What's new

a$$ bakwudz n00bies

what is it with places like this and people going

"i need rom xxx and i cant find it, where is it?"

and the one that REALLY peeves me

"Why doesnt emu xxx run MY ONE STUPID GAME THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT!!"

if these people had the first clue what went into creating something with the sheer scope and power of an emulator... by gum, they'd have a heart attack!... ok enough ranting but i was annoyed:angry:

The problem is that many people do not know that there is a thing called the internet which cannot only be used for finding Emulation forums while looking for roms but also the actual ROMS themselves. Of course most of these people are rarely at their computer so they would expect the kind of treatment they receive in real life. In real life if you ask someone for something that is free for all they will give it to you. In real life if you ask someone why something of their's does not work they will tell you why not. In real life you can get status updates and you can see and hear the people to make sure that they havent vanished into air. Most people that post in such forums are not used to the concept that ROMS are illegal and will not be given out in public, just as you don't sell pirated games in real life. They also do not realize that they are one out of several hundred thousands of people who want THEIR games to be emulated. You cannot relate this to stupidity or low IQ seeing as how they are new to the whole process. If you have notices stating not to request roms not to ask, they will depend on the goodwill of people to let them in on all the fun that can be had.

OK take this example... a car mechanic say ( a reputable one ;)), they specialise in making cars work, sometimes some bits dont work... a car owner gets angry at that mechanic for it not working... when the mechanic has not gotten round to seeing the car, let alone fixing it... you could at least see why an apprentice mechanic would be angry at that, right?:) It just seems that every time i wonder on to a message board its all i see, tis the reason i avoided them for a while (a looooong loooooooong while)

I can understand the first one, I spent weeks trying to find a rom to try my Emulators, the internet kept sending me to TopXXX roms, they sent me to another site whose rom links took me to back to the same TopXXX roms.

I never found a site on their engines.

The second one, well............ they just don't understand why one game works and another doesn't, its a 64 on the PC right? They think all the games are basically the same, so if one works then they should all work. Well thats my view when I'm not thinking about the programming part.

I have a very good idea how the emulators work, I have had 5 years to figure out the PCs.

I just wish Nintendo would make an Emu, so (if they have any programmers with brains) they could make it perfect, without being restricted by programing law.

Or can you use the N64 source, and every part of its programming legally?

emulators = 100% legal
roms = illegal (unless you own the rom and dump it yourself)

requesting roms = we ban you

You have a point with newbies not fully comprehending why they can't request ROMs. That's why typically you'd warn them first, and then give them a second chance, and ban them if they persist.
