Speed issues with Blast corps

The game runs way too fast when I play on 640X480. When I select a higher screen resolution the game (seems) to run at normal speed but the sound is stuttering and that's really annoying.
Can anyone help me here? It's hard to control the vehicles if it runs that fast but otherwise the sound is not good.
