This seems to be a serious problem all around Win98 with various images. It happens on my PC and my friends PC both running 98.

It is accompanied by some other errors:

No "ticks" next to the emulation options in the menu.
"Open" dialog does not come up.

Should probably be looked at.... you know there is a big problem when Wine runs software more accurately than the real thing...

It happens with me too... I am unable to run the emu when I have a GCM file in the directory, as the program crashes imediatly. And again, I use Win98 and DirectX9.0b. (Athlon 1.4, 512Mb, GF Ti4200)

windows9x is obsolete now, it's pretty unstable, and win 2000 is far superior being fast and very stable, sorry to start a flame war, but i'm sure even the authors agree with me

Disagree. Windows 98 SE has worked well for me and there in some cases with
PCs I built, Windows XP was more unstable:

Windows XP Setup locking up at "Setup is starting Windows" when a GeForce2 MX video card is installed. I'm required to put in a non-GeForce2 MX video card to get Windows XP to continue the Windows XP installation process.

The dreaded infinite loop crashing problem with Windows XP, even when I can't find what the cause is, come on, Microsoft!!

Windows XP requires more RAM for itself than Windows 98 SE.

-----------------------------------------------

Yes, I do like Windows 2000, but there are some kinks to work out still:

I can't get Need for Speed III to run at all under Windows 2000. If I attempt to run Need for Speed III under Windows 2000, Need for Speed III will bitch at me with the message telling me that it only runs with Windows 95 and Windows 98 and refuses to run.

Need for Speed III will run under Windows XP.

Microsoft says there's a bug that if you're using NTFS, if you defrag the HDD,
Windows 2000 may give you a file system corrupted error message or a file corrupted error message and run Chkdsk, even when no HDD data corruption occurred.

Come on, Microsoft. I'm not going to use FAT32 for a workaround :(.

Of course it is obsolete. But it works, it is fast, uses less resources and so far I haven't found a game that would not run on it. And it has a lot more compatibility with older Emus and games. Not to mention it costs me nothing to stay with Win98 :)

In another words, I am a lazy cheap guy who does not deserve any better. If the emu is not supposed to be Win98 compatible, unlucky me. I guess I'll stick to the real thing.

edit: not to mention my typing skills that does sucks.:p
