vba joypad help

i have a kiky x-series playstation to usb hookup to use a playstation controller on a computer. I have used it successfully with the snes9x emulator, but cannot get the visualboy advance to even recognize it.
Also, when the usb cable is hooked into the system, and i start vba, it doesnt even load, the process is running in the taskmanager, but it wont open. does anyone have any help or recomendations, id rather not buy another controller just for the vba. Thanks.

so is it that no one here uses vba? or no one has ever used a controller with vba? someone must have something to say.
