It should save... did you change any of the settings or anything?

The tree house pic in the menu is a known issue. You can solve it by selecting all tree frame buffer options on the second tab page in the gfx config.
Remember to untick "hide advanced settings" first, though. It isn't necessary, however, as it does not affect gameplay and it's slower.
