Ok, I was browsing The Underdogs website for the first time in awhile, and it came to my attention that they've added quite a lot of material (ie, games) lately, and I wonder about the legality of some of them.

Mainly, that they now have some SNES and PSX games available for download.

Now, we all know how assanine Nintendo is toward roms... so how long will it take before The Underdogs get a rather notable cease & desist?

They've been up for quite some time. I don't think any of the titles that I have seen could be considered big hitters. It'd be different however if they put a Mario game up for example, I'd expect Nintendo to pounce on that straight away.

Well, that's one argument that could be made.

I was only looking at games from Koei (specifically the Rot3K series).

But, nonetheless, Nintendo could easily step on them like a bug - who's to say that Nintendo won't turn around and release any of the games The Underdogs has on the GBA?

This is one of those cases where I think the "control" issue needs to be cleaned up when it comes to games & roms.
Does Nintendo get final say because the game was licensed to their system? Or does the third party maker get the say?

Anyways, the Underdogs site is bringing up another concern, as my virus scanner is going off occassionally now with something in my cache that the Underdogs website is giving me. *sigh*

Well, it seems Nintendo offs. like to call all the shots, even if a Nintendo-ported game is not written by Nintendo. :(

Not going to happen now after the new Copyright law was just passed -- see the "general emulation" forum.

Nintendo cares the most as it is their assets that are being hit. emulation wouldn't exist if they had that power to remove it all from the network because it is their console that is being interferred with. I know that Nintendo, Capcom, Square-Enix and Namco are the tope ones for squshing out people that put their stuff up for emulation

EDIT: I dont know much about Sega, Microsoft, and Sony since I dont see them in action.

Also I know Lucasarts has been secretly throwing in curves in their games since 1988, but eventually everyone gets copies of their secret codes

I think it is more up to the company, or persons involved with holding the original copyrights, as they have protected their game from being frauded by people in China that got these games dumped for emulation.
