Ok, I know others have probably noted the graphics problems with this game.. But honestly, a game as good as this, and one of the -only- good RPGs on N64, it deserves much attention to solve the problems. The backgrounds you might not consider to be much, but when you're looking at a black background in important parts of the storyline, it becomes a clear annoyance and destroys the gameplay. Plus, the fact that your battles, too, are containing this annoyance as well. You really don't know how much you're missing until you play the game on the console.
If -anyone- has a solution to the graphics problems by some chance configuration, I'd like to know what it is. If that's not possible at the moment, I urge the next version, or atleast something, to be done to fix the issue. Also, it contains many annoying black lines that shouldn't be there, and the font in-game seems to be messed up as well. If you need screenshots, I'd be happy to post them.

If you have an nVidia card use glNintendo64(). The text is flawless almost, and there are no black lines on the beginning screens.
If you don't have an nVidia, use Jabo's but uncheck the force filtered rendering option. The text is now readable. As for the black backgrounds, it hasn't been solved yet, but people are interested in fixing it, I think.
Below are some shots of glNintendo64() 0.32 beta fixing the issues I mentioned:

Alright.. I downloaded that, and I -do- have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440, yet, when I attempt to play Ogre Battle with that graphics plug-in, I end up getting a framerate of about 2. My computer runs at 1.53 Ghz also, so I don't see it as my having a slow system.. Could you show me your settings, to see if they'll work? I might have something on that's screwing it up.

Hmm. Very odd, considering our systems are practically identical... Do you have the latest detonators (I recommend using signed ones or official)? Here are my settings, but somehow I don't think they will help you much:

Well, seems to refuse to work still. And yeah, our systems are nearly identical, although I have a 128 MB NVIDIA card ;\ I also have all the latest drivers for it. Hrm.. Unless it's one of the many other configurations, which it very well could be. I could have some of the other things goofed up and that could be creating an incompatibility between the plug-in and the emulator. I'd like to know your other settings, just in case that is the problem.

Try using 1964 0.8.5 and glNintendo64() to see if the problem is actually the plugin and not the emulator. You should make sure you have the latest PJ64 (which is 1.5 SP1). My other settings are the defaults which are:

Hrm, appears to be the plug-in.. It doesn't work with 1964 either.

Perhaps your OpenGL is borked somehow. If I were you, I'd test to see if TR64 Ogl is also slow. I'd test glNintendo64() with other games to see if its also slow. If it is, I'd reinstall the graphics card drivers. I easily reach fullspeed (70-120 with limiter off) Are you experiencing this even in the menus etc. at the start or at a specific point in the game?

TR64 Works quite fine at 55-60 FPS Average. Just seems that this one plug-in refuses to work for me. And yes, with that plugin, I experience slowdowns in the entire emulator, including tabs/pulldown menus.

Very odd indeed. Oh well, TR64 Ogl also works very well with Ogre Battle 64, fixing those two issues (text and black lines) as well, and not having different issues in other places. Just use that instead. I thought that glNintendo would work well though, as it does so on my system, but problems like this can always crop up.

Actually, TR64 has a bunch of missing sprites on my system. Know any way to correct that?

Which sprites do you mean (post a [jpeg] picture?) Maybe someone with a little bit more knowledge of this game (wasn't release in my region) can help you out a bit better. Maybe the plugin developers will see the pic and try to tackle the problem.

Well, I'm too lazy to post up a picture, but I can tell you where some of the problems are: At the Title Page, where you do New Game, etc, the little group at the bottom left shows up only half-way, which indicates their sprites are missing. Also, after pressing New Game, the scenimatic starts, yet shadows are replaced with white, which also indicates those sprites are missing. I assume this does the same the entire game, then, although I don't feel like testing that out.
