Trotterwatch

Not exactly fast... pah (yeah I know you were talking about the game itself and not it's emulation).

Speed limiter off btw - game runs like Sonic the Hedgehog. Speed limiter on, and my system (the P4 one) thanks me profusely for allowing it to sleep a lot.

I'll post one shot, Karth can do more later if he wants.

Shadow does work in Banjo Tooie - Karth has just been messing about with settings etc and forget to change something back.

I'll check out Ridge Racer 64 now.

EDIT// Just checked out the Renegade track on Ridge Racer and didn't notice any slowdown, nor did I notice anything that could have been a framebuffer effect. Could you provide more details on the exact spot where slowdowns occur for you, a screenshot or something I could check.

Man Rice's plugin is really REALLY making some leaps and bounds. I have little doubt that it will be the best graphics plugin once released. Only hope Rice can reverse engineer some u codes to get world driver championship and co. working. That would be amazing.

Not perfect, the gold cards have no textures.

Also it's been a while but I seem to remember a snow effect or something like that over the level. I could be wrong though.

I rather enjoyed Bomberman 64's single player... I actually have a file that's at Cerberus (god damn frustrating boss) with every gold card up to that point, on Hard mode, with like an hour and a half on the timer. (for reference - one set of Custom parts requires that you beat Hard (i.e. the 'true' ending, with all 120 cards) in under... either 3 hours or 5 hours, can't remember which)

Not perfect, the gold cards have no textures.

I've never played the game before, so I didn't know that :) I'll mess around in the options to see if I can find anything that looks better.

There is snow on the zoomed out view of that level btw, not sure if it should be there when zoomed in.

BTW- do you have any pics of what the cards should look like? On the screen when they are revolving they do have some sort of gold shaded texture on them.

EDIT// Just checked Jabos D3D 1.5.1, which looks the best with this game - and the gold cards again look different using it - slightly more golden coloured with a shimmer effect.

Cruisi'n' USA works full speed here
Mario Tennis = Slightly improved in some ways, slightly worse in others
Mario Golf = works full speed here, and did for most part on my Athlon 900mhz

As for Namco Museum 64, when I first tried it, the animation was jerky. I then turned off fast texture in Rices plugin, result = perfect

Thanks for the reply. i know this is a moderately big list but these games have shown major and minor graphical and performance errors for me in the past. i have hypothesized that this occurs because of similar graphics routines and/or rendering methods and so i was wondering what their current status is now. and i wanna check my hypothesis.

those errors included everything from textures flickering to missing/incorrect graphics some have even crashed, (maybe becasue thay arent that popular). but most of these are all relatively decent games and worth playing at quick intervals and so playability is important- hence the request for gameplay shots and vi count.

also some of these games arent very popular--they are not Rare or Nintendo games-- so compatibility is always good to know.

again thanks for the reply.

Just a note on the HQ4x link. Over at zsnes, we got HQ3x working, and it took mucho optimizations to get it to run playably. I'm talking about 10/60 framerates on a SNES game on a 1.3 Ghz system. Just to warn you, heh.

EDIT: The other filter is not designed for 3d objects, it's designed for 2d textures. The example just happens to have placed those textures on a cube. Would be nice to see some filters used for 3d though, never really thought about that. Maybe interpolating blocky curves to smooth them out.

Sorry for going off topic, but I felt I had to address a few things. Delete this post as necessary.

i also think it's fascinating, so go ahead and inform us.

the message boards have seemed kind of strict lately (which is extra lame imho), and it's a little OT, but i think stuff like that is the future of emulation, since all games will be emulated perfectly eventually. (just look at zsnes, jnes, fce ultra and 1964) :)

probably the boards are getting strict because everybody is so anticipating 1964 (that's a funny sentence now, isn't it, in the year 2003?), so there's little touchy comments all over the place. personally i think rice and schibo rule, and can't wait myself, but it'll be here when it's done, and that's good enough for me. i know what long hard hours on a thankless project are like. :)

anyway, once 1.0 is done, and the source is released, i think texture enhancement and stuff is going to be the main bag for emu dev.

personally i think the vid quality of hq3x is totally worth it in zsnes. it looks beautiful. as monitors get bigger, and computers get even more powerful, the speed will be even less of an issue, and the importance of improving visual quality will be even more important.

i'm kind of bewildered that hq3x takes so much cpu power, though, actually, it seems like such a simple algorithm. could it be off loaded to the gpu through opengl or something? just wondering.

later!

(which is extra lame imho)

I don't think the board has gotten more strict (or lame), people are just fed up with the same, when is the emulator being released questions... again.. and again.

The question is answered once in a post, then the same person goes ahead and makes a thread on it. Then another person makes a comment to the effect, that the authors would be thick not to make a pre-release etc

So come on, cut us some slack here Pandamoan. :flowers:

I know everyone is excited and all that (i am too) but ppl like Trotterwatch have seen this now for almost 3 years.. so you can see why they get annoyed.

well you're absolutely right about that. however, i would conjecture that "when is x going to be out" questions are going to occur no matter what, as this is so exciting for so many people, and this is the "forum" for discussing all such topics.

i'd say just delete or close the dupe threads, and just ignore those n00bs who are stepping out of line and asking lame questions and the like.

it's just an internet forum, i think due to the present atmosphere some people might even be intimidated to post at all, which is kind of sad.

but then again it's just an internet forum so they can get over it.

This would be a lot faster, as the texture is filtered on first load and then cached.

You anticipated my revelation and subsequent question. I didn't think about the fact that each texture would not have to be filtered as it moved.

Body Harvest has a few wierd problems at the moment Scotty - with some programming genius it may still be fixed.

I could post a screenshot at the moment, and no one would be able to tell the game wasn't 100% :) but no one here has any intention of decieving. Heck I could post a video of it, and it'd still be tough to find the prob.

I heard there were problems, I just ask that they are fixed before 1964 is discontinued. Body Harvest hasnt worked well on any emulator I have used in the past, weird I thought it would be an easy game to emulate until I tried it for the first time, the lagging speed, and the fact that bridges dont appear to be crossable in N64 emulation (maybe its just my ROM doing this, its still the U ! version). The video isnt bad, as is the audio, its just a matter of the pagging speed that needs to be fixed.

Edit: why the heck dont I just pull out my n64 after my examinations are done???

The speed is just inconsistent, it goes too fast, but it also goes slow as well. I have observed in the past that the character you are playing also moves in a awkward speed, some plugins also have made the character look like hes walking backwards, (PS: trying going over bridges, at least in my version it looks really funny, thats the U ! version).
other than that, it is good to see that "Greece" pictures are coming out pretty good.

Not really the issue here :) the speed is consistent. Be it fast or be it slow, the speed doesn't fluctuate.

I of course am assuming you are using the 0.9.9 version, which is good. It shouldnt here when the new version is available, I doubt with my somewhat slower processor than yours that there will be speed issues.

Trotterwatch

I am using the very latest version (of course) and their are issues (not speed issues per se) - so don't bank on it being playable. However I am not saying it won't be fixed. Seems like this game is pretty difficult to emulate.

From what I hear almost all of the bugs have been solved, it goes fast, and the 2 new (Rice's Video, and Schibos audio) are great. There still isnt a release date (my personal feeling is now that they are working on language translations for the emulator that it should be soon, but then again Ive thought soon since October)

From what I hear ( im not a beta tester guys for those who dont know) it is basically the very little played games that still need to be weeded out (ie Body Harvest, yes Trotterwatch I cant think of any better example).

StAmAtIs

Hm, what XBOX port?

For those people who aren't aware, there are emulators that can run on a mod chipped XBOX like Megadrive/SMS/SNES/NES/GB/GBA/MAME/etc. This also includes N64 emulator ports which were created about 5 or 6 months ago and proved that N64 emulation was possible on a console. There were 2 created PJ64 and UltraHLE (renamed UltraXLE). PJ64 was the one that could emulate most of the games but some of them weren't playable due to speed and video glitches. UltraXLE emulated a fair amount of games and had just about perfect speed for most of the games that it emulated including Banjo Kazooie which was just about perfect to play.

The reason why I asked if there would be a 1964 version ported is because I don't think the authors of the 2 emulators that I mentioned are going to make another version. 1964 v1.0.0 for the XBOX would be sensational because of the near perfect speed and now a great video and sound plugin. If 1964 could be ported it would take the XBOX Emulation world by storm!

I admit it here. I have really asked that question a few times in a hidden matter, like asking about the beta testing and how its going(and when I saw problems on the hidden section of the forum of course I cant see it now), I have speculated about the new release of 1964 since I heard of its release on May 5th 2003, of course thats even before the beta testing began, but everyone on here knew it was coming sometime.

I "completed" DK64 with all 201 Golden Bananas (couldn't be arsed to kill King K. Rool for some reason though) about a month or so after release (when I bought it) on my real N64. It was very frustrating doing the super hard minigames towards the end of the game! Too bad I never saw the ending, I got Perfect Dark a little after when it was released so DK was kicked to the kerb!

So I'm not too fussed about playing the game! I just want to see how well it'll play with the emulator. Perhaps I'll go back to it when I've forgotten where the Golden Bananas are!

I'm guessing if a plugin had better blending or used shaders it would look alot better.

I dont think anyone wants to wait more than us at Emutalk, I admit I have very little patience but I am trying not to pull not asking to rush it to get it out sooner

Sorry if I was acting like I wanted to rush the project, all I ment was that it looks great so far.

you werent on the forums, however i tend to exaggerate with my partial telepathic abilities intact. I wouldnt worry basically everyone is being like this, even me.

Of course everyone on the beta testing team has done well, but the only thing that they got tired of is us in reality, they keep geting bombarded with when is it coming out??,can I start beta testing??, and how is the audio and video doing???? So Trotterwatch, Rice and Schibo in particular have really not liked it, and I dont think anyone would, I know I wouldnt tolerate it probably

Yeah, I have seen the other threads, but I wasn't asking for a release date, otherwise, I would have been flamed to hell for saying that, plus Im not like other people who have been whining for it like babies. The last thing I want to do is bug the authors and get banned.

Nasorean: It's still slow. Sadly, Frame Buffer is VERY hard to emulate.
I dunno about SS.

Thanks for the quick response i figured the frame buffer was still slow but it never hurts to ask and know for sure rather than assume and not know.

As you'll notice, there's no shots of the sun. It's still bjorked, and the lense flare does not work. I've got some beautiful Jabo's 1.51 shots with it working in 1964. I'll post if you want.

In the beginning of Majora's Mask, you'll see two fairies: Tatl and her younger brother (which I don't know the name of). Tatl is a light fairy and her brother is a dark one. Is this fairy properly emulated now? Maybe a screenshot of that is in place.

That's so awesome, it looks exactly how it's supposed to be. Thanks guys.

I see Conker screenshots are already requested. So I'll just request F-Zero X screenshots. I know there's at least one screenshot in this thread but I hope there could be some more posted. Are the colors of the vehicles right, the rest you can choose randomly.

Thanks again.

can you find a screenshot of the rupee colors on zelda oot and the glow of the chest when you find a big item, i have a geforce4 mx 400 agp 8x (using 4x) and with jabo d3d 1.5 i don`t see any glow and the rupees are messed up (red are orange)

Clements
December 30th, 2003, 00:24
You'll see the chest glow yellow with glN64() 0.41.

Green Rupee - 1 rupee
Blue Rupee - 5 rupees
Red Rupee - 20 rupees
Purple Rupee - 50 rupees
Silver Rupee - 100 rupees (MM only I think)
Gold Rupee - 200 rupees.

See how that correlates.

I've just tryed Star War Episode 1 Racer but I use Glide64 this time and it's rocks!!! :) However, I had some problem to install it since I have a Gforce4 :plain:. Well it working now :). There's just a little problem with the shadow. I also just wanted to said that the fact that we can use the mouse for the control is a nice addition (Nice work guy ;)). (Did u ever tryed the mouse in Episode 1 racers? I don't know how many time I killed myself because da mouse was at the end of the table  ).

Well, now I know why 1964 became so popular ;).

Yes I've tryed this out. For the missing graphic in the first person view, I'm using Glide64 to fix it but I got that shadow problem. So I have the choice between 2 possibiity : The shadow or the missing graphic. hmm...I think I'll take the shadow :P
