yltrahle 2064 crashes

New member
Hi,

I just downloaded UltraHLE 2064 (version 1.0.4), and it crashes when I try to run a ROM:

the program loads OK, and I have configured it to know the location of my .rom file, which appears with a `USA flag' icon in the list. When I click on the ROM, I get an error message (details are at the bottom).

I have configured `Ultra hle gxf plugin' for video plugin, no sound plug in, and no UltraHLE Controller Plugin yet (UltraHLE complains that I should get a controller plugin, but I don't think this is causing my problem...is it?)

I'm using Win98/128M RAM/PIII 8xxMHz.

I have a cheapo motherboard, though (from 1st International Computer - bet you haven't heard of them), and the motherboard software isn't great, so maybe that's the cause of the problem?

Please help. Thanks!

The UltraHLE error message was as follows:

ULTRAHLE caused an invalid page fault in
module ULTRAHLE.EXE at 0167:0042689c.

Finally I got the thing to work, by switching to the Direct3D plugin, rather than the glide one. The glide one doesn't work for me: I get `Memmap: VxD initialization

OpenGL works reasonably well, but it is far too slow.

And there is a big problem with using Dorect3D: the 3D graphics often don't come out right at all. FOr instance, running `Zelda: The Ocarina of Time', Link goes missing halfway through the opening sequence (ie, polygond are missing), and is incorrectly coloured when the game starts.

Is there any way to deal with this? Would it help to buy a 3D graphics card for my PC? Or a faster processor? I find that pj64 works a bit better than UltraHLE for Zelda: Majora's Mask (but with pj64, some of the bitmaps have the wrong colours).

The debug info associated to the glide failure is:

It's your video card.

It'd help us if you could tell us what your video card is.

Just right click anywhere (but on an icon) on your desktop. Select "properties", then settings.
The name of your video card adaptor should be mentioned here.

However, our Xengine D3D has issues and is most likely the most unstable amongst our Xengine Glide & OGL & D3D.

If the OGL one appears too slow, it can be either your video card or video card drivers.

You can still give some other video plugins a try (such as jabo's, Daedalus or others).

It says `VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601 Graphics Controller'. Do you think that my make of video card is causing glide to crash?

I guess that would explain the rendering glitches I've experienced with D3D.

I'll give them a try, and see what happens.

Is it worth buying a new video card?

Anyway, thanks very much for your help.

hehe, well, let's say that your Pc's advantage certainly doesn't lie in the video controller.

Glide won't work with your card. Only 3dfx cards can use glide, unless you're using a wrapper.

Read the manual provided with the 1.0.3 full installer version and stick to the recommended video plugins. Jabo's 1.5 should be fine enuff afaik.

However, in our case, it is worth buying a video card, even a cheap 2nd hand such as a Geforce 1 or 2.
