so that us Firefox users can use them again?

Talas, they already work in Firefox :) You have to wait for the page to load fully before you can use them though.

Yeah, it's big all right. It certainly gets noticed.

On a related note (Emutalk's revenue stream), where is the donate button? I haven't seen it for months.

That ad scared the shit out of me, but it's alright if you can get money with it :P

Well, it's not a matter of people liking or disliking, it's a matter of surviving. Better than popups at least, in my opinion. :) These ads pay about 4x better than regular ads, and probably a bit less than popups.

I don't find the ads to be that big, but I run in 1280x1024, could be why.

I run 1024x768 and it's really no hazzle, perhaps a new logo or a resize of the current one could fool the eyes and make it look smaller?

Also keep in mind that these ads not only help EmuTalk and Emu64 staying alive but a lot of others sites that are part of the whole network. Without the ad revenue a lot of good sites will be gone .. so if you see something in an ad you like then feel free to check it out and at the same time help support the network. :)

Very true Keith, well put. Heh yeah this is the original logo, maybe it's just a wee bit too big. ;)

Opinions?
